What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back"
Butterthebean replied to bigjoe102's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It wasn't the final straw, but I was always a big fan of John Candy. When he died at 44, that was scary. And it got scarier as I approached 44. I'm 43 now, and I kinda feel like I'm averting that tragedy for myself. -

I believe I read previously that excessive Protein is not a problem unless your kidney function is already compromised. However if you ingest too much in one sitting it cannot be absorbed and is therefore wasted. The actual numbers on this vary wildly and also depend on the type of protein you're ingesting. My NUT made the recommendation that I keep each meal at 30 grams or below, in order to maximize all of the protein.

Stupid Carb Question.
Butterthebean replied to ljperez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I won't tell you to go against your nut, but yes, more low glycemic carbs will give you more sustained energy. Hi glycemic carbs give you the quick burst of energy. If you're exercising a lot it's very difficult to get through the day on low carbs. -
Surgery And Recovery Alone
Butterthebean replied to chad2rad's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry Chad. Unless you have some major complications, physically you should be fine alone. But emotionally, no one can answer that. I hope you have friends and loved ones who will at least check on you. Best of luck. There is never a good time for something like this to happen, but this is an exceptionally bad time. I hope you're able to reconcile. -
Stupid Carb Question.
Butterthebean replied to ljperez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't really count my carbs. Here's the rule I was taught. One gram of Protein for every ten calories you eat. Divide the rest of the calories you eat into a relatively even number of low glycemic carbs (green veggies) and healthy fats (nuts, avocado). So, for a 600 calorie a day diet, that would mean 60 grams of protein, 28 grams of carbs and 28 grams of fat (approximately, I'm doing the math in my head). For 800 calorie a day diet, it's 80 grams of protein and 38 carbs and 38 fats. With that formula, and eating the right carbs (not starches) you can't go wrong. You will have enough protein but also enough energy to get you through the day. I tend to overshoot the protein by 10% or so. But I have been lifting weights so I need more. Again, this is just the strategy that I follow and it has worked well, there are certainly other ways. -
Checking On May Sleevers! Whats Your Progress?
Butterthebean replied to 803Misty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm afraid I can't be much help there. I tend to eat the same things day after day. How was the same way before surgery, but I wasn't eating healthy then. -

] I just realized we were sleeved on the same day. A day I will not forget. Down 125 pounds and becoming an exercise junkie. -
Pcp Doesn't Recommend Surgery
Butterthebean replied to TaraBugz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds like your doctor is referring to Gastric Bypass and not the sleeve. Very difficult to get malnutrition with the sleeve, and even more difficult to stretch. And the mortality rate for VGS is about the same as knee surgery. Some doctors are just not very up to date on every possible medical issue....who possibly could be? -
The Things Some People Will Say
Butterthebean replied to liz32's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well said. That pretty much sums it up for me too. I don't care what anyone says. Everyone I know, knows this. I do not suffer fools very well. My friends and coworkers know if they confront me, they better be prepared to be challenged because I will stand my ground. Honestly, I think people make too much of this issue. You may hear some fool tell you something, but you won't hear any more negativity than you otherwise would going through life obese. -
Hard Excersize With Little Calories
Butterthebean replied to bubles089's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Before I workout now, I force myself to drink a liter of Water. You may not be able to drink that much, but you should drink down as much as you can. Get fully hydrated or your workout is over before it gets started. Also, working out without eating any carbs is difficult. A few simple carbs right before a workout will go a long way. It doesn't take much. In my old life I would chow down on 15 fig newtons before a bike ride. Now 2 will suffice, but if I don't eat them I get weak about 30 minutes in. Recently I've replaced the fig newtons with these "energy squares" that I buy online. It's basically just a little brownie type thing made of dried fruit and seeds. If you're going the full no carb route....it will just take some getting used to. I personally don't like having ZERO carbs, but it certainly can be effective. -
I just got my first Android phone, the Samsung Galaxy S 3. This is my first experience with the Android app and I'm still getting used to it. I know on the iPhone app you could touch a post and see the members sig. It doesn't seem to work the same way with the Android app. how do you look at peoples sig? Also, why can't I see anyones avatar including mine?

Feeling Hungary More Often
Butterthebean replied to katrina81's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cece, most people don't eat burgers in the second week. As for your weight stalling that's perfectly normal. There's a link in my sig about stalls. It might help explain where you're at right now. Plus, everyone experiences head hunger in the second week. Well not everyone but a lot of people. -

3 Months Post Op And I'm Eating Too Much....

Pasta....why are you eating pasta? That's half the problem. Eat the meatballs instead. -
I second the Water aerobics. If I were in your situation, I wouldn't hesitate to be in the pool everyday. You can do water walking and aerobics one day, swim the next. Also google chair aerobics. There are chair aerobics DVDs out there, mainly targeted at people who are in wheelchairs, and elderly people. It's just what it sounds like, a low impact workout from a seated position. Best of luck to you.

My Advice To All Newly Post-Op Sleevers...
Butterthebean replied to JimmyGotSLEEVED's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Hey Jimmy, I've got a question. I've been doing some circuit type training lately and loving it. I made a post about my routine the other day. Basically some lifting and short runs between sets. Now I've changed my routine quite a bit. This week I've been doing the following.... Barbell clean and press - sets of 21/15/11/7/4 with 3 minutes on the elliptical between sets. No rest and each circuit on the elliptical at a higher level of difficulty than the last. Afterward I did 3 circuits of 10 push ups, 10 modified pull ups, 10 crunches and a 200 yard run. Again with no rest till the end. My question is, on the elliptical and the runs, should I be going all out or at the pace I would use if I was going to be on there for 45 minutes.....or in between? To every one else, circuit training or crossfit is a great workout. It doesn't take long and the time flies by. You will not get bored and because you are changing up the workout so frequently, your body will not adapt...making stalls less likely. -

Is The Band That Bad?
Butterthebean replied to SleeveandRNYchica's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
To me, head hunger is just food withdrawals. Many addicts feel withdrawal if they try to give up their addiction. It doesn't matter what the addiction is, withdrawal symptoms manifest themselves physically. Anyone who has ever tried to quit another addiction can attest to how strong those urges can be. The thing about food withdrawal is it mimics real hunger.
