How Many People Eat How Their Nutritionists Want?
Butterthebean replied to pandabear's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some NUTs are nutty. And some don't differentiate between what a bypass patient needs, vs. a lapband patient, vs. a sleeve patient. That being said....my NUT changed my way of thinking about food...and thusly, my life. She did not villianize food, but she showed me all the mistakes I was making. She didn't just tell me, she gave me homework. I had to read several books, even had to download a movie on Itunes and watch it. Tough work, I know...but when it was all said and done, I learned a heckuva lot about food and the effects it was having on my body. And that was what she wanted, not to give me a list of foods to eat or don't eat, but to help me understand the benefits and consequences of each piece of food I might eat so that I could make better decisions. Once you know how some of these foods affect your body, they kinda become a turn off. -
Lossing Too Much Of The Wrong Thing

The one thing about the protein, you may still be losing hair, but it would be worse without it. I can't really say about the biotin. -
Tell me about it...the bike in my avitar is a Surly Ogre. Great clyde-friendly bike, as long as you build or invest in some good wheels. Do you ever venture over to bikeforums.net? They have a pretty good clydesdale/athena forum.

It's funny, if you read the banned member's other posts from other threads....seems like a real nice guy. It's almost as if his teenage kid came home that day, logged on here under his logon, then proceeded to get his daddy banned. Wouldn't that have made for a fun scene when daddy got home? -

Do You Still Look Forward To Food Or Enjoy It?
Butterthebean replied to Bryan Whitson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All I can say is, for me food is fuel, not entertainment or enjoyment. I don't hate food, but I have other things I do for fun and excitement. Food just allows me to do those things. I ran 2-1/2 miles the other night without stopping. 5 months ago I couldn't run around the driveway. That is way more fun than any meal I ever had. As for caffeine, sure you can go back to it but why would you want to? Once you break your addiction, why start a new one? -
Old Ways Omg

In fact in the article you posted it states "less hungry" as one of the benefits of eating 5 times a day. I thought you said we were more hungry. Perhaps you just mixed it up while typing. I do it all the time. -

I agree with eating 5 or more times a day, just not that it makes you hungry. In fact I'm less hungry, but I really think it has to do more with the types of food I'm eating. If I ate French fries 5 times a day I would be more hungry than I am now and I doubt I would lose any weight. I eat protein 5 times a day and that prevents me from feeling as hungry. Plus I am losing weight. -

Actually, eating high glycemic foods cause the release of high amounts of insulin which not only inhibit fat loss but also increase hunger. -
Does Anyone Know The Limit On Carbs?
Butterthebean replied to mrsdaugherty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm just over 5 months out as well. I agree with your plan to raise your calories slightly. Being that active, you can and should eat more. As for carbs, consider the types of carbs you're eating. If you're eating green vegetables, I don't think you can eat too many, so long as you're getting in your Protein. But be very careful with the starches (pasta, bread, potatoes, rice). These foods do you no favors, and they inhibit your ability to burn fat. Speaking of protein, how much do you take in? My goal is 1 gram per 10 calories. So 800 calories per day would be 80 grams of protein.....easy. Carbs can be a double edged sword. But the right kind of carbs, the low glycemic carbs (green veggies), will fill you up with very few calories, keep your blood sugar levels low which helps fat burning, and give you sustained consistent energy throughout the day which will allow you to expend more energy and thus burn more fat. It's hard to burn fat on an empty tank. -

Well, there you go. That will teach me to use words like "never" and "always". I should have been more careful. Sorry about that. -

Am I Loosing Fast Enough? (Got The Sleeve At 154#)
Butterthebean replied to vssupermodel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Coronary artery disease....and ironically the surgery she was having was abdominoplasty and breast reduction. Apparently one doctor refused to do the surgery because she was considered high risk due to her health issues, but she found another doctor who would do it, and died as a result. Following this, the Governator himself passed the Donda West law stating something about requiring medical clearance for elective surgeries in California....at least, according to Wikipedia. -
My favorites were scrambled eggs and finely ground homemade chili.

Gives me the quivers just thinking about them. For anyone that missed it' date=' here's a family sized bag of lays potato chips crunched up into a measuring cup. This is how easily it would fit in your sleeve...probably easier because if you chewed it up the saliva and stomach acids would break it down much further. -

Did your doctor prescribe you any pain meds? Nothing wrong with taking them, but walking now will make you feel much better in a few days. -

Friends- Can We Really Keep Them?
Butterthebean replied to O.T.R. sleever's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I've been on many different forums for different interests, and many of them have Meet and Greets. Everybody agrees to a weekend and a place and they just get together. On one of my motorcycle forums, people came from all over the country 2 or 3 times a year. Of course, they got together to ride. I don't know what we'd get together for....maybe we could all run a 5K together. -

This is also highly debatable. The sleeve doesnt teach you anything. It certainly doesnt stop you from eating junk food nor does it guarantee you will lose weight or be healthier. -
Just out of curiosity, what kinds of foods are you making that you can't identify?
