Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?
Butterthebean replied to *Dean*'s topic in Fitness & Exercise
Oh wow....the first night I did W1D1 I thought it was like being waterboarded. I never wanted to do it again and it took 2 weeks before I got up the nerve to go back. It was probably 2 more weeks of consistently doing it before I started to notice that I was slowly breathing just a bit easier....running a little easier....getting better. You will too...very soon. Keep at it. -

You're so close. You're gonna make it.

And you said you weren't an exerciser.... But look what you e done.
-
Nope....she had a group training run for her upcoming marathon. They ran like 15 miles or something ridiculous.

From this morning.

Hey folks. Did my fastest ever 10k this morning... 63 minutes. Plus I ran an additional 2.5 miles back and forth to the car.... That's how far away I had to park. So day 23 is 8.7 miles.... Which is 102 total. Thrilled to have made my goal with a week to keep adding to it. Thanks to all of y'all that joined in and inspired me. Keep pushing. We are all gonna make it.

I need help, feeling unsuccessful!
Butterthebean replied to KristieAtkinson's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
My wife has been trying to lose weight for 2 years by going ultra low calorie and doing tons of cardio and very light weights. She didn't lose a thing. She recently switched her diet to the paleo diet and started doing New Rules Of Weightlifting For Women....and she's dropped 2 pant sizes in about 2 months. She feels great and is taking it out in me regularly. -

Hey Kristie....first of all, not many people have been more successful than you. You have inspired me many times, and humor has always lifted me. And you could not look better even if the scale was showing a lower number. You have transformed yourself. I know you workout alot, and while I won't say you should raise calories or not, 2 weeks is not enough time to know if it is really what you need. As has been said, initially there will be a gain when attempting such an approach, especially for someone as far removed from the losing phase as you (and me too). But eventually your metabolism will (in theory) adjust properly and begin to function normally again. *Susan (the site moderator) has discussed this many times and how it worked for her. She was very open about the fact that it took a couple of months for the weight to start falling, but eventually it did. I will say this, I would definitely change things up if you want to see a change. Less cardio, more weight lifting, reexamine your Protein and Water intake. No starches. But also, take a good honest look at your goals. Are they about personal health or fitting into a number on an arbitrary BMI chart? Good luck my friend. You know I'm with you. -

This thread reminds me of a great thread started many months ago about how the closer to goal someone gets, the wider the shot on their picture. New people always had extreme close ups and people at goal tended to have full body pics. -

Well I must have been absent the day they taught that at fat guy school....cause I surprised myself with this selfie.....I was sweaty as hell from just running 5 miles and I was right in the middle of drinking from my camelbak (yep....a straw!). I told myself to delete that picture cause I'm pretty sure it made me look fat and older than 21....but too late....I already posted it to the world. -
Sorry gamergirl......chin up. There will be better days. I have a good friend with RA. No, losing the weight didn't completely resolve all her RA struggles, but she's way more active, energetic and happy than she ever was before. So while the sleeve isn't going to give you a care free/pain free existence....it is going to improve. My advice....if you're not already doing it....start keeping a journal now of how you feel, especially your pain and energy levels. We all log our food but not many of us log our day to day wellness. A year from now, you'll be able to look back on that log and see a huge improvement.

Did a nice easy 3 mile run this morning. So, day 22....93.3 miles. Tomorrow is my last 10K race, and it will be a fun one. The course is just back and forth over a big bridge until you die.....or run 6.2 miles....whichever. The good news is....we're getting lots of rain and it should be cooler tomorrow than the 90 degree weather we've been having. That makes a huge difference.
-
Me too....but only cause it's raining cats and dogs here.....finally.
-
It ain't the body.... It's the brain.... Our crazy twisted deranged brains.
-
Great. Welcome aboard. Good luck on making that 50 miles. That extra push of fitness now will pay off in a better recovery later.
