    chipotle? subway?

Chipotle and subway are about the only 2 eateries I frequent regularly. I get double chicken on my burrito bowl with peppers and onions, lettuce, pico de gallo, hot sauce, cheese and a little guacamole. Makes 3 meals at least. At subway, the oven roasted chicken salad is good for 3 meals as well, again with double meat for Protein. I make my own ranch dressing at home out of skim milk and Greek yogurt. Really high protein. Y'all be careful about that teriyaki chicken they have or any other sauced up Entrees. Go look at the nutritional info on their website. That teriyaki chicken salad has more than double the carbs of the oven roasted chicken salad. The only difference being the sauce...it's pure sugar. To me it's just not worth it.

    Treadmills- who actually uses them?

Workout DVDs are much cheaper than a treadmill and you get to stay at home.

Typical days food intake for vets?

Am I vet enough? I eat about 1500 calories/day Typical day for me... Bkfst is egg beaters with chopped up grilled chicken, bell peppers and 2% cheese on top Or A green Protein shake At 10ish I'll have a Protein Shake or some turkey and cheese...maybe 150 calories worth lunch will usually be a salad with chicken mixed in and ranch dressing made from Greek yogurt and skim milk (lots of protein) in the afternoon I try to have some more protein to get me over that afternoon hump, so I'll have a couple more pieces of lean turkey and maybe a bite of cheese and some raw almonds. dinner will usually be another salad or some baked fish or shrimp. My favorite Snacks are baby bel cheeses and raw almonds and I try to keep them around and with me at all times when I'm out of the house. And to me anytime is a good time for a protein shake. I'm one of those freaks who actually enjoys them. I can't help it.
  5. I listened to the whole thing. That was very interesting. And thank you thank you thank you for what you said about learning new eating habits. Hats off to you for your success. And thanks for being an inspiration to so many of us here. I did get a little chuckle out of that doctor. He was definitely holding back his true feelings about bariatric surgery in Mexico. But he made a great point about how safe the surgery is today....a fact that most of our friends and family don't understand when we first tell them about our intention to have surgery.

    Horror Story

A leak test at the hospital is good, but from what I've read some leaks won't show up right away due to inflammation sealing it shut. When the inflammation goes down the leak opens up. That's not common but it does happen. That's why it's a good thing to pay close attention to your body for those first few weeks after surgery.

    Horror Story

Less than 1% is not what I would call "common." While I'm sorry this happened to you and your family, and I'm glad you told your story, I believe you are over stating the likelihood of complications from this surgery. No surgery is without complications. For the return on investment, VSG is a very safe surgery. One thing is for sure, the possibility of complications due to remaining obese and never losing the weight are probably close to 100%....that to me is way riskier than VSG surgery. If you can lose the weight without surgery, I wish you the best and I salute you. But the studies of obese people show that the likelihood of those of us with 100 or more pounds to lose have little chance of doing it (and maintaining it) without surgery.

    The road is your treadmill.
  11. Hmmmmm. I'm married to an "expert", and have debated "experts" here and other places on more than one occasion. To them, "real life experience" translates to anecdotal data. But I'm a natural born pessimist so what do I know.....

    Frozen green smoothies

Since you and quite a few others have asked me, I just put it in my sig. I wouldn't drink it regularly if you're newly sleeved because A....some people don't tolerate all the greens and B....you need to focus more on protein. But once you get past the point of struggling to get in your protein, then I say go for it. I have never felt better or more regular.

    Potty troubles?

It's difficult being regular once you're a sleever. At first you're not eating anything so there is nothing there. Then when you do start eating, you're not eating any Fiber so.....it's a constant battle. I used miralax for a while and that helped. Then started adding chia seeds to my Protein shakes about 3 months post op and that really helped. Now I also make veggie shakes every day and I almost feel like a normal person most of the time, but still have traffic jams occasionally. But be careful, once you start feeling those first gas sensations coming on....remember our motto....never trust a fart.

    Protein bars

Unfortunately the more protein a bar has the worse it tastes. I'm not even sure why one would call anything a protein bar when it has more carbs than protein. I'm pretty sure that as a sleever, especially a new sleever we need more protein than carbs, which would make "protein" bars a detriment to your food goals. There are better ways to get in your protein is all I'm saying.
