Dying To Be Thin...
Butterthebean replied to LifeLiver's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well said Lifeliver. It's clear there are risks/complications with any WLS. Some can be mitigated but some cannot. We cannot "blame the victim" in every case. I'm glad you're having success now and while I don't want to bash any WLS, I do think that public awareness and education about these eventualities is a must. -
You look great. But... is that a heater in your fireplace? If so why do you have firewood sitting next to it? Inquiring minds want to know.

Too Fat To Run For President?
Butterthebean replied to Terry Poperszky's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Remember we're living in a post "Biggest Loser" world. People automatically equate obesity to laziness and unproductiveness. Even though we all know that's just not true. Public perception still rules. -
I Want To See Before & After Pics!
Butterthebean replied to Christina760's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Thanks. I'm not famous....maybe notorious. Advice? Stick to your docs pre and post op plan. If you feel you need to deviate from it, contact him first. You might find him more flexible than you think but it's worth talking things out with him. Really embrace loving Water. After surgery make that priority number 1. Protein next. Walk as often as you can those few weeks post op. Do not compare your weight loss to others and be disappointed. Do not be surprised if you stall or even gain a pound here and there. Body weight fluctuates for so many reasons. Take before and after pics and measurements. They tell the real story. Not the scale. The scale is a lying fiend and will break your heart at some point. That's guaranteed. Take a long look at your food issues. What foods and emotions trigger you to eat? Keep asking yourself this question even after surgery because the answer will get even clearer as time goes on. Starches and sweets increase hunger. So if you don't want to be hungry those are the first things that should go. Surround yourself with positive supportive people and distance yourself from those that make this thing harder. You're saving your own life here, it's too important to let others sabotage it. Find some sort of physical activity that you enjoy and do it as often as you can. Exercise does not have to be a tedious chore. Be prepared to second guess your decision at some point, but know that will pass. Weigh and measure your portion sizes so you know exactly how much you're eating and log it on MYFITNESSPAL or elsewhere. Studies show that it increases the chance of long term success. Never ever lose your sense of humor. You're gonna need it. Lastly, take all the advice given here with a grain of salt and a dash of common sense. -
I just snorted so loud I woke up the missus.

As soon as you loose your weight can you
Butterthebean replied to beauty29's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
It is important that your weight be stable for several months so that your body is not in a catabolic mode after surgery. If so, it will impede healing. -

What People Will Say Now They Wouldn't Say Before
Butterthebean replied to thedivinemsQ's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
We just have to cut some people some slack. Often times these people have never known us as anything but obese. Suddenly we're shrinking right before their eyes. They don't know what to say....they only know we no longer fit their mental image of us. Eventually their mental image of us will readjust to our new selves....but it will be slow to happen. It's certainly better than them seeing us gain weight. -
Besides....I think I said you looked nice....but with a hint of serial killer. Subtle difference.

See? It ain't just me.

Im at the jiggly belly stage. You?
Butterthebean replied to gamergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That was a huge one for me too. I don't know if women get this....but I never felt good about tucking in my shirt. I thought I looked awful....plus of course when I sat down everything expanded and the shirt would pull out. Now I wanna tuck in my shirt everyday. Whether I should or not. -
It's full release but to "ease back into things." I'm already anticipating having the cardiovascular function of day old bread.
