Some emotional turmoil after cosmetic/plastics consult
Butterthebean replied to CowgirlJane's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Interesting. I want to reward myself with a plastics consult. But I think I'm going to put off any surgery for at least 1 more year. I don't want to wait but I know I should. I still have 20 or so pounds to lose, but frankly if I didn't have this belly roll I could stop right now and be happy. -
Yeah, I'm doing his half marathon plan. Most of his half marathon plans involve cross training as an alternative to running back to back. I prefer that. The marathon plans are almost all running. I don't really have any advice to give except to say you may have to make your own alterations. Change one of those runs to another cross training day. Or do half the run and then do 30 minutes cross training. That way you're still getting the cardio without overdoing it. I'm the same as you, I think about injury prevention every step I take. Maybe it's a result of being 44 and always having to be careful or my weight would have caused an injury. Best of luck with this. We're all rooting for you.

40 Y.O.,Obese since childhood, want to lose 150?
Butterthebean replied to SerendipityHappens's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I remember being 145 in the 4th grade. I couldn't play football with the other 4th graders because I was too heavy so I had to play with the 5th and 6th graders. Of course, I was their whipping boy. I also remember being 215 in the 7th grade. I remember because the coach made me weigh right in front of everybody. I never thought I would live that down. Well, the good news is...I'm 44, at least a foot taller, and within striking distance of 215 again. I've lost 80% of my excess weight and still losing in just over 8 months. I refuse to let everyone else's statistics put limitations on me. I'll keep going till I'm satisfied...You can too. -
Light Headed/Dizzy
Butterthebean replied to alw1981's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Could be dehydration or low blood sugar. When you suddenly go low/no carb weird things happen. Your body is so used to burning sugar for fuel it doesn't want to burn anything else (fat). But it will adjust if that is the problem. But if you're not drinking enough water, you need to increase it. -

Best to read the ingredients in those protein shots. If the first ingredient isn't whey protein then it's not what you want. Almost all of the ones I've seen say collagen, a protein that will do you no good at this point....unless you want to have pretty nails as your muscles waste away. Even the ones with whey on the name contain collagen. I have only seen 1 brand that stated it contained 100% whey protein. I am highly skeptical that they were able to condense whey into a syrup like that but maybe they did. It's either the greatest protein shot ever or they are liars. But I do know they only marketed it to bariatric surgery patients for some reason. If it were truly real they could have marketed it to the bodybuilding community and made billions. -

Several months out- weird vertigo spells/equilibrium issues anyone?
Butterthebean replied to sirensiren's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've been having light headedness when I stand up too quickly. It only happens 2-3 times a day. It's rare enough that I forget about it until it hits me....lasts for maybe 3-4 seconds, light headed and dizzy. I went to the doctor last week and he took all my blood work, urine sample and they checked my blood pressure standing, sitting, lying down and swinging from a vine. It was always perfect. My heart rate however scared the doc so bad he personally called a cardiologist right then and convinced him to see me immediately. It was a consistent 42 BPM. They did 2 EKGs and didn't find anything. I go for an echocardiogram Friday and I get my blood work results Wednesday so I'll see what the deal is. I'm 8 months out and never drink alcohol and I feel great the rest of the time. The cardiologist says my heart is not having to work very hard to pump blood to my suddenly smaller body and that it should gradually pick up in time to normal levels. Nobody can say if my heart rate is even remotely related to the light headedness. -

Sadly, no because I'm allergic to spinach. I always thought it was a blessing in my old life but now I wish I could eat it. -

I buy the 96% lean ground beef. It's just about the same nutritionally as ground turkey. Depends on which one you think tastes better. -
