How Much Should I Be Working Out?
Butterthebean replied to JamaicanGirl2011's topic in Fitness & Exercise
It surely depends on what your goals are. If you're still trying to lose weight, I would agree that you need more than 30 minutes. Some people like at least an hour 4-5 times per week. I find it easier to do only 45 minutes but workout at least 6 days a week. If you want to do more than just lose, if you want to become a fitness freak, you might consider working up to at least 1 hour per day 6 days a week. I don't like taking days off, but I do give myself an easy workout day once a week instead. Every one is different, and your body can only do what it can do. Whatever you do, if you increase your workouts, build them up SLOWLY. -
Bat Wing Solutions?
Butterthebean replied to Queen of Crop's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Queen, the one thing that would tighten them is to add some upper arm muscle. But that is extremely difficult to do on a calorie deficient diet, as you probably know. For me, I can't get my upper arms to grow without doing heavy (for me) weights as well. You could do a funky sleeve tattoo to distract attention from the loose skin. -
Do not make me turn the hose on you....

I got no real answer here, just an observation. A few years ago I lost 120 pounds the hard way. At the time I called it "diet and exercise", but what I was really doing was starving myself, and I could not maintain it....but that's another story. Anyway, people would always comment on the weightloss, and then immediately follow up with the inevitable question, "how did you do it?" I think they really want to hear some solution that they had not thought of or heard about. When I said "diet and exercise," 9 times out of 10 I could see a wave of disappointment come over their faces. As if to say, "oh, that....to hard." Now when people ask me, I tell them I had gastric sleeve surgery, and I get a myriad of looks from shock, surprise, bewilderment, confusion, curiosity and hope. What I never get is disappointment. I find it funny. Some people really want to know more about it, some people already have their mind made up. And some end up walking away scratching their heads. I always end up smiling to myself thinking, "you asked."

What Is Your Most Embarrassing Moment At Restaurant

Good old Astroworld. That brings back some memories. I used to ride the cable cars over and over again because there was no problem fitting in there. -
Surgery Tomorrow And I Bummed....

Perhaps your doctor could have someone call your husband with a report after you're out of surgery. -
Hypoglycemia?
Butterthebean replied to NicholePerlatti's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I always had a huge problem with this before surgery. If I would restrict my calories enough to lose weight, my blood sugar would bottom out and I would feel like crap. My doctor told me this would not be a problem after surgery and he was right. I really didn't believe him at first, but there has not been an issue. I try to eat something every 3 hours or so, but also I've cut out all starches and simple sugars. That has helped me tremendously. Without the starches, my insulin levels stay more even, and that helps keep my blood sugar levels even as well. It helps to always have a healthy snack available. I keep almonds in my truck and I carry string cheese with me when I ride my bike. -

Dehydration can cause dry eyes which, yes, can cause blurred vision. But likely you would have other symptoms as well....dry mouth, dry wrinkly skin, dark yellow urine, possibly cramps (I get them in my calves at night). If your eyes are watery, then it's possibly something else. But at one week post op, it can never hurt to drink more Water, if you can.

Weight Loss Has Stopped 1 Year Out!
Butterthebean replied to Sue Vsg Bariatric's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry Sue. Sounds like you already know the answer. Tracking your food. It sounds like you've had some great success, and you're almost there. For me, I don't ever see a time when I won't be tracking my food. It doesn't bother me. My biology and physiology will not allow me to pay no attention to what I eat without gaining weight. If I could do that, I never would have needed this surgery. But I don't mind. It's a small price to pay to be healthy. Keep going. You'll get there. -
I am working hard to get where you're at. I feel tons better already but I feel the real gains are still ahead of me. I'm glad there are guys like you here posting about your success. There are not enough men on this forum, and even fewer who have made it all the way like you have. It gives the rest of us guys the motivation to keep moving forward. But I would like to add, that old saying about a man gains an inch for every thirty pounds he loses....well, I've lost damn near one hundred pounds and.....apparently, it's true.

It was not that bad, and they give you some good pain medication if you need it. The better shape you're in going in, the easier your recovery will be. The lack of energy was much more noticeable than the pain. Just taking a shower wore me out that first few days. Having a wisdom tooth removed was worse than this.

I'm no expert on hair, but I don't think it will matter to your hair whether you are eating or drinking your protein. It happens to a lot of patients, but to different degrees. Lack of protein will make it worse they say. But solid or liquid protein won't matter. Of course I shave my head so I don't know much about hair.
-
Do you mean all 42 grams of protein are coming from the skim milk? Or did you mean you are adding Protein powder to the skim milk?

You look very bulked up in that picture. You also have your best "don't mess with me" face going on. We need a picture of that you with that look posing next to the Morgan Freeman statue. That would be priceless.

Warning! Angry And Discouraged
Butterthebean replied to KikiCC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't forget, if you haven't been physically active before now, your body is also building a little muscle to get you through the physical demands that you are suddenly placing on it. Muscle weighs more than fat. The good news is, you will only build so much muscle on your limited calories before your body normalizes, but the fat will continue to burn. The scale will move again, it has no choice. Remember that. -
Strange Question Lol.
Butterthebean replied to xlr8ahead's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think the "math" is so inconsequential, that it is irrelevant. The surgeon should and will use whatever size bougie he/she deems medically necessary. And Lissa, I thought I remembered reading on this forum sometime back that someone posted a link to an article stating height had no bearing on the length of the organs, including the stomach. Do you recall that? Maybe I'm misremembering. -
Marriage is a partnership. The responsibilities have to be split or divided up in such a way as to be fair and equitable to both sides. This is where setting boundaries and laying down ground rules BEFOREHAND is very beneficial. Just expecting someone to step up doesn't always go so well, even though you think they should. But, it is never too late to sit down and lay some fresh ground rules. Better that than being miserable and resentful all the time.

I am a bicycling fanatic, so of course I'm gonna say bicycle. I don't have a gym membership but I have several bikes. The great thing about a bike is....you can't quit mid workout like you can on a treadmill or elliptical. You have to get back to where you started from. For me, time doesn't matter and I never get bored. And the scenery is always changing. But the biggest win....if you can figure out a way to ride to and from work safely, you kill 2 birds with one stone. Bicycle commuting is great. I did it in Houston for years, so the heat has nothing to do with it. It's not near as hot riding a bike as it is just standing around outside. At one point, my ride was too long so I just loaded up my bike and drove to the local Junior college and parked there, then pedaled the rest of the way. There is always a way to do it.
