Lapband Vs Sleeve Vs Bypass Surgery

I'm thinking there was just a misunderstanding here. If the staples fell into the digestive track to be pooped, they had to be on the inside of the stomach....but if they were, how did he get the stapler in there? Or out again?

  4. Marfar...there's alot of evidence to suggest that it's not just about calories. All calories are not created equal. Your intake may be fairly low in calories but it also seems extremely low in Protein and high in carbs. High GI carbs inhibit your body's ability to burn fat and increase hunger.....a double whammy. I only say that to suggest that it may be more about quality rather than quantity for you. If you're interested, read the book "Good Calories, Bad Calories."

    Swimming Anyone?

Anybody here do any regular swimming? I've just started, hoping to train for a triathlon. I already run and bike but I haven't swam in decades. I'm really not good, my feet drag too low and I swallow enough Water to meet my daily hydration goals on each lap. If there are any good swimmers out there I'm open to tips.

I Have Nasty, Loose Skin Now. Not Very Attractive!

I don't think you can do much to minimize it other than what you're doing. Spare as much muscle as you can. Keep strength training and keep hydrated. Everything else is purely anecdotal. I lost 180+ pounds and I had the cottage cheese hangy downy stuff too. Hated it. I'm 2 months post op from my tummy tuck and I can't believe the difference. I feel amazing. I'm very happy with the result. It was a much tougher surgery than my sleeve, but well worth it. I felt like I was still fat until I had the surgery. I came out if it with visible abs. Made me realize that skin can really fool you, and play head games with your sanity. Here's a link to my thread about it. Somewhere in there are the before and after pics. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/266280-tummy-tuck-today/

    18 Month Follow Up

Hey my fellow sleeve victims. I had my 18 month post op follow up visit today. Nothing unusual to report. Everything is fine. I've lost 83% of my excess body weight and gone from a BMI of 52 to 28. It's hard to believe I can it's been 18 months, time flies. But it's been a great time and the best decision I've ever made. This pic I think says it all.

Wow....I apologized and you condescend. Ok. I'm glad you have other sources to show you just how truly one sided and ignorant that link truly is.

Lapband Vs Sleeve Vs Bypass Surgery

Sorry. Didn't mean to be nasty. But most of those facts are either outdated, false or clearly slanted to sell lapband which is the surgery performed by that doctor. It's not an objective comparison and there are some very misleading "facts" in there. If that is your sole source of research about the sleeve then you have been mislead. Again, sorry if I was nasty. My apologies.

    November fitness challenge

Ran 4 miles today....my first continuous run since surgery 8 weeks ago. Hallelujah. It felt good to get out on the road again with a straight up run. Plus I made my goal for the month. 61.2 miles total. I also joined a gym with a pool yesterday to start swimming. My goal is to swim 2 days a week in addition to my running so I can do triathlon next year.

Lololol.....what a crappy, outdated and biased article. Seriously that is a sales pitch written by a doctor who does not do the sleeve. Completely prejudicial and faulty information. Please do not post such misleading information.

    Eating capacity for males

There's also the cottage cheese test....if you want to know your actual stomach capacity. This test was designed for RNY (like most things) but it works with the sleeve as well. Have fun. http://www.bsciresourcecenter.com/proddetail.php?prod=A4 Purchase a container of small curd low-fat cottage cheese. Begin the test with a full container of cottage cheese, and perform the test in the morning before eating anything else. This will be your Breakfast on that day. Eat fairly quickly until you feel full (less than five minutes). Note that the small soft curds do not require much chewing. You are eating rapidly so you will fill the pouch before there is time for any food to flow out of it. After eating your "fill" of cottage cheese, you will be left with a partially eaten container that has an empty space where cottage cheese used to be. Measure the volume of cottage cheese you have eaten by filling a two cup (16 fl.oz.) measuring cup with Water. Pour water into the container of cottage cheese until the water level rises to the original top level of the cottage cheese. The amount of water poured into the container is the functional size of your pouch.

Lapband Vs Sleeve Vs Bypass Surgery

Just as an FYI the last time I checked the complication rate for the sleeve was 3.2%. That is very low. And that includes all surgical complications not just leaks. I'm not sure what the band and RNY rate is but with a good surgeon and proper post op care/compliance all of us can help our chances of being successful. I see alot of personal biases here being used as a reason to not have this or that surgery. I guess that's perfectly natural...human nature. The way some people don't want all those staples inside them, I didn't want that band inside me. But when I think about it.....neither one is a "foreign object". Both were meant for exactly that usage. Both work very well and the risks of both can be mitigated by patient compliance. Not eliminated but mitigated. I still say take a look at the post op protocol of each surgery....from the recovery time to life 5 years out and beyond. The diet, the doctor follow ups, everything. Decide which of the protocols you think you would like to adapt your life to...because that is key to success. Adapting your life to the post op protocol. I see too many people getting creative with their post op care and that drives the complication and failure rates up with ALL surgeries.

Lapband Vs Sleeve Vs Bypass Surgery

As has been said, all surgeries come with risks and all can be successful.....but the sleeve being "the riskiest of all weight loss surgeries" just does not ring true. The complication rates are actually quite low. I'm sure your surgeon is a wonderful doctor but that statement is purely her opinion and not backed up by facts.
