Honestly I spent all my life with that hangy downy panni. It took about a month for me to get used to it being gone. I was like an amputee that kept forgetting a limb was gone. It was weird. I'm 7 weeks post op and feeling great.

It's weird what they'll bleep out. HMO used to get bleeped out. I can't stand that fucking shit.

Well if you're going to go that far....you may as well perform your own surgery. I believe I could do a sleeve on myself but not sure what size bougie to use.
  11. Butterthebean

    Curious

I chose the sleeve because I felt it was the protocol I could stick with forever. It also seemed to have the right mix of good results/ low complications. They all seemed equally invasive. Cutting out a certain percentage of my stomach seemed like no problem to me since it wasn't doing anything but allowing me to get fatter. I have 15% of my stomach left....but that's way bigger than 15% of a normal stomach. People forget that. Also....after I lost the weight....I had some very healthy hanging skin cut off during my tummy tuck. That skin was healthy...but I had no issue getting it removed surgically. It wasn't helping me either. I believed then and still do that one of the keys to success with any WLS is following the plan for life. All the surgeries have different plans (but certainly with similarities). All have drawbacks....all have risk of complications....all have successes and failures. None of them offer any guarantees, but you can improve your chances by working your particular surgery's protocol.

The biggest problem with that thread was not the OP...although her story did change as she went along. But rather it was another poster who gave some rather deluded advice. If you don't start reading all the threads in their entirety I'm going to have to revoke your super-sarcasm-enabler status.
  13. I've inspired many people in real life to SAY they wanted to lose weight or get healthy. But not one person has actually done anything.....except my wife. She honestly was not that heavy. She's fairly healthy, eats light and exercises. But I did inspire her to break away from some of her long held ideals of health and fitness. The first was her no fat/low fat mentality. She'd buy anything that said "reduced fat". Yet she'd starve herself and not lose weight. I talked her into considering the effect of carbs, and showed her the information about how dietary fat does not cause body fat. She finally delved into it more closely with her huge analytical brain and realized I was right. She is so smart but she never researched this....just followed the no fat propaganda machine. I also convinced her that an hour a day of steady state cardio....EVERYDAY....might not be the best use of her time. And that lifting heavy weights was not gonna cause her to gain weight and look like Lou Ferrigno with boobs. She committed herself to lifting heavy weights 3 times a week and doing cardio 3 times a week....and she's seen massive changes in body composition....along with losing weight and busting through a plateau that has persisted for over 8 years. She's thrilled with her success and so am I.

    Drinking Water After Excercise

4 ounces an hour? That might be the first 2 weeks, after that it will increase dramatically. You'll be able to drink much more quickly than that. By my 6 week mark I could drink a 32 oz bottle in an hour. But as a helpful tool....one thing I started doing that I never did before was pre hydrate. I drink as much Water as I can the hour before exercise. That way I need way less during and after.

Well, I will say I've embraced the "throwing away of food"......but definitely because of the negative effects of eating it. I'm like Doc Hershey's husband.....why leave it on the shelf for later? Hey....these cookies aren't going to eat themselves, I better do it. My wife can make a package of M&Ms last a month. I can't make them last 2 minutes. If I want to eat less than ideal foods with any semblance of moderation, I either have to buy very tiny quantities (which is getting harder and harder) or eat 3 bites and dump the rest into the kitty litter box before it falls into my mouth. I don't think I'd last too long at your house Cheri. 6 dozen cookies would not make it too "cool" on your counter. Maybe 4 dozen. I still have those reflexes....that drive to eat all things loaded with sugar. But at least I have found the will not to bring them into my house......often.

So maybe the reason you can walk away is because you've experienced negative feedback in the form of dumping? I've never had an episode...and frankly I regret it, because I can eat sweets day and night still with no adverse effects......except of course the scale skyrockets.

    How Fast Is Too Fast?

Hey jack. I was about the same starting weight as you, and my rate of loss was about the same. Don't worry. The bigger you are, the faster you will lose......normally. Also men tend to lose faster than women...again....normally. So don't fret. This whole concept of "losing too fast" is a total myth. Holding into 400 pounds of weight....that's what was unhealthy my friend. I know cause I was there too. The biggest risk is gall bladder stones which I never had. And there is no evidence that the stones are any better or worse depending on rate of loss. At some point your rate of loss will slow down dramatically. If you slide right past a healthy weight you can always up your calories with easily digestible foods (sliders). But until that day comes, I would not worry about this. Keep following the plan and see what happens. Congrats on your success so far.

I just got home from out of town and all I can say is the mobile app is working like total dogs hit now. I've tried deleting it and reinstalling it....nothing helps. It freezes everytime I try to post. I've posted several nekkid dancing videos and none of them are here. WTF! I can't even report the problem because the "report a technical issue" thingy hasn't worked from day 1. I've posted about it to Susan and Alex and never received a comment or reply. They must both have me blocked. Good thing that is working properly. As too Fluff's dilemma, I have no answer. Our approach was an "every man for him/her self". My wife really hated this at first. She comes from a family that sits down at EVERY meal. I decided I didn't need to sit there and watch her eat a large meal every night when I wasn't hungry and couldn't eat what she was eating. Furthermore, I needed to eat on my schedule....my "every 3 hour protein" schedule....which didn't always coincide with her schedule. When you eat 2 or 3 big meals a day, waiting an hour or 2 for dinner is no big deal. When you eat 6 mini meals a day, you can't wait an additional 2 hours. Now she does intermittent fasting. She eats from 8am to 4pm and then she's done for the day. I don't get home from work till 630. So dinner together is a rare thing now. But we make up for it in other ways. We still spend that time together, just not eating. We both have decided that our health is too important and our dietary needs are too different....so we each eat when/what we need....and we plan our together time around other things. We don't have kids but we do have many animals. We take turns feeding them and they eat what we give them. My mom always said she should have puppies instead of babies. Now I see why.
  20. That makes perfect sense to me. If the condition is controlled but the obesity does not correct itself, then absolutely I think the surgery is beneficial. Thanks for taking the time to answer.

Confused on what surgery to have

I know this is an old post, but I have an answer. That "un used" part of the stomach is removed with vsg. It is not left inside.

I pre-burned those calories before eating them. Did a half marathon so .......yay moderation.
  24. I totally agree with you on this point because I it's clear the OP was not forthcoming initially about what she was eating. And ......whatever the cause.....we are ALL overweight because we ate too much of the wrong kinds of food for our body. Doesn't mean you shoveled in food like a dump truck. But you ate more than your body could process. If you ate a healthy amount or even less, and your body still stored it all as fat due to some metabolic condition, then why have WLS? It will not help. It only reduces your intake. Why not address the real problem? And I don't think doctors are gods, but I do know that you are not capable of diagnosing the OP from here.

    Pants on Fire!

Keep in mind this thread is not confusing "keeping it private" with "lying." This thread was started specifically about people who make up a phony circumstance to explain weight loss.....big big difference. That is what was being discussed. It was not to insult those that simply felt the need to keep it private nor do we lump them all together. It is not to criticize those that keep it to themselves.
