cross fit eating before and after - help

I can't really offer any help but I'm so impressed with your progress.... you've got me contemplating taking up crossfit. My biggest worry is my rickety knees. Is there a chance they'll make it worse or will they help it get better? Not to mention my utter lack of ability to do a push up, pull up, squat or lunge. Do they have a class for people who are that disfunctional?

keeping hydrated during very strenuous outdoor activities?

I make it a point to start hydrating an hour before exercise. It takes a bit of time but I don't have a problem doing it. I also like camelbaks when I hike or bicycle and I wear a Nathan belt with a water bottle holder when I run...now that I have a waist.

    first post op flying experience

Great NSV. That will be a great vacation for you and your wife. Enjoy the sunshine in your new self. The last time I flew I made double sure to get an aisle seat because I knew I'd be overhanging my armrest. When I boarded and found my seat there was a guy sitting in it. Apparently a man and wife bought tickets at the last minute that were not together. Before I ever boarded they had arranged with the stewardess to switch seats so I had to sit in the husbands old seat....which was right next to another 300+ lb guy. So here we were, the 2 biggest guys on the entire plane forced to sit side by side. Needless to say it was not comfortable and I avoided planes at all costs for years because of it. Now I'm ready though. Sorry for the long whiny story...just one of those really bad moments in time.

    Chia Seeds

Really they are too small to chew. I just drink them down.
  5. So the yo-yo dieters are disciplined? Why did they need to yo-yo diet in the first place? Was it because they are such savy dieticians? Sheesh another Johnny come lately showing up to the party months late and then passing a chicken **** generalized judgement on the masses without having the courage to direct it at anyone in particular.

Unfortunately there's not much being discussed in this subforum, but somehow this one thread really took off. There's just no telling when a thread is going to gain traction and roll. But really, being a non-believer is kinda like being a non-Eskimo. You don't sit around discussing the fact that you're not an Eskimo. But, you certainly could.

Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?

I know. That's my point. Do it man. You're going to do great. You just think you love running now....wait till you cross that finish line.

I'm calling you out Fiddleman. When is your 10K race? There's no question you could do it tomorrow so what's holding you back? You're going to love it. No training run can match that high of finishing the real deal with hundreds or thousands of people hanging out cheering for you.

    My wife is pissed!

Tell her if you keep the bigger clothes you're likely to grow back into them. I'm sure she'd rather have the skinny you than the big clothes.

    Bonk?

From what I've seen, read and experienced bonking is when your body runs out of glycogen (sugar) to burn as fuel and switches over to burning fat. The switch over in the middle of a hard exertion like exercise is not very efficient and your body sends you signals to stop what you're doing....basically it makes you feel very weak and shitty. That's what happens to runners and cyclists quite often but it can happen to anyone doing any kind of long sustained exercise and it is not pleasant. Interestingly, the more you work on burning fat for fuel instead of glycogen the less opportunity you have for this to happen. The body can get better at anything just by practicing it. I've been trying to keep my workouts in a fat burning zone for several months and have not bonked one time.

I am now a master farter!

I don't fart any more than usual but I did notice during the first six months or so that my farts had that extra special ingredient which made them doubly potent. Now either they have gone back to normal, or everyone else in the house has lost their sense of smell. One thing I know something is killing all our goldfish. I wonder if they're like parakeets.

    I'm exercising,....but....

Sweat isn't necessarily a requirement, and neither is doing sustained cardio. But if you aren't breathing heavy during the resistance training you're not using enough weight. You should have difficulty finishing the last set. If not, add more resistance, or add another set but it should still be difficult to finish it. Same with the exercise bike. Here's where your heart rate should definitely be up. You should be able to talk but not sing....that's the old saying. If your heart rate isn't up you need to increase the resistance, the speed, the duration or all 3. But the fact that you're exercising is great. Keep it up.
