2 Month Stall And Current Approaches
Butterthebean replied to Fiddleman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, I just went and looked. The one I have is 6 basic moves for maximum muscle. It has several very detailed workout plans for different types of people, and info about how to choose which plan. My wife has "New rules of lifting for women" and likes it a lot. You don't need any fancy equipment because the moves are pretty basic. You could do the whole thing with some dumbells and a fitness ball. But if you have access to barbells, all the better. The best part about this book to me is, it doesn't just tell you what exercises to do, it lays out a very detailed plan. How much weight, how many reps and sets, in what order, even how long to rest in between sets. -
100 Pounds Down, 91 Pounds To Go.

Way to go. -
I'm glad for you. You can do the research yourself if you like. I have a great link in my sig that explains the same thing. The information is out there for anyone to find, I was just pointing it out. The fact that your stall broke is purely anecdotal. Being a lawyer, I know you are familiar with that concept. And not all of us are ignorant of nutritional concepts. Some of us have been overweight all our lives, and we've read everything there is about weightloss, exercise and nutrition and could probably put some nutritionists and personal trainers to shame. Where we have been lacking is having the will to use that knowledge. My NUT told me to drink those New whey Protein shots from Walmart. They are of no nutritional value whatsoever. That doesn't mean she is an idiot, it just means she was wrong about this one thing. I'm sure your nutritionist is also human and not perfect. You don't have to be so defensive against me, I was only trying to help and inform (not just you but everyone).

The 3 week stall has nothing to do with needing to up your calories, so drinking a milkshake did not break the stall. You drank a milkshake....and the stall happened to break, the 2 things are not related. The 3 week stall breaks when your glycogen stores are replenished, and not before.

Its Official!

Happy day. There is nothing better than telling people you've lost 100 pounds. Makes it terribly difficult for anyone to not be supportive of your surgery. -
So Annoyed
Butterthebean replied to angelofmercy36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's called the 3 week stall. Basically, once you start a reduced calorie diet your body starts burning glycogen for fuel because it's the most accessible fuel source. For every pound of glycogen you burn, you will use 4 pounds of Water weight as well. This accounts for everyone's initial and easy weight loss when they start a diet or have WLS. Once your body realizes that this calorie deficit is going to continue past the point of using all your glycogen stores, then it starts to burn fat. But at the same time it must refill your glycogen stores, along with that water weight which keeps the glycogen soluble. So at this point you are burning fat but adding water weight. If the fat loss does not outpace the water gain your weight will stall, but you are still burning fat. Once the glycogen and water weight have been restored, you will see the scale start to move again. -
2 Month Stall And Current Approaches
Butterthebean replied to Fiddleman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Read "New Rules of Lifting". There is one for women and one for men. Each book has several workout plans designed for different goals such as fat loss. Also, see the link in my sig. It has some good information about what causes stalls and some tips on breaking them. It sounds like you are doing alot of things right. I wouldn't worry too much about it at this point. Stalls come and go on there own without you having to do anything. People put alot of effort into "breaking" stalls when they should just stay the course. Now if you were a year post op, then yeah you might need to change things up. -
Doggy Bags And Leftovers....
Butterthebean replied to fattymcfatterson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't have an answer to your question, but not wasting food was one of the big things that got me here. I had to clean my plate. I filled up at free meals and buffets like I would never have access to food again. I had to change that way of thinking about food. Now I try to make it about the people and the gathering. -

Question About "i Don't Feel Full" Statements
Butterthebean replied to fattymcfatterson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told to never again eat till full. I realize it happens sometimes, but the point is to try to stop eating before that. Even now I sometimes surprise myself at the amount of food I can eat and not feel terribly full. But other days I feel it sooner. Eating too fast makes it harder to feel full until its too late. I know I eat too fast and always have. I also suspect that a large percentage of overweight people just aren't as attuned to the feeling of being "satisfied" as those naturally skinny people who never think about what they eat, but are skinny anyway. Eating (and overeating) can be a learned behavior just like walking and talking. That's why measuring food is so important for us. It takes the guess work out of the equation. Eating from an open container, like a bag of chips, is so dangerous because it's extremely hard to know how much you've eaten unless you're counting chips. I know I've eaten like this many times in my life and the only thing that stopped me was I got to the bottom of the bag. -
Obese After Sleeve?
Butterthebean replied to Sannah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
BMI is a useless number which was designed to categorize the masses and to chart obesity on a worldwide basis. Applying it to individuals who have drastically altered their weight (such as bodybuilders and WLS patients) gives inaccurate data. We can lose fat, but our bone structure will not change in any way. And the longer you have been overweight, the heavier your skeleton is likely to be. It grows over the years to accommodate the weight and size. -
Thanks. I kinda said the same thing about tucking in my shirt while wearing jeans....whatever weight I can do that and it look good, that is my goal weight.
-
Hey Mike. As has been said, you will not feel the restriction's full effect until you start on full solid foods. Secondly, you don't want to feel full ever again. Eat till you're no longer hungry, not till you're full. If you do that you will be successful.

Yard Work And Cutting The Grass
Butterthebean replied to chad2rad's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, earlier this year we bought a house in the country on 4 acres. I worked hard to get it ready and get moved in before my surgery. We moved in on 5/1....the same day I started my preop liquid diet. That was not fun. Then had my surgery 5/10. The day I came home from the hospital, my 82 year old neighbor had a huge oak tree fall on the fence I just built, and there wasn't a thing I could do about it at the time. After 3 weeks I felt well enough to get out there and start cutting it up. -
Macho Cheese Doritos
Butterthebean replied to Jr425's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have really enjoyed discovering my inner carnivore. Before surgery, starches had a grip on me. I ate them all the time, and I had to eat every 2 or 3 hours or my blood sugar would bottom out and I would feel awful. Funny, eating made me feel better immediately, but also made me feel worse overall. Bye bye starches. Nice knowing you. -
Krogers sells dehydrated mixed vegetable chips that are my preference to potato chips now. You can also buy them on nuts.com. They have some great dehydrated fruit and vegetables. Same rules still apply though, you cannot just mindlessly eat or they will sneak up on you. Some doctors don't mind you eating chips, but any chip made out of potatoes or corn (no matter if they are baked or not) are still empty calories. Plus they are a starches which have been shown to help your body store fat, raise insulin levels and increase appetite. Not preaching....just FYI.

Yard Work And Cutting The Grass
Butterthebean replied to chad2rad's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in Texas, so it's the same heat and humidity here. I was chain sawing 3 weeks post op, so I suppose I could have pushed a mower, but I have a zero turn. But the real answer is....listen to your own body. Take it slower than you'd like too. Ease into it. Take breaks, take your time. If you can, plan to do the front one day, back yard the next day if you still feel okay. I think getting back into these activities can go a long way to making you feel better after surgery, so long as you don't do too much too soon. -

What To Count? Calories, Carbs? What Is Most Effective?\
Butterthebean replied to browneyes72's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
In the mushy stage, I did have the occasional bowl of grits...yum yum. But since I've started on full foods, I've cut them out. So in the mushies stage I was getting my Protein from scrambled eggs and finely ground chili.
