Not Telling People....
Butterthebean replied to JPSnAZ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

I thought those first 2 weeks were the worst because I wanted to eat something so bad. As soon as I got off liquids and started eating soft foods I felt tons better.

What kind of world is this? I'm all for getting family support but if you have none, or the family isn't behind you that should prevent you from getting life saving surgery.

They will do it. But they may give you a Man-O-lantern so be careful.

I don't like protein shakes but I like this...
Butterthebean replied to Eclectic82's topic in Food and Nutrition
That product contains hydrolyzed collagen which is of no nutritional value to you post sleeve surgery. You need whey protein if at all possible. -
You will love it. One tip....go find some hills to ride. Where I live is flat as a pancake. I have to drive an hour to find good hills. It's worth it to train on though because at least 100 of those miles will be hilly. We sometimes went to a parking garage in the medical center on the weekends and rode up and down it as many times as we could stand it.

Egg beaters are quick and easy to make for breakfast. I add some chopped up chicken to mine, plus some chopped bell peppers and maybe mushrooms for a little omelette. They will also cook in a bowl in the microwave. I also want to add, if you add chia seeds to your Protein shakes and let them sit and gel for 30 minutes or so they get a lot thicker and are much more filling. The shake will keep you satisfied much longer. Not to mention it helps tremendously with regularity issues.

Hey Shane. Man I would but I'm going to be hiking the Grand Canyon the week before. But I have ridden that ride 3 times and it's a blast. It's just so crowded now. 13000 riders is too many for me. The last couple of years we started riding the Valero MS150 that goes from San Antonio to New Braunsfels and back. I think they usually have about 3500 riders, and the route is great because you begin and end in the same place. We didn't do it this year but we are doing next year for sure. Best of luck and enjoy the ride.

Not Telling People....
Butterthebean replied to JPSnAZ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Fishy, I think your anger has gotten the better of you now. You should take a time out. I agree with your point about being honest, but this style of attacking people will get you no where. And calling people "fat" on a weight loss forum is the epitome of poor taste. You don't have to agree with people but have some respect. -
Judy, I am going to get one after the first of the year and start making green shakes every day. I need more veggies and that's the only way I'm going to take them in.
-
The seeds will definitely soak up every bit of water they can find in your system, unless you let them gel beforehand. I put them in my Protein shakes and let them sit for 1/2 hour before drinking. It leaves me feeling full much longer and it doesn't dry me out.

I've always thought this as well. I try to help people all the time, but I have run up on this attitude more than once. Alot of people on the liquid diet, whether they are preop or post op, are hungry and sensitive. It's a crazy time, those few weeks. Weird things are happening inside one's body. All those hormones are being released that have been stored up for a long time. I've had people want to yank out my eyes right through the internet, then the next day they are adding me to their "friends" list.

The truth is....
Butterthebean replied to chitowngirl's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I totally relate. I was bigger than I thought I was....way bigger. Now I am skinnier than I think I am. I turned sideways the other day to "squeeze" through 2 fence posts and I missed them both by a mile. There was room for 2 of me in there but I didn't think there was going to be. The other day a friend asked me why I was still walking like a fat guy. I didn't think I was. In my mind's eye I am as graceful as a swan. LOL -
Looking For Sleevers Who Did The Sleeve Bootcamp Or Pouch Test
Butterthebean replied to yoshikitty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I did the 5 day pouch test. I lost 4-5 pounds and broke a stall. The main thing about the pouch test is it just breaks your routine. Most of us start out very strict after surgery, but bad habits can and do creep back in our lives. But they creep back in so slowly as to not be noticed. The pouch test basically takes you back to that strict regimen for a few days and breaks those habits. -
What were your favorites during the soft food stage?
Butterthebean replied to lucky8mb1's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I practically lived off of scrambled eggs, egg salad and finely ground chilli. All high in protein. I also had a bowl or 3 of oatmeal during that time. -
Rootman you handled ourself appropriately. There are some very insecure people out there who feel the need to prove that they are braver than they really are.

Man I could have written this myself. I've read many a post here where someone said something like "if I had that kind of will power I wouldn't have needed surgery." Well, none of us had it. But during those first few months you can learn new behaviors that will stick with you the rest of your life. It doesn't really take will power initially, just the effort. The honeymoon phase makes it easier. By the time that's over with, the new behaviors should be ingrained enough that you can carry on with a new lifestyle, free from food obsessions.

6 months post op and oh so very stalled
Butterthebean replied to DuranFan1969's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, we go through 2 rotisserie chickens a week. They are good and cheap. -
Gallstone prevention
Butterthebean replied to PetraLuxor's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took ursodiol. My surgeon prescribed it starting at about 2 weeks out. I just got off of it finally. No gallstone issues thankfully. -
From what I understand it turns anything and everthing to liquid. I read about a guy liquifying an avocado pit. I'm thinking about using one to make some "green" protein shakes, to get some nutrients that I can't get from chicken, beef and cheese (which makes up alot of what I eat).

64 ounces of water and 60 grams of Protein - Are you kidding?
Butterthebean replied to GraceAbounds's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you have to choose between protein and water, choose the water. It's way way way more important. Very soon it will not be a problem getting both in.
