Everyone says their acid reflux felt just like hunger after surgery. I've read that over and over on these forums. So if your hungry and you don't think you should be, try an antacid. I've also been fooled a couple of times by thirst. It happens if I haven't had enough Water. I think I'm hungry even though I just ate. Another tip, I'm a milk lover. I used to drink a gallon every 3 or 4 days. Now 1 sip completely fills me up, like I just ate the Thanksgiving turkey. Of course, that could also be acid reflux. Milk calms heartburn, at least for me.

Mark me down as a believer. I've been putting them in my SF pudding and also in my protein shakes. Don't even notice they are there. Best part is, now my daily "function" is back to normal.

The Stuff They Don't Tell You
Butterthebean replied to Parker's Dad's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started adding chia seeds to my Protein shakes about 5 days ago. Within 1 day everything was back to normal. I can't believe how much better I felt. I was skeptical at first, but those little seeds make a world of difference. I paid $15000 earlier this year to have ours bathroom completely remodeled and by God I want to enjoy it, not sit in there and suffer. -
I had eggs on my soft food diet. Grits on my full liquid diet. Those were from my doctors instructions. Did your doc or NUT give you a list? You could always call them.

Marriage & Vsg...
Butterthebean replied to jessfharris's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hesitate to say anything because I'm not good at this kind of thing, but my knee jerk reaction is to say....refocus his attention on straightening out the financial issues so the 2 of you can move out of your family's residence and into your own place. I've spent some time with my wife at my inlaws (also very religious) and I can tell you, it's stressful. I don't smoke or do anything I shouldn't, but I'm not religious so sometimes I feel like I don't fit in. Maybe that's what he's going through right now. The other stuff about him thinking you will leave him, that's just his insecurity talking. I'd reassure him that you're not going anywhere, but that doesn't give him license to quit making the effort to be a good partner. -
Post-Op Nutrition, Lesson Learned
Butterthebean replied to Mensch's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I've read where Doctors in Europe have their patients eating regular foods in a couple of days. By regular I mean lean Protein solid foods. My doc had me on full liquids the day after surgery. Soft foods (eggs and chili) at 2 weeks. The deal is, they are operating on your stomach, not your teeth. You can chew the heck out of anything and turn it into dust before you swallow it. But having said that, I will say if you enter into a new phase and you are not tolerating it well, then by all means slow down and go back to the previous phase. I'm sure your doctor would agree with that. -
One Thing Doc Said Today.....
Butterthebean replied to Justine13's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Any good surgeon will tell you not to rush. If you don't tolerate the next phase you are supposed to back it up a bit. The problems only come when you move ahead faster than you are supposed to. That being said, my doc had me on full liquids the moment I came home from the hospital, which was the day after surgery. Not everyone has to wait a full week. I was never told to puree anything, but rather to strain Soups and such. Grits, cream of wheat, yogurt and pudding where all on my approved list from the time I got home. -

What Does Slider Food Mean?
Butterthebean replied to jennrus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love the word "insipid". So rare you get to see it used in a conversation. As for slider foods, yeah the whole concept really doesn't seem to apply to the sleeve when you really start thinking about it. But my NUT always referred to them, and she mainly associated them with foods that gave you way too many calories for the amount of restriction they gave. Ice cream and chocolates being one big group, but also any kind of chips or crackers because they can be munched up so small that by the time they reach the stomach, they take up very little room but still have huge calories. -
"you Have To Reexamine Your Relationship With Food"
Butterthebean replied to Butterthebean's topic in Rants & Raves
My food mourning period is long over. I left it in the dust. I did want some tater tots the other day, I had 4 and threw the rest away. I guess that's my little bit of moderation right there. My whole point is that it feels good not to be a slave to those cravings any longer. I'm finding what works for me...as have you....as have we all. I wish nothing but success for everyone here. -
That's crazy. Plus, I gotta ask....how have you been chewing your food all this time?

Way to go. I'm in week 2 of C25K and I'm just starting to like it. Finding a rhythm and a comfortable pace was not easy since I've never been a runner. But I'm getting there.

Basal metabolic rate. That's how many calories your body needs to sustain itself everyday. Eating less than this puts you in a calorie deficit, allowing you to lose weight. As you get lighter and in better shape, your BMR gets lower, meaning you need less calories to maintain. That is what slows down weight loss over time, and eventually stops it. You can raise your BMR by adding more activity to your daily routine, meaning more or higher intensity exercise. It could also just mean more yard work, playing with the kids, whatever keeps you active.
-
Read the link in my sig. Skip down about half way. Basically your BMR has lowered as you've gotten healthier. It's leveling out with your calorie intake, so you either need to lower your intake or, preferably, increase your activity. Meaning up the intensity of your workouts.

Varying Restriction Days.
Butterthebean replied to TakeTwo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im barely 3.5 months out and the other day I ate 6 oz of ribeye and felt satisfied but not uncomfortable. Then later I eat 15 grapes and I'm stuffed. It's weird. -
Sounds good.

Read the link to the article in my sig. It will explain why the scale isn't moving. Initially your body was just burning all your excess glycogen stores, along with quite a bit of water weight. After 3 weeks or so your body starts to replenish all that glycogen along with all that water. It has to for you to have any energy. But it has nothing to do with your fat content. You're still burning fat, but the water gain is equalizing your weight. Soon the water and glycogen reserves will be restored and your weight will begin to fall.

First Trip To Grocery Store 5D Post
Butterthebean replied to Philly Yum's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You could probably have the baby food now if you are on full liquids. Is Jello, pudding or yogurt on your list? If so then baby food should be okay. The first time I went to the grocery store I wanted everything they had. Now my cravings are all but gone. -
Coolbreeze.....the sugar is in the carbs. If the carbs are low, the sugar will be too. In these protein bars, most of the carbs are going to be sugar because they are simple high glycemic carbs.

26 Days Out, Down 27Lbs, And At A Stall. Help!
Butterthebean replied to Aug2ndsleever's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Howdy. I've posted this link a couple of times already. It's a good article explaining why your body weight has stalled. http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.html -
All I know is, whenever you look at the case history of the people who are not losing the weight, or are gaining it back, they are almost always the people in the "everything in moderation" crowd. I know it works for plenty of people, but there are plenty of people who fail because of this. At some point your appetite will come back. Your ability to eat will increase. How much is anybody's guess. It's different for everybody. But if it comes back with a vengeance, what are you gonna do? The sleeve will not give you the same restriction and portion control then.....how will you control your eating if you don't learn any new healthy eating habits? A milkshake won't kill you, but bad eating habits will.
