Chia Seed Users - Step On In...
Butterthebean replied to MarKing15's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They are better if you don't. Makes a nice tapioca texture that way. You never have to pre soak them, just make sure you have plenty of Water in your system or drink some shortly after eating the seeds because they will be looking for some water to absorb. The only substance that I've found that I like them presoaked in is OJ. But I can't drink OJ more than once a week so I don't usually bother. Pre soaking them in water makes a gel that is akin to clear dirt jelly. I can think of no better way to describe it. I did not care for it at all. -

Chia Seed Users - Step On In...
Butterthebean replied to MarKing15's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I put them in my Protein shakes all the time. Yes some will not make it out of the glass but most do. I just compensate for that by adding a few extra. I also drink my shake as quickly as I can before they have a chance to gel up and become stickier. I also put them in SF pudding cups and on my salads. -
Whey Liquid Protein Shots - Which Are Best

Because of another thread, I ventured over to that site to do a little reading. Whoa do they look down on the sleeve. I realize they believe in the lap band, but they talk about the sleeve like it is the kiss of death, and the only reason anybody gets the sleeve is because they are too impatient to wait for the slower weight loss of the Lapland. Like slower weight loss is some kind of advantage. They also talk about how they are not willing to do something so drastic like cut out 85% of their "healthy" stomach. Personally I don't miss that 85%. I'm eating just fine, haven't been sick in the least. Anyway, not to put them down, just thought it was such a different vibe.

It gets easier....in about 6 years. J/K....at this point, it's still work for me. But you get much better and much more efficient at it so it's not a big deal. If I didn't think about it or put any effort into it, I would go back to eating the way I did before.

Whey Liquid Protein Shots - Which Are Best
Butterthebean replied to Shape_Shifter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should be consuming whey Protein, but the protein shots don't actually contain any whey in them, at least none of the ones I've seen. They have "whey" in the name but if you read the ingredients they will have some other type of protein....usually casein or some proprietary blend that doesn't contain enough whey to make a difference. Whey protein should be the first ingredient on the package if you are wanting whey protein. Again, unless there is some brand I'm not aware of. Check the ingredients to be sure. -
How far post op are you? In the beginning yes you will be eating and drinking all the time. By the time you get to full foods it should ease up some. But the drinking, if you mean Water, doesn't count. I still have days where it seems I spend all day going from one meal, to the next bottle of water, to the next meal. That's not grazing. Grazing is constantly grabbing a handful of this or that between meals. If you eat your Protein properly, then wait 30 minutes before drinking, you should not be hungry for a while. For me it's 3 hours or so. So during that 3 hours I will drink water. By the time I'm finished drinking and wait 30 minutes, it's time to eat again (or drink a shake). The biggest problem with grazing is you lose count of what you're eating because it's hard to log every single small bite you grab to eat. And since you never get satisfied, you keep grabbing for the next food item. For me, eating 3-4 oz of protein satisfies me. A hand full of nuts or a bite of cheese really does not.

Whey Liquid Protein Shots - Which Are Best
Butterthebean replied to Shape_Shifter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As far as I know, even the ones that say "whey" in the name of the shot contain no actual whey protein in them. They are of no nutritional value. The protein will not help you. Don't drink them. Even my NUT didn't know this. -
Yep, that is one of the threads I remember vividly. But I stayed out of it. One thing I noticed, their band to something else revision forum is just as active as ours. A lot of people like the fact that the band is reversible. I guess it is a good thing when there is such a high likelihood of needing to remove it after the first year.

No way. I'm not in any pain right now. But if I did that I'm sure I would be. If I start having gall bladder attacks I might consider it. -
So I was walking my dog the other day and......say that reminds me. Does anyone have a recipe for high Protein, non-carbonated beer? Wait.....I hope you didn't get another notification. Sorry.

If I have more than 10 stones in my poop I'm not counting them. -
I agree with you, but people are lining up to die for their religion more than anything else. Besides, when I hear the words "organized religion"...I don't think God...I think about people. People make religions, and then they ask other people to lay down their life or kill for it.

Have You Lost Friendships/relationships Since Weight Loss?
Butterthebean replied to N/A's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You say she doesn't have a weight problem, but I've seen women who looked perfect, but in their mind they were 5 pounds overweight and it may as well have been 50 pounds. She may be hating that 5 pounds that she can't lose and resentful that you're losing weight so easily. I really have no idea but I'm just throwing that out there. I know my wife is struggling the hard way to lose weight right now, and I'm trying not to Celebrate my weight loss too much in front of her because I don't want her to feel bad. I'm trying to remember how hard it is to lose weight without the sleeve. It can be frustrating. -
Have You Lost Friendships/relationships Since Weight Loss?
Butterthebean replied to N/A's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My wife has been super supportive. When I started my 10 day pre-op diet she said she was only going to eat what I ate. She's been mostly sticking to that ever since, and she's lost about 25 pounds since my surgery. But one day I was taking out the trash, and when I pulled the garbage bag out of the trash can, I could see an empty doritos bag down inside the garbage bag. I never told her I saw it....she's been so great and I appreciated that she didn't eat them in front of me. I'm trying hard not to take her support for granted. I spend way more time exercising and thinking about what I'm going to eat, and that takes time away from me and her. The good thing is we can workout together sometimes because we both enjoy cycling and hiking. And I've taken up jogging which she was already into. I think getting healthy together has made us stronger....I hope. -
I only see them on the full website...not on the mobile app. And they are right there underneath your avitar picture. Maybe I just need to clean my monitor. At what age does glaucoma kick in?

Need Some Help Figuring This Out, Please...
Butterthebean replied to babzmcgee's topic in Food and Nutrition
I think having a personal trainer and nutritionist come on here every so often would be great. I don't know if I'd want to marry one though...that could be a blessing and a curse. I oughta know...I married a psychologist. That's no picnic. -
I would so love that.

Need Some Help Figuring This Out, Please...
Butterthebean replied to babzmcgee's topic in Food and Nutrition
I would like to hear more about this because I exercise alot, but I work shift work so my schedule changes every 3 or 4 days. Sometimes I workout at the end of the day, sometimes first thing in the morning. Sometimes it's midnight. When it's morning, the only thing I usually have in me is a 120 calorie Protein shake. Maybe 2 fig newtons if it's gonna be a long exercise. Plus plenty of Water. I will drink 24-30 oz before I ever start.
