    January fitness challenge

LOL.. Thanks but anyone who knows me knows I won't be wearing any orthotics. My problem is I trail run in vibrams which offer no protection when you stub your toe on a hidden tree root while barreling through the forest. Occasionally these things happen. It's not my first broken toe and likely won't be the last. The way I look at it....it's less painful than dying from obesity.

Sorry you're frustrated globe. I know it's gotta be agonizing. My only point was....hang in there. Keep doing the right things and give it more time. You're improving your health everyday even if you don't see it. Eventually the results will become visible.

    Circumferential Body Lift Done 12/6

Thanks for that update. It's true the recovery from abdominaplasty is way more severe that gastric sleeve. And swelling is so common. You're doing all the right things. I hope you feel better very soon.
  4. It really doesn't seem like the OP wanted advice at all...at least not from us. He did ask that any medical professionals should weigh in if they choose....but I think it's safe to say that any competent medical professional is going to err on the side of decency, safety and healthy responsibility by not encouraging this horrible behavior in any way. Yes it's true, many people here have done this. I did it a couple of times in my first 2 weeks. That doesn't make it ok nor should we promote a "safe" method of doing it. This OP is enabling a deadly eating disorder....nothing else. This forum is about helping others and sharing ideas. And I know that's exactly what the OP was trying to do....but we have a responsibility not to help others go down a destructive path. And in my humble opinion, this entire thread will only give encouragement to someone who happens along looking to justify their destructive behavior.

    Tummy tuck today!

Congrats on getting your consult scheduled. I personally don't think you'll see much change in the pub is area or the thighs from a TT. But from a LBL....definitely. But obviously a surgeon could answer that question much better than I could.

Globe you're not giving it enough time to work. You can't expect to see results in 30 days. That's a pipe dream. Fitness is a lifetime pursuit and 30 days is hardly enough time to reshape your body.

    Happy New Year from Scotland

Scotland? Is that where you are? I never knew that. Now I'm gonna have to start reading all your threads with a Scottish accent.

    New Year, new us

Yes it's nice not starting a year with a resolution to "finally" start losing some weight. I feel a sense of hope going into the new year that I never used to have. Like actual hope that every year can be better than the year before....rather than worse.

I believe you were quoting redbean...she's pure Cajun. I'm a Texan too. Little blip on the radar called Tarkington Prairie.

Yes that is the one thing keeping me from going postal, I should be able to swim with no problem.

I don't do crossfit but if I did I wouldn't hesitate to do it in vibrams. When I lift weights I always do it on vibrams. I believe in the theory behind wearing minimalist shoes, especially for running but they work for all types of movements. I believe they make your feet stronger and healthier and they save your back and knees from impact injuries because you are forced to land softly on your feet. The down side is the occasional misstep like tripping over an unseen tree root while running hard. I run in them 50% of the time and the other 50 I run in other minimalists shoes that have slightly more protection. Other than trail running I've never had a problem with them. And trail running is always precarious no matter what shoes you wear. Anecdotally I believe that of I did not wear the vibrams I would have suffered major knee pain long before now. My knees ache any time I run in heavily padded shoes because over the course of the run I end up landing much harder. You cannot land hard in the vibrams or it will hurt your feet....so you automatically lighten your step. Or at least, you're supposed to. I love how I can feel the ground/floor beneath them. I feel so much more connected to the earth.

Happy New Year, Happy Green Day?

Yeah I don't think the price has gone up on those tacos in 25 years. They are still cheap and nasty. But after a long hard night of power drinking they were always quite good. I wonder how good they'd be after smoking pot. I wouldn't know cause I've never tried it. My job does way too many random drug tests.

Happy New Year, Happy Green Day?

Very true.....but then again back in my drinking days every night of hard drinking ended with a greasy fattening meal at 2am. Usually I'd load up on those cheap tacos from jack in the box. Five dollars will buy you alot of tacos.

I think they ought to legalize pot if alcohol is legal. Not much difference.....except pot has zero calories.

No last time I took 3 days off and went back to running. I just had to be extra careful and I couldn't wear the vibrams for a while. Hopefully it will be the same this time....but I won't know until the initial pain and swelling goes down. Right now it feels like a grenade went off in my shoe.

    January fitness challenge

So I started my new year off right.....with a 6.5 mile trail run....and a broken pinkie toe. Yep....it's déjà vu all over again. I just broke a toe back in September and now another one. Tripped over a nasty root. The leaves on the trail this time of year cover up all the obstacles, making it precarious. Icing it right now....hoping I can get a shoe on tomorrow.

    December Fitness Challenge

Hey folks. It's time for the December addition of the monthly fitness challenge. For those of you unfamiliar, the goal is to set a specific fitness goal for yourself, and then go for it. The goal should be specific and measurable, so that you can keep a running log here toward your progress. Some common goals are xxx miles run/walked/bicycled over the course of the month....xx hours on the elliptical, stationary bike..... xx workouts per week or xx hours spent exercising per week. Whatever you want, so long as it is specific and measurable. Start off by introducing yourself and stating your specific goal...then come here each day or as often as you'd like and update your progress for the month. The whole point is to set a goal that is slightly above your comfort level....one you have to push yourself a little to achieve. But whatever your goal, the success will come for reaching for it....whether you make it or not is irrelevant. We all have setbacks...we get sick, injured or just plain busy. If that happens, don't give up. Just amend your goal and continue on till the end of the month. This challenge will carry is right into the new year and hopefully by the time it's over all of us will be breathing easier and feeling better from the activity. Ok....I'll start. My goals for December are to run 120 miles, swim 9000 meters and do 1500 walking lunges.

Great to have you marycontrary. As for updating your goal.....I should have mentioned that in the original post. It's perfectly ok to modify your goal mid month if circumstances dictate. I don't want anyone to feel hesitant about joining because they might not make goal. I didn't make mine for December. I'm happy to admit that.....because I'm proud of myself for setting an aggressive goal and going for it. So there's no shame in my game. Life happens. Our bodies don't always cooperate. Not the end of the world. Don't let it derail your fitness progress completely just because there are setbacks. Keep plugging away and modify your goals if necessary. Just don't quit.

    December Fitness Challenge

Hey everyone. Great job this month. It's been tough I know, but I'm proud of all of you who are still working it. I surpassed my swimming goal....I got 10,300 meters. But fell 15 miles short of my running miles with only 105. I've started the January challenge. Here it is.... http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/292789-january-fitness-challenge/?p=3302431

LOL...sounds like a good explanation to me.

wheat, carbs my dr said NO, NO!

Arts....read the book "why we get fat" Or watch the movie Fathead. They both explain it. But in very simple terms....the simple carbs create an insulin response which inhibits our ability to break down body fat and increases our ability to store body fat. Which leads to more fat storage, less fuel for energy....which itself leads to more hunger (which starts the process all over again).

You can still lurk. And you're not too far shy of 200 post. You can get there. We felt the post count requirement was needed to protect the forum from other circumstances. However we did allow for that requirement to be waived on a case-by-case basis.... Mainly just for people like you that we do not want to exclude.

Rude. Why all the sarcasm? You clearly want to separate yourself from the rest of us pigs. Okay fine. Then just simply answer my original question. What made you fat if it was not eating too much?
