I think my nightmare has come true.....
Butterthebean replied to DanaInNewOrleans's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dana, I'm curious if you asked him for one and if so what did he say? I'm always curious about doctors who don't give a calorie goal. Mine gave me one, but he basically said the Water and Protein goals were way more important. And that if I met those goals and didn't eat a bunch of crap to go with it, my calories would take care of themselves....in other words, in the early months its very difficult to eat too many calories unless you're cramming chocolate malts all day. So it may be nothing to worry about at the moment. -
I finished it recently. I was scared of advancing each week. And a couple of weeks I just repeated the week. But I always surprised myself. The people that designed that program really knew what they were doing because I never thought I'd be able to do it. Now I'm training for a half marathon.

Has anyone lost the weight after VSG without exercise?
Butterthebean replied to Jenny12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can still lose weight but you will lose more muscle this way, which will ultimately lower your metabolic rate. -
Oh My Gosh, This protein drink is so delicious!
Butterthebean replied to MamaDupa's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I read that article. The problem is it was written for bodybuilders, not sleevers. According to that article, I need 233 grams of Protein per day....1 gram per pound of bodyweight, if I'm reading it correctly. Even if it just means my lean body mass, that's still close to 195 grams per day. That's alot. Maybe if I was a bodybuilder I would need that much. But my real problem is he says he has never found any research stating that 30 grams of protein is the "absolute limit". That's sorta true, but there has been research showing that 30 grams is what most people can utilize for muscle synthesis...meaning the breakdown and building of new muscle, which is why we need protein. Here are 2 links I found very quickly that talk about those studies... http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/10/091026125543.htm http://www.begin2dig.com/2010/02/30g-of-protein-per-meal-for-optimal.html It's hard to tell what the actual truth is. All we have to go by is what the so called experts report on the web-O-sphere because most of us aren't privy to the actual research being done. -
im beginning to think sleeve surgery is a scam
Butterthebean replied to kizzy's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Keep in mind that calories in/calories out is not absolute mathematics. And it's not instantaneous. It's not like you drive your car 20 miles and burn 2 gallons of gas immediately. It doesn't work that way in the instant. But over time it will. -

Be aware, you cannot absorb 52 grams of protein in one sitting. Your body will utilize what it can (on average 30 grams) and eliminate the rest as waste. You might consider breaking that up into 2 meals. Then you'd get the full affect of all that protein. -
Ok, might have to turn in my man card for asking this....

I see people driving down the road all the time typing something into their cell phone. Truck drivers are no exception. My wife can drive, text and do her makeup all at the same time. -

can someone evaluate this exercise plan?

Nice. Wish I could run that fast. -
Craving fruits and veggies... Juicing anyone?
Butterthebean replied to skinnygirlscomingout's topic in Food and Nutrition
Sounds like a good plan. I was just making it clear for anyone who comes along later and reads this thread. You never know....there have been many posts in the past about people wanting to drink a 50+ g shake in one sitting and calling it good for the day. -
That's your member title, and once you get 500 posts you can change it. Till then it's predetermined.

Have you thought about throwing out your scale?
Butterthebean replied to SoCalDixieGal's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I salute your bravery. Do it. I think new sleevers don't need to weigh at all. The only reason I see to keep one is down the line, it will give you much quicker feedback if you're slipping...as opposed to just noticing your clothes getting tighter. -

Butterthebean replied to skinnygirlscomingout's topic in Food and Nutrition
I wouldn't drink a 40 g Isopure in one sitting and expect to absorb that much Protein. Your body can only absorb so much protein at one time and the rest will be wasted. Usually it is closer to 30-35 grams...depending on the person. The real problem with juicing is you leave so many of the nutrients and Fiber behind. I bought a vitamix recently and have started making green shakes every day. I put in kale, frozen fruit, Protein powder, broccoli, chia seeds and whatever else I have lying around. I've never been this regular, I'm still getting in protein...and although there is more carbs involved, most of them are low glycemic carbs so it's nothing but healthy. I do feel much better getting in something besides meat and cheese. The vitamix absolutely liquifies everything, but it is not cheap, I've heard good things about the Ninja blender which is somewhat cheaper, but still way better than a typical blender. -
Most of them have way too many carbs for the protein. They can be good as a last resort if you're out hiking in the wilderness or on a long bike ride, but there are other options if you don't mind planning and preparing in advance.

If you like to run, check out this link on good running form. This has really helped me run without any pain or injuries. I truly believe that us heavier runners really need all the help we can get to prevent running injuries. I've had enough knee injuries to last me a lifetime, I don't want anymore. http://www.goodformrunningaz.com/

You clearly missed CLK's earlier post. -
Do you ever post anything positive?

I've been here more than a year and I still get attacked. Hungry people are meanies.

I actually think my gun wouldn't do a bit of good against a BJJ expert, if he got up close. But then again, those aren't the people I'm worried about. Most of those people have enough self control to not go looking for trouble. It's the young wild bucks with something to prove. -
I can't post on VST anymore....there is nothing I can say to top this topic.
