    Baton Rouge Area Sleevers!

Yeah, I missed the Christmas lights in Natchitoches the last 2 years...I normally get over there to see them and the fireworks. My uncle has a huge farm up around Winnsboro, if you know where that is. Right across the street from his house is Kix Brooks' house. It's beautiful there but a little too.....conservative.
  2. It is normal to have stalls. The scale can't move all the time. But not drinking enough water will definitely slow your weight loss.

    Running technique

Well....less heavy than before. But when I look at that guy on the video, I probably still have 50 pounds on him. But it's getting closer all the time. Still, I doubt I'll ever be that thin. I still have a 47" chest. <flexing>

Is this a real stretch technique?

Fiddleman, I know this is an old post...I just found it. Usually, in order to stretch the hamstrings the knee must be extended. What you're describing does sound like a really good stretch for the iliotibial band and gluteus. I have to stretch those after every run.

    Protein Supplement Critiques

I often wonder why surgeons tell their patients they want them to eat all their protein and get off of the shakes. There is nothing at all wrong with them. They can be very beneficial, especially if you workout. Many healthy non WLS people have protein shakes as part of their daily life. It's just a supplement. And in our case, it makes so much sense because our ability to eat a lot of food is compromised due to the surgery. It's not much different than taking a vitamin supplement. For a person my size, there is no way I'm going to build muscle on just 60 grams of protein a day. I need more.

    Baton Rouge Area Sleevers!

My people are in Alexandria, Bossier City, Monroe, Houma and Natchitoches. Don't think I know anybody in Baton Rouge though.

    Breathrough in bariatrics?

I think they should just go back to wiring people's jaws shut before they do this.

    Uh Oh....I'm suddenly STARVING

I'm just curious how you all know its not heartburn since the rest of us can no longer tell the difference after surgery? Here's another question....if you feel hungry, so what? Hunger can't kill you. It goes away in some people after surgery but not everyone. It certainly had a hold of me during the soft food/mushie stage. But as soon as I started eating real food, especially dense Protein, it was like the wild beast was tamed.

    Hunger?

I still feel hunger just like any normal person, I just can't eat as much. I also have learned that hunger can be controlled much easier if I don't eat any high glycemic carbs like potatoes, bread, pasta or donuts (donuts....yum). Those foods actually increase cravings and hunger, while dense protein helps decrease the hunger.

    Caffeine Quiz...test your smarts

I got a 71....but their definition of addictive substance must be different than mine. Any substance that allows you to build up a tolerance so you need more, then gives you physical withdrawal symptoms when you stop taking it sounds like an addictive substance to me. The coffee lobbyists in Washington must have paid a pretty penny to keep their product off of the "addictive substances" list.

    CONSTANTLY HUNGRY :(((

Stomach acid can definitely fool you into thinking you're hungry post op. So will thirst. Make sure you're getting in enough water. Also, eating processed carbs will increase appetite and cravings. Dense protein will leave you feeling full longer. Lastly, head hunger is a bear. We develop habits of eating that are hard to break. Your head sends you a signal to eat and in the past you've always obeyed it, I know I did. But next time it happens, stop and take a real good self assessment and ask yourself are you really hungry or just wanting to eat. Those are 2 different things. I'm 8 months out and I still sometimes catch myself wanting to eat when I'm not physically hungry, nor do I need anything.

    Shortness=slower weight loss?

What? You started this thread saying you were losing slow. You're not losing slow. 5 pounds a week is not slow. You're doing great.

    100lbs GONE!

Way to go. You should be proud.

    Lose weight in feet?

More weight pressing down on your feet will make them wider, but also longer because our arch will flatten out to a small degree. Lose a bunch of weight and the arch could rise, making the foot shorter.
  17. I just stay away from all these foods because they have no nutritional value whatsoever and are basically the kinds of foods that helped me stay fat for so long.

For the sleevers , is it okay to have a stuff potato ?

If you don't have a NUT or an eating plan, then a good general rule of thumb is....it's okay to have those kinds of foods so long as you're getting in at least 60 grams of protein and 64 ounces of water. If you still have room after all that, then yes a starch won't kill you. But if you're not getting that water and protein then seriously consider not using valuable sleeve space on starches. That's my approach anyway. The protein and water are just too important.

For the sleevers , is it okay to have a stuff potato ?

You really need protein, not all the carbs that come in a potato. Just my opinion. You can.....but I wouldn't.

    Some people here are meanies

Fat people are jolly, but hungry people are not.

In a stall and FREAKING OUT!

Also quite common. Especially after someone is more than a couple of weeks out, but everyone's body is different. Too few calories will put your body into starvation mode, according to some experts, and cause your body to fight to hang onto every ounce rather than losing. By upping your calories, you took your body out of that panic mode.
