My mission accomplished then.
-
So, before I get banned for something I said in another thread, I want to say that this first day of fasting has sucked big time. I'm right at 600 calories so I'm happy with that. I wasn't hungry at all for the first half of the day, then I had my first meal and all hell broke loose. Even though it was a typical meal for me, I was starving right after and stayed that way until my 2nd and last meal...then I was full. But, even though I was full, the carb cravings went bezerk at that point. I was dying for anything sweet. Still am frankly. I know it gets easier with each fast day, but let me just say this first one is enough to test a fellow.

Im addicted to weighing "/
Butterthebean replied to amytug's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Oh wow...this reminded me of a tshirt I used to have back in my trailer park days. It involved playing carnival and guessing of people's weights and sitting on faces....oh dear.....I'm gonna get banned soon. -

I may put my scale up on some blocks so I can burn some extra calories stepping up on it so many times. -
Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?
Butterthebean replied to *Dean*'s topic in Fitness & Exercise
There's no reason you should be sore Laura. The people who designed C25K knew what they were doing. Plus, even when it comes to weight lifting, studies have shown that DOMS has nothing to do with muscle adaptation or protein synthesis. In other words, you never need to be sore to improve. Being sore just means you did too much, or used some muscles way more than they are used to being used. -
Im addicted to weighing "/
Butterthebean replied to amytug's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I can't find the link at the moment, but I just read a great study that demonstrated that people who weighed daily were more likely to lose all their excess weight than people who weighed weekly or less. Even more interesting was that people who weighed multiple times per day...as many as 4-5....lost even more weight than people who only weighed once. Usually I only weigh once per day but I may have to go to 5 times a day so I can get these last 10 pounds off. -

The thing to take away from that video is that most of those people were doing something stupid right before the fit hit the shan. Darwin lives!!! -
I waited till after my 3 week checkup, and the doc gave me the ok. Even then I had to take it easy for a couple of weeks.

some big changes in my life... stress and maintaining
Butterthebean replied to CowgirlJane's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Sorry to hear about your break up. I agree that you seem to have a good head on your shoulders. Starting a new life at this point can be daunting, but it can also be an adventure. Good luck. Oh...and isn't it funny about the food? I, for one, never knew how much I depended on food to help me cope until I stopped doing it. It was like having a limb cut off. -

Because I'm a glutton for punishment, I've been doing week 1 of C25K again, but I've been sprinting the run intervals. Holy jeezuz it's hard. Feels good though to expand my lungs again. -

I'm doing my first fast today. I've done the 16:8 method before but this is my first attempt at 5:2. I'm half way through the day already and it's going well. Fish and bell peppers tonight will hold me over. Aiming for 600 calories. Question for you ladies. It's my understanding that the "500 calories for women" is based on 25% of the average TDEE, is that not correct? If so, as a sleever if you've been eating 1000 or 1200 calories per day, shouldn't your fast days be 25% of that? If not, should you eat closer to TDEE on non fast days? Just curious what your thoughts are, since most of the info out there is definitely not geared for sleevers.

Protein slowing weightloss down?
Butterthebean replied to gettinMeBack's topic in Food and Nutrition
No. Just curious where you heard this. Now there is such a thing as a protein sparing diet where you take in excessive protein in order to prevent catabolization of your muscle tissue. That's basically what we're trying to do here. Especially folks who are newly sleeved and can't take in very many calories. The more protein you consume, the less muscle will be catabolized. It's a good thing. Afterall the goal is to lose fat, not muscle. -
It's crazy the scams they will pull. As I said I rarely eat Protein Bars. Most of my fiber comes from veggies and fiber one. Now fiber one is a processed food, and I'm not big on those, but for this one thing I make an exception. Their fiber is the real deal. I have learned the hard way, it is real.
-
Unfortunately you're right....everything is debatable it seems, especially in regards to health and nutrition. I don't know if I've ever been in ketosis, but I do try to keep my carbs down, and I do subtract the fiber because it does not raise blood sugar levels the way non fibrous high GI carbs do. I'm highly sensitive and insulin resistent so I have to be careful about those starches and sugars.
-
Yeah but you were that way before you ate the chicken.
-
I can't remember the last time I had a Protein Bar. It's pretty rare for me. I bought a dozen Quest bars way back when. They may be out of date.
-
It's kinda like gravity....you may not believe in it...but it works just the same. In all honesty to everyone else, the Quest bars are not the tastiest and not the cheapest....but nutritionally they are about as good as it gets. Most of the rest are basically Protein infused candy bars. Not the way to get in your protein on a regular basis. I try to eat them only when I'm out longer than I thought I would be and need something. Protein Bars...even the quest bars....have been known to trigger carb cravings in some people. I don't ever recall anyone saying that lean turkey breast triggered their cravings for apple pie.

How is your water tasting now?
Butterthebean replied to Supersweetums's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I guess I'm lucky cause I have had no problem with water. I drink alot of it because I sweat alot at work and working out. Usually I take in between 128-140 oz per day, and yes I still log it. I love to add propel powder to my water, plus it helps with the electrolytes. I probably add 2-3 packets per day. -
Boredom...stress....or fatigue. All make me wanna eat when I shouldn't. It's so hard to fight the urge. Many times I'll go ahead and eat, but I'll stick to lean protein or a bag full of sweet peppers or some other high fibrous low cal veggie. I look at it like protein loading. I'd rather be full of protein or veggies than sit their and hope the cravings go away before I eat a donut.

Obesity's 'Disease' Status May Spur Surgeries, Drug Research
Butterthebean replied to Tim H.'s topic in Insurance & Financing
Good article. You just knew the comments were going to be shitty. But one comment made alot of sense....insurance already pays for all kinds of ailments brought on by lifestyle choice...skin cancer for sun bathers, knee surgeries for runners. Obesity has a similar cause and effect. The difference being, with obesity treatment such as WLS, not only do you save lives, but you save money in the long run by not having to treat diabetes, cardiovascular disease and so on. -
