Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?
Butterthebean replied to *Dean*'s topic in Fitness & Exercise
Believe it or not it actually gets better with time. I guess your body gets used to it. But I understand, it's annoying as hell in the beginning. -

I feel you.....I feel naked without a compression shirt on now under my outer shirt. I was buying Under Armour, but the knock off brands seem to work just as well for half the price. Helps keep things from bouncing quite so much. -

Booooooo hiiiiiiiissssssss.....down with treadmills. J/K. If that's what you got....use it. I started C25K back in September of last year. Today I ran 12.9 miles just because I could. I've got a half marathon coming up in 10 days....a Wounded Warrior benefit. Honestly, I'm so glad I took up running. Before this I couldn't run 100 yards without passing out. Even in high school football, I would puke if I had to run a 1/4 mile. Now that's not even a warm up. You can't imagine what that does to your overall confidence level, not just in running but in life. Now when people tell me I can't do something, I just snicker and think....well if I can run for 2-1/2 hours straight, I can do whatever. -

Getting through a stall (per Caspanelli)
Butterthebean replied to WeeWers's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You should consider changing your mindset on this. Stalls are not devastating or awful. They are part of the process. And they will effect you much less if you don't focus on the scale. I encourage everyone to invest $30 in an Omron body fat analyzer or some other similar bio impedance device. They give the true measure of what's going on with your body. My weight has not moved in 3 months but my body fat % continues to drop. And isn't that what's important? -

12 week Transformation challenge for vets
Butterthebean replied to Fiddleman's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I really like this challenge Fiddleman. I've got 2 more weeks till my next half so I've got to stick with my current training plan till then. But I do have a question or 2. Do I have to do the 12 day base camp? I feel like I'm way ahead of the exercise part of that. Also, 7-8 hours of sleep? Obviously whoever thought that up didn't work shift work. But I do need to work on getting in more sleep. I do like the notion of doing more HIIT and less steady state cardio, and I'm already trying to incorporate that into my plan. My workouts have been great, but my eating is slipping badly...my sweet tooth has flared it's ugly head. I think this challenge is exactly what I need to set me back on the path. -

Great job. You look terrific. -
After day 1 I didn't go back to the track for 2 weeks. I hated it. It was like being waterboarded while having both knees attacked by barracudas. But it definitely got easier and now I'm addicted. Running my second half marathon in 2 weeks.

how to reset your metabolism with excersize and food?
Butterthebean replied to leeann71's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Laura...sorry to hear about your friend. My mom came down with the same thing, and just like you say, it was extremely sudden. The day we found out she was positive for cancer, they were already suggesting hospice. My Mom was like "F*** that" because she felt fine. But that didn't last long at all. It was painful watching her go downhill so fast. Pancreatic cancer is nasty because by the time it starts showing symptoms in most people, it's so far advanced there's nothing that can be done. I am glad you got to say your goodbyes the way you did. -
Why couldn't they have prayed for me when I was eating all those pepperoni pizzas?

Man I hate to say it but I've been wrestling with this same dilemna for the last few weeks. I have really come to love long distance running but it wastes alot of muscle. The more I run the worse my strength to weight ratio is getting. I've got another half marathon coming up in 2 weeks and after that I'm gonna cool it for a while on long runs. Just in the last couple of months I've increased my weight lifting and HIIT runs, while decreasing the mid level mileage runs as they seem to be redundant. They are a good calorie burn but not much more. For now I'm doing Starting Strength again. Did it before and it's a great way to increase strength and power. I'm going to keep running but it's going to be more HIIT running and hill repeats, with maybe a twice monthly long run and that's it. No more junk mileage. I think I may have already told you but I discovered the local high school keeps a big tractor tire sitting outside for training. I've been going up there once or twice a week and flipping the tire strongman style as many times as I can. I flipped it 103 times today in just under 20 minutes, and I can safely say that is the most intense workout I've had in quite sometime. I looked up the tire online and it is a 280 pound tire. That really makes me wanna go out and find a heavier one to bring home, one that I can't flip 100 times. But still, incredible workout. I now know what my aorta tastes like.

What??? When did this start? And wouldn't it be appropriate for a male forum mod to be policing the man room rather than Susan? Just sayin.... Does this also mean that Christians can't post in the Atheist/Agnostics forum anymore? If so, thank the Godless heavens.

Great job on your loss and on your one year anniversary. And I've got a question for you....what's the small lump right at the base of your sternum cause after I lost my weight I realized I have that same thing. Never could see it before but now it bugs they hell out of me.

If you're not the gym type, what to do for exercise?
Butterthebean replied to takingbackcontrol's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You could buy a bicycle and take up cycling. Fun way to burn calories without feeling like it's a workout. You can always put a rack or basket on there and use it for a quick grocery run...kill 2 birds with one stone. Back in the day I used to ride my bike to subway for a couple of their chocolate chip cookies (yum) then ride back....burning off most of the cookie's calories. -
Interesting. I just add them to my Protein shakes after the shake is mixed...then put the whole thing in the freezer for 15-20 minutes so it gets nice and cold and the seeds gel. I don't like my seeds to gel longer than 20 minutes because then it gets too thick for my tastes.

Post workout for rebuilding muscle. Pre workout, your body will do better with simple carbs or just burn the fuel you already have on you.

Way to go. Being in a big crowd can certainly slow you down sometimes, but the payback is the extra adrenaline and motivation you get from the event atmosphere. Keep signing up and doing the distance. Doesn't matter if you walk or run. Just that you made it happen. -
That is incredible. From VSG to triathlete. Amazing accomplishment. Btw...did you swim in those Water shoes?

If you try the same workout twice and can't do it, it might not be a bad idea to back up to a previous day.....just to give your body a bit of extra rest. Then you'll blow right past that sticking point. -

Funny cause I won several pie eating contests. We all have our talents. Some of them just aren't terribly healthy.
