Glad, you're doing well. What kind of restrictions do you have? What kind of eating plan? Very curious if it is similar to the other surgeries.

Doing fine fiddle. It's tender but it has not stopped me. I did 5.5 miles yesterday and 5 more today. I'll do the 1/2 this Saturday, the only question is whether or not I'll wear the vibrams. I did wear them today and they felt great. I just have to be careful not to stub that toe right now cause it's hilly sensitive. So far 57.6 miles running for the month.

The tall one with the droopy boobs?

How did you like that ice bath? It's no fun is it? But it does wonders for inflammation. Is your half marathon this weekend? Congrats. I'll be running a half marathon this weekend too. Best of luck to you.

Ouch. Sorry globe. I'd also try making fists with your toes, on carpet preferably. Really strengthens the tendons of the arch. Also, lots of calf stretching. Lastly.....I dunno if you can get these while you're deployed.....but my wife swears by these. The look like toe less socks, but they are super tight....almost like compression socks. I recently got a pair and I do like them. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CF3AUPA/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

amino acid supplements for workouts?
Butterthebean replied to CowgirlJane's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Jane...glad to hear you've joined a gym and you're liking it. Gym trainers seem to be very fond of lunges and that will definitely build your rear end back up. As far as BCAA's...I think they are definitely one of the best bangs for your buck when it comes to nutritional supplements. I don't take much at all in the way of supplements...I think Fiddleman is the real expert on this....but I do take BCAA's religiously and I think they make a huge difference in workout recovery and Protein synthesis. My preferred is SciVation Xtend...green apple explosion. http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/sv/xtend.html I mix it with my Water and it improves the taste...allowing me to drink more water. It's also sugar free. -
That's excellent Globe. I hope this keeps working for you. Heaven knows you are do for some success. You've been working so hard. Hows the foot?

Twenty two thousand dollars
Butterthebean replied to CBT's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Wow that's alot of money. My surgeon told me all the same things. Except of course I was only getting a TT so it was $12000. The thing is, it may as well have been $50000 cause I didn't have it. But I found a way and you know what? It was worth it. I've spent more money on stuff that would not be with me near as long, or make me near as happy with myself. The surgery finally allowed the outside to match the inside...allowed me to see the results of all my hard work. I would do it again everytime. -
Posting Before and After Pics on Profile Page?
Butterthebean replied to NewSetOfCurves's topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
Hey Curvy....you have to be sneaky. It's not real intuitive. Go to your patient profile. Click "My Photos" From there....should be pretty easy to follow. -
Am I the only one who studied that picture for a while trying to figure out which body was me?

I guess the rest of the people on this thread with kids are lousy parents compared to you?

Looking for ideas for eating during endurance workouts
Butterthebean replied to Niki-70's topic in Fitness & Exercise
To me it doesn't seem that controversial. I completely get it. Have you read the book Slow Burn? Great book about a guy who ran 1100 miles in 10 days on low carbs. He teaches how to workout in the fat burning zone rather than the sugar burning zone so you don't need to eat a bunch of fuel. Excellent read...especially for those of us who don't want to load up on carbs because of blood sugar or digestive issues. -
Mixed responses/directions.... Which is correct?
Butterthebean replied to Ree's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Totally agree with this but it seems unnecessary for someone newly sleeved. I think this whole business of how long a meal should take is a small matter in the overall picture. IMHO what matters is overall calorie intake and getting in the proper nutrition. If one does that, it shouldn't matter how fast or slow they eat. As you say right now it may take you a long time to get in your Protein. But get it in you must. But when you get to the point I'm at....I can eat 2 oz of fish in 3 minutes. No point in me stretching it out to a half hour. If I ate for that long I'd over eat. -
Oh wow....glad I asked then. Thanks for sharing. I'm looking forward to hearing more about this. Good luck.

Seela....I wish. I work 12 hour shifts....plus I have an hour commute each way. It does make it challenging to find the time...much less e energy. Frankly....some things get sacrificed. But I've tried to sacrifice the things that weren't doing much for me to begin with. I've almost completely cut out TV....whereas before I watched several hours a day.

Looking for ideas for eating during endurance workouts
Butterthebean replied to Niki-70's topic in Fitness & Exercise
B-52...I knew I liked you for some reason. I love fasted runs for burning fat. My wife runs half marathons fasted with no problem. I don't always do it fasted but I might eat some nuts and a boiled egg. The fats and protein sustain me....I absolutely do not carb load and I try to stay in a fat burning mode while exercising so that I never bonk. And I do not bonk ever. But question...you said you always run on an empty stomach...then you seem to be saying you drink a Protein Shake before hand...which is it? Just curious. +1 for the energy squares from Nuts.com But fiddle....don't alot of crossfitters also eat Paleo? If so, they manage without carb loading right? Just curious. Hi Niki. Obviously, there are alot of differing opinions on this. I've done alot of cycling and running. I hate gu's and gels and I cannot eat solid food on a long run or ride. I'm fine for anything less than 2 hours but after that I need something. My absolute favorite thing is pocket fuel.... http://www.pocketfuelnaturals.com/products/chocolate-haze/ They are almond butter based little packets. The flavors are good. The ingredients are all natural. The are dairy free and gluten free. They are the one thing that does agree with my sleeve on a long run or ride. -
I work out on any day ending in Y....short of that I rest. I wish I was smart like you about supplements...or stretching....or mobility training. I don't do any of that. I take BCAA's in my Water and I use the foam roller about once a month whether I need to or not.....that's about it. I hate taking days off and frankly if I do it's not because my body doesn't want to work out, it's because life threw me a curveball that I couldn't handle and I ran out of time for the day. I keep waiting for my body to tell me to slow down and take a rest. But instead it's telling me to get up and get moving. We are all capable of doing more than we think we can.

Ree...the problem is if you read enough you're gonna find 1000 different ways to do things from 1000 different sources. You put your faith in your surgeon, so that's whose word you should turn to first...not some other source. Just my opinion of course, but I would ask my surgeon first. Having said that, does your surgeon's guidelines say at least 30 minutes or no more than 30? Cause I've never heard of anyone saying to purposely take more than 30 minutes. That just seems too long to do forever. I realize right now it might take you a long time to eat but it won't be like that forever. My surgeon said at 20 minutes...stop eating, other wise yes...you are just grazing. -
What surgery are you having?

Already up to 40.9 miles running this month.....need to pick it up on the swimming....2750 meters to date.

Hey runners. Hope everyone is doing well. Congrats to Deedumble. You half marathon in Hawaii sounds awesome. Setting up a destination race is a great way to motivate yourself. Btw....after my last race I dumped a bag of ice into a cold bath and jumped in. Whoa....hardest thing I've ever done, but I had absolutely no soreness or stiffness the next day. 10 minutes is all it took. -
I will never look at a leg press machine the same way again.

Yeah I'm no expert, but let's leave the divine powers out if your swimming. He has bigger "fish" to fry. ;p

Do what you can....and I hope you're able to get your hip pain resolved soon.
