I thought they "jelled" in any liquid. Maybe not. Never tried milk but I have jelled them in juice before with no problem. My other thought is, they do not have to be jelled to drink them. They have a nice crunchy texture that way.

All I can say is any meal that has more carbs than protein should be predominantly low glycemic carbs. This isn't.

Is It Ikay Not To Tell Anyone About My Little Secret?
Butterthebean replied to iris26's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told everyone and I'm glad I did. I never solicited anyone's opinion about it except my wife. I've educated a few people about the true complications of WLS, most people's "common knowledge" is way off. I never heard a single negative comment, although I did see a few people biting their tongues. But thats okay, they don't have to agree with what I'm doing. -
12/6/2010 2 Years Ago Today . . .
Butterthebean replied to Rootman's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Rootman, from the time I first ventured onto this site you were one of the members that really inspired me. I saw your success and it helped me believe I could do it too. I'm glad you're here spreading the good word. -
Whatever type of ice cream you get, I suggest buying child size prepackaged containers because ice cream is the textbook definition of a slider food. The average sleeve isn't going to feel much restriction eating it.

Sorry To Ask But........
Butterthebean replied to nichole33's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do not ask questions like this. You are just asking for trouble. Your loss will be different from everyone else. There is no average. You will lose whatever your body loses. You can either view that as success or failure, but it won't change your weight loss. Follow your docs plan and you will do fine. -

A very good point. As I said, I really like Mark Rippetoe's plan. I basically follow it when I want to improve strength. If you never have check out the New Rules Of Lifting books. They are also very basic but effective. The workouts are based on the popular lifting sequence of a push, pull, squat, lunge and twist. It's sequence has been used very successfully in the crossfit routines as well as many met training routines. The books also lay out a very simple and easy to follow plan for beginners. It's why I like them so much for many people here. There seem to be many people here who do not have a lot of experience with resistance training. My one knock on Starting Strength is that Mr. Rippetoe is so precise and detailed with his form and technique. While that's good, it's very difficult for a new, novice lifter to do unless they have some coaching. While people who have many years of lifting experience have less trouble with the technique.

I was allowed cream of wheat on my post op full liquid diet but not the pre op liquid diet. It has too many carbs to help shrink your liver. -

I dig the goatee. -
The first pic was taken last year somewhere in Oregon. I was over 400 lbs. The second was today...248 lbs. either way I've got my trusty sidekicks Wrigley and Junior. It's been great and I could not be happier about the results. There have been some tough times but nothing that wasn't worth it. I've followed a pretty basic and simple plan. Eat as much protein as I can. Workout every day, and mix it up. I don't do the same thing 2 days in a row. Make it fun. Drink as much water as I can. Stay away from things that are going to tempt me. And if I have a bad day, or miss a workout or eat something I shouldn't, I don't feel bad. If I stall for a week....or 4....no problem. I still do what I need to do day in and day out. Eventually good things will happen. I'm healthier than I ever thought possible. I got life by the tail.

I really like the previously recommended book "Starting Strength" by Mark Rippetoe. But I do not think it is for every one here. In fact, it's probably not for many people here. It was really designed for young aspiring athletes. If you want to get into resistance training but have no idea where to start, a better book is "New Rules of Lifting." There is also a "New Rules of Lifting For Women" for the ladies. Very good instruction and well laid out but simple workout plans for beginners.

That's awesome Gman. I love running, suddenly. I'm reading a book called "Running With The Kenyans." They talk about their training method called "fartlek." It's basically running intervals. Sprint a minute, jog a minute. Of course, they do it at 8000 feet elevation. No thanks.

How To Tracking Water Intake? Sipping Protein Post-Op Grazing?
Butterthebean replied to lilac lass's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Grazing is eating BETWEEN meals. If your meals take hours, like they can right after surgery, that's not a problem. Grazing is something that will likely not be a problem until you are all healed up and eating solid food later on down the line. When you can eat your meals, and still go back for more, then watch out for grazing. -

Five Days Post Op & Starving!
Butterthebean replied to vanessabalderas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most of the time, at your stage, it's not real honest to goodness hunger. Your stomach has just been drugged and mutilated. It doesn't want food, but your head still does. I didn't really know what head hunger was until that first week after surgery. The second week was even worse. But by the time I started eating solid food again, it was gone and I felt better. Also, many people have excessive stomach acid after surgery, and as a cruel twist of fate, it can feel just like hunger. Your doctor can give you a PPI to calm that down.
