    Gained 5Lbs Wth?

I feel you. We all do. But do you want the weight gone, or the fat? Weight loss doesn't really matter, fat loss does. You know it's not fat gain so don't stress about it. It will happen but there will be ups and downs.

This does not sound like fun. Hope it gets better soon.

    Old Ways Omg

A lot of doctors and nuts say the same thing about the straws, but I haven't seen one person on this forum or met one sleever in real life who ever had a problem with drinking from a straw. Sometimes they take a general rule that applies to one particular surgery (like the lapband) and apply it across the board to all surgeries just to cover their asses. Other times, there may have been one lawsuit or horror story where someone killed themself with a straw so some big doctor decided it would be wise if no one used straws ever again, and the rest of the doctors went along with that rather than questioning it.

It's not fat. It's water retention and lack of BMs. You have not eaten enough to put back on that amount of fat. Knocking down your calories will make it worse. You're letting your frustration with the scale override your sense of reason. This is why people say to not weigh yourself too often. Patience is a virtue here. Just stick to your plan. Increase your fluid intake. Decrease salt.

    Plateau- What's Your Longest?

I believe it's 5.1.1 but I have not upgraded to the new IOS which came out a few weeks ago. It worked much better on 4.2.1 I hate to think how much worse it would get if I upgraded it again. I don't even use it anymore except as an iPod. Edit.....it's a 3GS.

    Crossfit

I looked into it but never joined because of the cost. But I've been putting together my own circuit/crossfit workouts at home and I really enjoy them. Super effective workout and you don't get bored.

Zone bars were the ones I really liked and had to give up. Taste way to much like a candy bar.

A lot of people here really like the quest bars. I've ordered some but haven't tried them yet. The numbers don't look too bad though.

You can start calling people fatso and make ugly references about obese people and your account will disappear real quick. It's already happened once today.

When Can You Start Bike Riding?

Must haves.... Lights!!! A good headlight is great, even in the daytime. But good flashing taillight is mandatory. More than one is even better. I have one on my bike and one on the back of my helmet. I also have a headlight on the front of my helmet. The next thing is clothes. Don't try to dress like lance Armstrong. Dress for the weather. If you live in DC I imagine it gets cold. Dress warm enough but also in the lightest most reflective clothes you can find. They make reflective clothing for runners that really works well. If you're gonna ride in the rain, you need clothes for that. In the heat, you need breathable clothing that will dry while you work. I love the play dry reebok stuff, plus they make it in big and tall sizes. Water proof shoes if the roads are wet. When it's warm enough, I ride in tevas. The other thing you need is a way to carry your stuff...work clothes, lunch, whatever. Back packs work fine, but they get old real quick. They get heavy and hot. Bicycle panniers are great but you need a rack that is made to carry them. Even an old fashion front basket can work. Other things that you might think about are good gloves (they don't have to be cycling gloves, weight lifting gloves work). Also, you need to learn how to fix a flat and carry the things you need to do it with you. A spare tube or Patches (I hate patches), a small pump or preferably a couple of CO2 cartridges and inflator. Tire levers. And if your wheel bolts on you need a wrench. Most bikes these days not sold at Walmart just use a wheel skewers so you don't need a wrench. Also a good bicycle multitool in case something comes loose. And a water bottle. That's all that comes to mind at the moment. Sorry for the thread jack.

What Can I Look Forward Too? :)

Yes I had the surgery. I was being overly sarcastic. Here's what else you can look forward to.... Not recognizing yourself in the mirror Others not recognizing you Saving a fortune on fast food (I pretty much lived on the "drive thru window" diet) Buying smaller clothes Throwing those out and buying even smaller clothes Getting your wedding ring resized because its falling off Tying your shoes without passing out from holding your breath Seeing your hoo-hoo without a mirror Skinny sex More skinny sex Sitting in a restaurant booth Having the room to wiggle around in chairs Having to buy padded toilet seats because you lose your natural padding Hearing the question "how did you lose the weight?" 5 million times Being able to wear "one size fits all" garments Did I mention skinny sex?

When Can You Start Bike Riding?

Manhattan...that's awesome. There must be quite a few bike commuters there. Here (Houston), I feel like I'm the only one. When I rode to work, my coworkers thought I was nuts. They could not wrap there minds around the idea of using anything other than a car to get to work. They couldn't wait to tell me how it was just a matter of time before I got killed. Even though I had a very carefully planned route, lights, reflective clothing, and I always ride like I'm invisible. Still, people here don't get it. How I would love to live in a place where there were enough cyclists that the cars at least had to acknowledge you. Here, the only acknowledgement I get is when they yell and flip me off because I delayed their trip 3 seconds. And now that I live in the country, there are way less cars, but WAY more dogs. Let me know how the commuting goes once you start back.

When Can You Start Bike Riding?

Glad to see another bicycle commuter on here. I thought I was the only one. I rode to work several times a week for many years. Earlier this year I moved way out of town in the country. It's nice having a few acres but I can no longer ride to work (50 miles). I still ride regularly though. I think I started riding very gingerly about 4 weeks out...maybe 5 miles. Slowly started picking it up at 6 weeks. But I felt great. Listen to your body. Don't push yourself. You will really test those ab muscles cycling so be sure they are healed.

    Drinking Too Fast

Everybody can eat and drink at different rates. If you're not feeling discomfort, you're doing fine. Just don't try to push yourself this early.
