That's the beauty of the program....you can advance at your own pace. -

Even if it were true.....can you say SKINNY-FAT?

Ha.....my fault. But your fault I have Captain Crunch on the brain. If only they would sprinkle some Captain Crunch on the donuts instead of those nasty little pastel colored plastic sprinkly things (which I believe are secretly colored rabbit turds).

Great accomplishment. Watch out...it gets addictive.

The ironic thing is I'm allergic to Beans. I wish I was allergic to cupcakes.

Yeah, before surgery I was on the "drive thru" diet. Much quicker and easier than cooking. But the calories....sheesh.

There have been some studies that demonstrate the hormonal benefits to WLS. We all talk about the gherlin hormone but that's not the only hormone affected and hunger isn't the only thing affected by gherlin. I had a link to a great study where they basically did VSG on mice to study the hormonal effects and it was very interesting. Can't find it at the moment. Suffice it to say that there is something to the theory of "metabolic reset" immediately after WLS, doctors just aren't 100% sure how it works, but observational data keeps demonstrating it. For example, look how many diabetics are able to give up insulin treatments almost immediately after surgery....before the massive weight is lost and the blood glucose systems have had time to correct themselves.

Foods that make you poop...
Butterthebean replied to MK1986's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
And??? I don't care for artificial sweeteners in mass quantities but the amount in 1/2 cup of Fiber one is pretty minimal. And aspartame specifically has been proven over and over again to be safe despite being rigorously studied over and over again. -

5 days post op & I want REAL FOOD!
Butterthebean replied to DeeLiciousHairStylist's topic in Food and Nutrition
You probably could handle it, but following your docs advice is wise. If you're feeling that good, pretty soon you'll be eating all sorts of healthy foods. -
5 days post op & I want REAL FOOD!

Do you have a list from your doc or nut? My list allowed for grits and cream of wheat as soon as I went on full liquids. Those friggin grits were fantastic. I had 1 small bowl a day because otherwise I couldn't get in my protein, but that first week the bowl of grits was the highlight of my day. -
Coming up on 4 months since surgery, pics from Oct to now

You are friggin strong dude. My strength to weight ratio is awful, and got alot worse with my rapid weight loss....mostly because I didn't do enough weight training initially. I'm tying to correct that now. Keep it up big guy. You're doing great. -
How many vets are actually AT goal and staying there?
Butterthebean replied to clk's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Who here doesn't fear the regain? I'm within 10 pounds of my docs goal, but honestly I wouldn't mind getting down another 10 on top of that. But my weight loss pretty much stopped. Then I started doing a bunch of long running, training for half marathons, and eating all the carbs the running experts recommended. That was a mistake. First of all, my weight jumped up 10 pounds in a month, and that was while training for the half marathon. Second it made me physically ill during the race and didn't help me run any better than I did on low carbs. Well I've cut out the carbs and those extra pounds went away but no additional loss yet. In the last 2 months I've added in some serious weight training again and I see and feel the results...except on the scale which I'm beginning to fear is broken or stuck in some kind of a time warp. Every morning when I step on it I feel like I'm in a scene from the movie Groundhog Day cause no matter what I do that morning weigh in is still the same. I still log my food, still weigh and measure, still feel better abstaining rather than trying moderation on certain foods. I don't feel bad or guilty about food unless I eat sweets, which are my Achilles heel. Not only do they wake up my carb monster, but my sleeve apparently has no restriction against them. I cannot get full or satisfied eating anything with sugar. -
I get similar feelings all the time. I work with a bunch of donut bringing knuckleheads. Every other day someone stops and buys 2 huge boxes of donuts that sit and stare me in the face all day. Sad part is, they will eat less than half the donuts and the rest just sit there. HOW CAN THEY NOT EAT AVAILABLE, DEFENSELESS DONUTS??? It pains me. Sometimes I remain strong, other times I give in and eat a donut or 3. Sad part is, I have absolutely no donut restriction whatsoever. My sleeve is impervious to donuts. It sucks. I just have to be stronger. I try to stay busy on those days. Stay away from the office as much as possible. But the sad fact is these temptations will always be around and we just have to learn how to deal with them without making ourselves miserable. Easier said than done, but still a goal worth fighting for.

Can we have a Unisex Forum?!
Butterthebean replied to maharet111's topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
I frankly don't get the need for privacy. If I post something gender specific that's embarrassing...oh, say, a rash on my man parts.... I'm equally embarrassed for a bunch of strangers to read that regardless of what sex you are. I don't feel any more comfortable spilling my secrets just because women are or are not reading it. But hey, that's just me. If we are gonna start making forums private though, we need to make them all private. In other words, no pre-op people in the vets forum. I mean what's the difference? It's a public forum about VSG. Last I checked, they operated on our stomach not our genetalia. What's so secretive and embarrassing that the opposite sex can't read about it.....that is VSG related?
