Not a day goes by that I don't eat raw almonds. I tried the flavored ones but I eat too many, so I stick with the raw. Move them and never had a problem with them.

My disturbing before and afters!
Butterthebean replied to suzthebrit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's only been 10 weeks. You can see a big difference. In another 10 weeks there will be an even bigger difference. And honestly, 10 weeks is not a big time span for weight loss. After I had surgery all I could think about was.....this time next year I'll be a whole different person (on the outside anyway). Well it's only been 8 months but yeah, everything is different. There is going to come a day very soon when you will catch a glimpse of your reflection in a window and have to stop and see who it is....cause you won't recognize yourself. -
I just cant do the protien shakes! Help!
Butterthebean replied to FAWife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some people do not tolerate whey protein very well. You may check with your doc and see if it's okay to try soy protein or hemp protein....there are many others but you want a fast absorbing protein. Whey is just about the fastest but those others are better than no protein at all. Whatever you do, do not start taking the protein shots....they are of no nutritional value. -
Troubles sleeping
Butterthebean replied to Aaronmadeit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Aaron, sorry to hear this. It may or may not be related to your surgery, but it's worth investigating. Most people do get told to take at least a multivitamin and an iron supplement. If you're not you might need to start but definitely put in a call to your docs office to check with them first. Are you having any cramps at night? -
Then you need to go read the "horror story" thread cause over there....way down toward the end....they are presenting evidence and scientific studies that obesity IS a physiological problem. I'm not saying I agree with it....never did, so the fact that you keep making the same argument seems kinda pointless. All I'm saying is the motivation behind the abstinence might make a huge difference in whether or not someone succeeds or fails. If they abstain from their heart's greatest desire then yeah....that's hard to do. But if one has an epiphany that they no longer want something that they used to enjoy, then partaking of it would be foolish. Please, go read that other thread....although you might have to weed through several pages of foolishness there too. AND...don't talk about insults and attacks when you through out the first swastika.

Cheeseburgers?
Butterthebean replied to Luckystar12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had some venison chili not too long ago....that stuff is the bomb diggity. And there is a place here in town that makes bison burgers and bison fajitas....yummy and very lean (but no secret sauce). -
I don't think people come to this forum to read medical research and case histories....there are better websites for that than VST. They come here to get real world experiences from people who are going through or have gone through the same things. People are constantly seeking the advice and suggestions of vets who are 1, 2 or 3 years out from surgery. But I can count on one hand all those 3 year vets that are still hanging around. And why should they hang around when someone who has just had surgery attacks them like this and acts like he already knows everything....but just 2 days ago you drank a cup of coffee and then made a post to the forum because he didn't know what to do. It's clear from your posts you don't know everything but are trying to learn. That's great. But don't get so smug and sarcastic to the few people around here that are in the position to teach you something like OTR.

How are you doing on the "emotional" side of being skinny?
Butterthebean replied to CowgirlJane's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
That's a good tip about the L-carnatine. I will look into that. As for her going to a doctor about weight loss related issues....not going to happen. I think to her, like many people, it's like admitting there is a problem. And I don't know how to suggest it without her thinking that I think she has a weight problem....which I don't. Anyone who runs, bicycles, lifts weights and eats healthy all the time like she does is at a healthy weight, as far as I'm concerned. But because she used to be lighter, she's not happy with her weight. Never mind the fact that she is a PHD who works with MDs all day long so she doesn't have the highest opinion of MDs. Visiting them is something she only does when absolutely necessary. -
Cheeseburgers?

I was "I can't believe you can wipe your own ass" fat. But not anymore, and part of my success was staying away from McDonalds. Yay me. -
How are you doing on the "emotional" side of being skinny?
Butterthebean replied to CowgirlJane's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
This thread really reminds me of the one big issue I'm having at home. My wife has been great through all of this, she's been my biggest cheerleader. She's always been a healthy eater and physically fit person. She's run a marathon, and has continued to eat right and exercise as long as I've known her, and despite my weight going up and down. But like most people, she would love to lose 20 pounds. 20 pounds that I can't help but feel partially responsible for since she put those pounds on while I was putting on 100+ pounds and eating everything in sight and refusing to exercise. All the while she made many attempts to lovingly encourage me to eat better and exercise, but I never took the hint.....until I made up my mind to have surgery. Well, now I've had it and the weight is coming off, and I've turned my eating around 180 degrees. And even though my wife exercises with me everyday and eats pretty much just like I eat, she cannot lose a pound. And every time I Celebrate another 10 pounds lost or another shirt size dropped, it just reminds her of her inability to lose any weight and makes her feel bad about herself. I've done everything I know to tell her how healthy she is and how she's doing all the right things, but it doesn't matter. I've basically had to quit celebrating those little victories because I don't want her to feel bad. I wish I could help her but I don't know what else to do. I don't give her advice cause she doesn't need it. She knows what to do and does all the right things, but her weight won't budge and it's making her miserable. And seeing me lose so easily just makes it worse. -
Slow losers that are maintaining or close to goal
Butterthebean replied to clk's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I've been thinking about that same subject quite a bit lately. I'm not quite at goal, but feel like I'm not in any intermediate phase either. I'm doing what I plan to sustain indefinitely. I'm prepared to add a few calories to my diet if I get to the point where I've lost too much, but other than that I don't plan for anything to change. Maybe time will tell a different story. I approach the future with cautious optimism. -

So then I am a sleeve nazi or not? You didn't answer the question, you just acted dismissive.

Slow losers that are maintaining or close to goal
Butterthebean replied to clk's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Yay Cheri. JK....I can't add anything since I was not a slow loser, but I will say I was just remarking to someone the other day that it only takes one "I lost 100 pounds in 5 weeks" threads to prompt a whole string of "my surgeon didn't remove enough of my stomach" threads. It honestly makes me want to remove all of my weigh ins from my sig and not advertise the "rate" of loss in order to downplay that whole aspect of things. Cause I'm starting to believe that total loss is way more important than how many months it took, and if that attitude were more prevalent around here people might be less stressed about their "slow" weight loss. -
I ran my weekly long slow run yesterday. 5.5 miles. Farthest I've ever been. Couldn't believe how good I felt afterward. I'm starting to get that "runner's high" every now and then. I love it.
