Did I stretch? (venting, mostly)
Butterthebean replied to plasticbee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The thing about stretching the sleeve is....it takes decades of over eating to stretch a regular stomach. The sleeve is the least elastic part of the stomach. That's what you have left. How much longer is it going to take to stretch that out? Way more than 2 months. As inflammation from surgery goes down, our food capacity will go up...but not to the levels it was pre-op. Not to mention...as you said....dense Proteins cause that restriction to kick in sooner. -
Ugh....on my way now. Not looking forward to it. The 5 pound dumbells will be busy.

Ouch. Well I hope it heals quickly. Sorry. Have you had an X-ray yet to rule out a fracture? Stress fractures in the feet are very common and they take forever to heal because we never stay off them. I was going to say if you think it's PF there is nothing better than making fists with your toes on carpet to help that.

Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?
Butterthebean replied to *Dean*'s topic in Fitness & Exercise
I try not to worry about that too much. After I completed C25K I simply kept running for longer and longer distances. Trying to add a lap at the track each time I went out. Before long I outgrew the track and was adding miles on the the road (or trail). Once on the road the longer miles get easier because of ever changing scenery. The true 5K distance came very quickly thereafter. But doing it in 30 minutes or less did not. I'm ok with that though. The c25K program gave me the tool to go as far as I want to. -

I was just thinking the same thing. -
Looks like fun. I'll be curious to see when and where they have the race this year. Sounds tough.

HOW TO GUIDE for Chewing and Spitting
Butterthebean replied to Gone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you didn't read the original thread...consider yourself lucky. It was a long diatribe about safe and practical ways to chew and spit. It was a terrible case of enabling a nasty eating disorder. The admins were all over this thread immediately, but no rules were broken so no censoring needed to be done. It was however, horribly irresponsible and in completely poor taste. I normally don't like it when an OP deletes his original thread, but in this case I'm glad he did. It was just too reckless and someday, some one was going to read it and feel it was a green light to start a brand new eating disorder that was not present in their lives prior to WLS. -

I'll go along with that. -
HOW TO GUIDE for Chewing and Spitting

Yes but that's completely different than what the op was suggesting. He was suggesting you do it regularly instead of eating. What you're describing is harmless. What the op was encouraging was a full on eating disorder. -
Really? I still haven't found it. Lack of ghrelin has made my eyesight questionable.

I think globetrotter was doing it but was talking of changing things up.

Did 7.2 miles on some forest service roads today. A nice break from the trails and easy on the toes. The toe did hurt too bad....I buddy taped it.

Cheap bikes? Go for a used one. Pawn shops and Craigslist are loaded with cheap used bikes. Glad you've joined. I had a TT at the beginning of October and it was hell being sidelined. Felt so good to get back to exercise. Good luck and join when you can.

I started out with under armour shirts (or the cheaper knock offs) but eventually bought a compression garment made for tummy tuck patients. It's like a pair of compression underwear that comes up to the top of my abdomen and has a zipper in front. At first it felt restrictive but I very quickly learned to love the security of having my belly held in place. I originally wore it for jogging but soon wore it everywhere. I bought it at makemeheal.com

Circumferential Body Lift Done 12/6
Butterthebean replied to Scout1234's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Drink lots of fluids. Cut back on sodium. Keep the swollen parts elevated and wear compression garments on them. If it's your legs, do like the op did and buy some under armour compression tights that are a size too small. That should help. -

You gotta take it easy. It's hard to know how much is too much. You almost have to use trial and error. Except we need to err on the side of caution and not push our luck. -
Drain hole issue/question
Butterthebean replied to farmgirl04's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Farmgirl are you still having pain in your drain hole (damn that sounds creepy....lol)? My only continued pain is right on my main drain hole...level though that drain has been gone for over 3 months. It still hurts at times. My drains were in my groin, I don't recall of you said you had them in your sides or the groin. But still every so often, for no apparent reason, it will feel like I got stabbed there with a knife. It's not comfortable. Doc said it's just the nerves growing back after massive surgery.....much the same way other areas are still numb. -
Hey farmgirl. I know I'm a bit late to this, but after my TT I was told I could begin serious walking 14 days post op. by serious I mean 1 mile. And that was all I could walk. But I was up to 2-3 miles by 1 month post op.

750 yards swimming. Really was not feeling it. Fluff...I know you can relate to this since you swim regularly....but it hurt my broken toe to kick my feet in the freestyle. I could do side stroke and breast stroke with no pain. Those frog kicks didn't seem to bother me. Unfortunately I suck at breast stroke....and both of those strokes are more tiring to me so I did not get my full distance. I hope I can return to running in a couple of days. Meanwhile...here's a little piggy that is nicely swollen.

Your favorite PROTEIN BARS?
Butterthebean replied to JanetBP's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Nutritionally speaking, the Quest bars are hard to beat. Their high Fiber content gives them very low net carbs. Meaning, yes they are high in carbs but very little of it is sugar. And as for the taste....15 seconds in the microwave makes them taste so much better. Take them out of the wrapper first. Don't ask me how I know this.
