Probably gonna tick some people off.......lol
Butterthebean replied to pjackson0523's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I agree with your overall message.... We shouldn't freak out over a little slip. But you have no clue how life is gonna be this time next year....or the year after that. Your assertation that your sleeve won't allow you to eat high sugar food in large quantities is just plain wrong. Embrace healthy eating habits now while it's still easy. Cause later on it gets a lot harder. -
Don't weigh so often because it will make you crazy. The ins and outs of body weight fluctuation are not as cut and dry as they seem. Many factors influence weight up and down and we only really control some of them. Weighing once a week or even once a month will save you these crazy ups and downs.

I am renewing my commitment in the new year with the 21 Day Sugar Detox.
Butterthebean replied to endless80's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My wife eats Paleo and she has had fantastic results. I like my dairy too much to go Paleo but I do believe it can serve you well. -
That could happen if you're burning fat. Have you taken any measurements lately?

Do you have a caloric tipping point?
Butterthebean replied to Fluffnomore's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Wow. Yeah that does seem extreme to me. If it takes you a year or longer to reach goal....600 calories is going to be tough. Is that for every one of his patients or just you? -
I aim for 20% of my calories being carbs....with almost none of them being starches. That's key. So for a 1000 calories per day that would be 50 grams......exactly what Sophiepants stated.

Whats the harm?
Butterthebean replied to LuminousLife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you're not hurting, I doubt you did much damage. But I'd be careful not to do this again until you're fully healed. Don't push your luck. It's sometimes easy in the beginning to forget that we have to learn new eating and drinking habits. Those old reflexes kick in and we down something we shouldn't....or too much or too fast. I know I tried to guzzle water too fast once or twice before I relearned not to ever do that again. Now's the time to focus. Let your body heal from the major surgery. -
11 months post op! before and after

You look stunning. Great work. -
For those of you who had a drain....
Butterthebean replied to Noor1969's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had 3 drains after my tummy tuck and my wife removed one of them at home on the couch. It's no big deal but it does feel weird. -
I think fish is one of the easiest proteins to digest. Much easier to get down than chicken, beef or pork. I'm 19 months post op and very rarely eat red eat or pork any more....I do eat alot of chicken but I prefer fish, shrimp or crab for my protein. It just sits much lighter and goes down easier.

Quest Bars are not what they say they are
Butterthebean replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Food and Nutrition
I think the quest bars are great for a 10 mile hike, or to stash in your car or desk in case you get caught too long without any real food. Where they become a problem IMO is when people eat them at home as a daily meal or snack. You're right, at home there are always better choices. -
Merry Xmas everyone. Took a great early morning trail run before opening presents. Honestly it was the best present I could have given myself....just being able to run and move and breathe. Mtd 85.3

*Gastric sleeve diet* (without surgery)
Butterthebean replied to Maccurdyerica's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
And it's not just that you're going into starvation mode. When we suddenly cut calories (which will mean we cut carbs as well) our bodies begin using up our stored glycogen reserves. It takes a tremendous amount of Water to metabolize these reserves, which is why that first 10-15 pounds can come off so quickly and easily. It's mostly water weight. Once it's gone, then the body has to metabolize fat which takes some real effort and time. So when people like the OP lose XX amount of pounds within just a few days, it's not fat that's being lost....not much of it. It's also partly why so many "normal" people think we can lose all our weight without WLS. Because they've lost that 10-15 pounds so easily many times. They don't realize they didn't lose much fat just water. They also don't realize that they couldn't have kept going so easily. -
January-February 2014 pullup challenge
Butterthebean replied to Fiddleman's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Yeah handstand push-ups will probably never be something I can do. Overhead presses absolutely kill me, and I've never had any real strength in it. I'm sure my technique could use some real help. At this point every time I try it on my own I end up with a shoulder injury. I saw that push up challenge and was planning on doing it as well on alternating days. I can do a few push-ups but would love to increase that number. I thought I was going to do it on the same day as the pull ups.....LOL....no way. I tried it last night after the pull ups and fell on my face after 2 push-ups. -
Agreed. My wife is quite liberal in her religious views. Choosing to invest in the overall message, rather than the dogma of it all. She sees the stories in the bible as parables.....not as actual written history.

January-February 2014 pullup challenge
Butterthebean replied to Fiddleman's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Did day one of the "training of descending" today....since I can't do any actual pull-ups. Wow I really feel it. -
Non believer here that married a baptist preacher's daughter. Honestly it's no conflict for us....although there are a few inlaws that do not understand.
-
Fred Flinstone made me fat. That fat bastard.....with a wife way hotter than he deserved....always peddling his sugary cereal. Not to mention cigarettes.

Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?
Butterthebean replied to *Dean*'s topic in Fitness & Exercise
Wow.....sign me up. That sounds great. -
I have the last pile of "what if" clothes on my closet floor. Just need to bag them up. Plus a whole bunch of ties for men with fat necks....or really long torsos. Too long for my neck now.

Eating more carbs can certainly help alleviate the symptoms, but so can just giving your body a few more days to get over the sugar addiction. When we suddenly cut carbs so drastically, there is a withdrawal period for many of us. The data comparing the effects of sugar (carbs) with the effects of addictive drugs like cocaine are available to read with a little google search. Once you detox, the energy and clarity often come back with a vengeance without adding back unhealthy foods. Not that I think all carbs are bad, but the ones that are causing this situation...the high glycemic carbs....yes they are bad, at least in the sense that they help make us fat, and most provide very little nutritional benefit.

So that was random....but great!!!!

It's like the giant spotlight no longer shines on the worst part...because it isn't there any more.....so now we see the next worst parts. That's how I feel since my TT. I just keep trying to refocus back to the new good parts. They look so good. I can't believe I no longer have a belly to wash under. I can live with those other itty bits.

How Does the Affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”) Affect You?
Butterthebean replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Alex...there is not an option in the poll for me. Because I do like it. But it does affect me negatively...my health care costs have gone up (but what else is new....they go up every year anyway). However, I'm willing to pay the extra costs because I know on the whole it's going to have a positive affect on the country.
