Foods You Definitely Can't Eat Early On?

The eggs are good because of the protein. Purée some boiled eggs with some mustard and pickles and you've got egg salad. -
Foods You Definitely Can't Eat Early On?
Butterthebean replied to Mrtiger1's topic in Food and Nutrition
I didn't have a puréed stage so this is just wild guesses, but I would stay away from anything with too much sugar, spicy foods, heavy fibrous foods, and fatty foods. I'd also go real slow on dairy like eggs and cheese until you are sure you can tolerate them. If it were me I'd be purreeing chili or beef stew....stuff with Protein. -
Reason Why No Food For 3 Weeks & Update

That's some great information. I hope everyone reads it and takes it to heart. It would answer a lot of the questions that get asked around here. -
Today Is My One Year Surgiversary...
Butterthebean replied to Lissa's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
You are looking good and I know you are feeling so much better. Way to go. -
The process that initiates the 3 week stall will start when you start a calorie restrictive diet. So if you had a very restrictive preop diet, that started the process of burning your glycogen stores. As for the "3 weeks"....it could be give or take a week or 2. It's not the same for everyone. You may have burned through your glycogen stores faster than other people and now your body is refilling those stores, which is what causes the stall.

Never even heard of such a thing before in my life. But I was at a flea market today and this lady was making some so we bought a piece. I ate a tiny little bite and yes, it tasted exactly how it sounds. If you like chocolate (yes) and you like bacon (yes yes) it's good. In my past life I would have bought every piece she had, but I took my little bite and got out of there. Went home and grilled some stuffed jalapeños with shrimp and fat free cream cheese....yum yum. Also had a couple of bites of veggie chips and homemade guacamole. I love it that I can eat sensibly and still enjoy it.

Problem, Help! Not Full.
Butterthebean replied to Mrtiger1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't worry. I was in the exact same boat. By day 3 I was having no problem getting in 64oz of Water plus 2 Protein shakes a day. By the end of week 1 I think I could eat a pudding cup. Right now there are days where I feel like I can eat way too much. I eat 1250 calories a day, and I've eaten as many as 1500 a day or 2, and I'm almost 4 months post op. But still something must be working because I've lost 113 pounds. To me, it just means I need to eat the right things as much as possible because I don't have as much restriction as some people seem to have. But I don't mind. I was feeling great by 3 weeks out and still do. I'm eating right and exercising every day and the weight is still coming off. BTW, don't try to eat till your full. It's a bad habit to get into. It's a habit a lot of us probably had prior to surgery. -
I figured, I'm about to have surgery and lose all this weight so WTF. I ate everything in sight.

Not to be pessimistic, but anything you read on this topic is going to be extremely anecdotal. A person could say they did this or that and had no loose skin, but they have no idea if they would have had loose skin regardless. Some people do absolutely nothing and still have no loose skin, some people try some of everything but still get it. Building muscle will at least help fill out loose skin to a certain degree, but it's going to have to be a full body routine. There is no one muscle group you should focus on. And even then, there is only so much muscle you can build on a reduced calorie diet.

I Can Eat Too Much!
Butterthebean replied to mikesange's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My God man....You are not supposed to eat till you feel full!!!! That's what got you here. You are clearly suffering from buyer's remorse. We all do at some point after surgery. Mine only lasted 5 minutes but some have it much longer. But those people usually have leaks and other major medical complications. You're only problem seems to be a lack of committment. Buckle down and follow your plan. You do not need to feel full and vomit up everything you eat. You need to eat sensibly untill you are no longer hungry, then stop and go exercise. It will work if you stop fretting and being so pessimistic. Sorry to be so harsh but this isn't the first one of these posts you've made. Did your doctor or NUT give you a food plan? If so follow it please. It will work. -
If you're running on the treadmill, consider downloading one of the many C25K apps and following that running program. I have "Ease Into 5K" but there are several different apps. Basically you start the app, and it tells you when to run and when to walk. You start out mostly walking but every week the running increases slightly and the walking decreases. It's a well laid out plan and you don't have to think about. I can listen to my music on the Iphone even while the app is running. I like it alot.

Yep...I'm actually in Tarkington Prairie if you know where that is....tiny little fly spot between Cleveland and Dayton.

Couldnt Do Surgery-Liver Size
Butterthebean replied to SlevieNicks's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is kinda funny because most doctors are like this, they won't even chance it if your liver isn't small enough. And yet there are doctors who do not even require a pre-op diet. How they do that I have no idea. -
My Fitness Pal Great Way To Track Progress
Butterthebean replied to SecretSleeveFL's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I used to use fitday and really liked it. The only reason I switched to My Fitness Pal was because of the Iphone App...being able to scan barcode labels instead of having to manually enter that food is a big time saver. Can you do that with Fitday now? If not, I'm sure it's just a matter of time. -
Just north of Houston near Cleveland. How could there not be plenty of Houston sleevers? We are a pretty out of shape city. It's too hot for most people to exercise.

Why? Lifting weights will help burn fat and make you feel great. Do you have access to a pool? Also, a couple of my coworkers do cross fit and they love it.

Help Me! 90Lbs In 6Months
Butterthebean replied to gingersnap's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm eating 1250 calories a day per doctors orders and I've lost 112 lbs in just a little under 4 months. I do eat carbs but not starches, fried food or Desserts, and I exercise everyday. But the thing is everyone loses at their own pace. You can't dictate how fast your body is going to burn the fat. The point of this whole thing for me is to be healthy. The numbers on the scale are just a byproduct of that. I could just shoot for a certain number but I would not be as healthy. Plus a fit physique always looks better than an emaciated physique. If by January you look good and feel better about yourself it won't matter what the scale says. -

Stall
Butterthebean replied to Heidi Wilson Hooper's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There's a link in my sig to a good article that explains your 3 week stall and why it's happening. The 3 week stall is about glycogen and water being restored back into your muscles after your initial weight loss. You're still losing fat, but you're storing water and that makes the scale freeze. Keeping your measurements will show that you are still making progress. Keep doing what's you're doing and the scale will soon start moving again. -
My wife has a great book called "New Rules of Lifting For Women". It's one of a series of weightlifting books. Very detailed. If I recall, it pretty much lays out the workout program for you including how to lift, how much weight, how many sets, reps and even how much time to rest in between. It's simple and basic, perfect for someone just starting out.

Last Day Before Pre Op Diet
Butterthebean replied to beefalogal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck. The preop is challenging, but it leads to better things.
