Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?
Butterthebean replied to *Dean*'s topic in Fitness & Exercise
My wife and I have had this issue about running together. When I started, she was an accomplished runner but had quit a few years earlier. She ran with me during c25k even though it was way too slow for her. At some point I surpassed her in distance but not in speed. So now we occasionally run together but it's an effort to compromise speed and distance. -

What was bizarre? You must elaborate.

Perfectly normal. I get ravenous after weight lifting. That's just those muscles asking for fuel. My best tip is take in a whey protein shake as soon as possible after lifting to help with recovery. Unlike cardio, if you're going to lift weights, you have to eat back some of the calories you burned working out. Otherwise, you're starving your muscles and defeating the purpose of strength training.

My TT is scheduled for 9/30. I'm having it done at Methodist hospital in Houston and it's going to cost $12,000.

"Map my ride" is a good phone app that will track your miles for you.

Sex after 9th day of surgery!

If one could burn 1000 calories having sex...I doubt there would be an obesity epidemic....but there might be a population explosion. -

I'm alone: I hate this.

I was going to say what Laura said....there have been those before you with leaks and other complications. The great majority of the time, they recover and go on to have a successful healthy post op life. It's difficult I'm sure, but you'll make it. And even though it doesn't feel like it right now, after you've made a full recovery you'll realize that the sleeve has extended your life and raised your quality of life in the long run. -

Best of luck with your race. -
Damn I didn't get the stick. Does it cost extra? Like the dumping option?

Not losing fast enough!
Butterthebean replied to rmma1000's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most people typically stall within the 3rd and 7th week. It's very common what you're going through. Don't worry too much about it. There's not much you can do except keep doing all the right things...it will resolve itself. -
How do you handle attention from the opposite sex now that you've been sleeved and are SUPER HOT?
Butterthebean replied to buplee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Flattered...anyone who is insulted is taking themselves a bit too seriously. My best advice is for every ounce of extra attention you get...give 2 ounces worth to your wife to keep her from worrying about it all. -

^^^^^ The voice of reason. People....burn those scales. They're a bunch of lying evil temptresses. They tease you and toy with your emotions by offering you easily attainable satisfaction...then they ****** all hope and joy from life. And ironically, they don't even begin to tell the whole story. -
Uh...hey.

Well, to liven things up. I'm finished C25K a while back, but I'm giving myself a new challenge starting tomorrow. 100 miles in 30 days. By far the most I've ever done....here goes. -
Look at those collar bones....you skinny thang. Keep it up, it will get easier as your bike skill improves. Pretty soon you're gonna be hooked.

You're going to blow all of it and more on skinny clothes.

To sleeve or Not to sleeve. That is the question.
Butterthebean replied to MinnesotaDreaming52's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm really not sure why they're asking for the 5lbs but honestly, if you're prepared to do this, you should be able to lose 5lbs and follow a plan for 3 months. I'm not saying you can't, but they may just be trying to screen you to see if you can. Their big fear is patients who think the surgery is a quick fix/do all. They want patients who will do their part of the work as well. So this may be some kind of screening process. I don't know, but if it is.....bite the bullet and do it. It will be easy and it will prepare you for life with the sleeve. -
The one thing I will add to the above is foam rolling. It is a wonderful way to stretch and release tight muscles before and after a workout. It's basically like a massage and stretching all rolled into one. I wouldn't hesitate to foam roll any areas that are giving you discomfort. It's uncomfortable at first...but over the course of a couple of weeks it really starts to feel good....like a self inflicted deep tissue massage.
