Where do you men shop for regular sizes?

I cut up my Casual Male rewards card the other day. Man I've had that thing a while. I did go in there one last time and the lady stopped me and said "you know this is a big mans shop don't you?". I guess I better not come back then.
  2. Cowgirljane...a while ago I joked on this forum that when I made it to goal I wanted to have a Tshirt made that said "former fatty so f*** off." Sometimes I still want to wear a shirt like that. Too subtle?

Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?

As a matter of fact I'm taking a chi running seminar next month. Looking forward to it. I've read the book and really enjoyed it. I tried the metronome thing, but hated that. Downloading music with the proper beats per minute was much more pleasurable. And in my mind, cadence and tempo are two different things. My thinking was the tempo runs are like faster runs, where the cadence is just your steps per minute but it doesn't necessarily mean you are running fast. In fact, in the chi running book it states that your cadence should always stay the same, and to run faster you simply take longer strides, not faster strides. But it also advocates for a forefoot landing which means if you take longer strides you're just stretching out your stride behind you. You lead leg still lands under your hips, not in front (again, this is just for forefoot landing). If you are a heel striker it would be totally different. If you count your steps and figure out our cadence, you can do a google search for songs with that beats per minute...I promise you will find a huge list for any number you put in. Mine are all classic rock....industrial disease and twisting by the pool by Dire Straits. Dancing with Myself by billy idol. Tusk by Fleetwood Mac. Freeze Frame...J Geils Band. Modern Love....David Bowie. Bad Moon Rising...CCR. Blitzkrieg Bop....Ramones. That's all I can remember off the top of my head.

What works for me is figuring out my running cadence (how many steps I take per minute) then doing a google search for songs with the same beats per minute. Then I run to the music. Really helped me keep my cadence up. For me, it's better to take shorter faster strides than long loping strides. My cadence is up around 180 strides/minute. I didn't start there though, I just got faster over time.

    For Distance Runners

On training runs, I'd say it's more like 1:20 for me to do 10K. I've only run that far maybe 7 times. My first ever race is next Saturday....it's a 10K. I'm eager to see if I'll be any faster than usual, but I'm not going to try to be fast....being its my first race. I personally have never been able to run fast and for some reason it just doesn't agree with me, so instead I'm embracing the long distance runs. I am getting faster though, not quickly but I notice it's happening. Trail running is even slower than road running....but so much more gratifying. I've yet to run on a treadmill so I don't know how fast I'd be on one of those. But I'm sure I would need to run a little slower on a 10K than a 5K. Here's a website that will give you a target for other distances. You plug in your 5K time and it gives you an idea how fast you should run 10K, half marathon, full marathon and so forth. It accounts for the fact that you'll have to slow down some on those longer distances. http://www.mcmillanrunning.com/

Did a 10.5 mile trail run this morning. It was supposed to be 8 miles but I took a wrong turn on the trail. Didn't matter though, I had a great time. I had a pocket fuel (chocolate haze) and I sat very well with me about half way through the run. Tastes like chocolate peanut butter. I only tripped over 2 roots and busted my ass....one slightly skinned knee later I was back in business. No worries though. I must say....I'm completely spent.

Be careful folks....at first, you'll hate running,...then you'll kinda start liking it.....then you'll get addicted like me. Next thing you know you'll be calling in sick to work so you can go for a long run.....um.....not that I ever did that.

    TUMMY TUCK TOMORROW MORNING

When you say it pulls on your stomach to stand up straight, do you mean the skin or your abdominal muscles? Just curious.

Yes but human tissue is not brittle nor will it crack when warm if hit with water. There is a danger of dehydration during excessive sweating from exercise and drinking liquids will prevent that danger. Not drinking, especially while sweating intensly, causes a loss of water in the body. I have never heard anyone recommend not drinking during exercise before, and everything I have ever read on the subject contradicts your statements. I'm certainly not going to go out and run 8 miles on a hot day without taking in some liquids.
  12. Wow...thanks for sharing those pics. I hope to be following your lead soon.

    So...Problems....

Whether or not sleeve patients dump is highly debatable. I won't get into that but I will say that the calories are still being absorbed. Most calories are absorbed in the intestines not the stomach, so if the food passes quickly out of your stomach or not...it doesn't matter as far as calorie absorption is concerned. The main job of the stomach is like a trash compactor..it manually grinds up the food further for ease in digestion later. Just fyi.. As to the eating...I'd say go back to basics...definitely get back to the beginning. Go back to your very basic post surgery losing phase diet. Not necessarily full liquids...but the lean Protein, low carb way you ate those first few months. Logging your food, weighing your portions...get back to that for a period and I bet you can turn this thing around pretty easily.

Dehydration long term & dizziness anyone?

Fiddleman, that's exactly what happens to me. I wouldn't call mine vertigo as it was explained to me that vertigo is more like the room spinning. Mine is more like a nail being driven right between my eyes, like my eyes are crossed. It goes away after 2 or 3 seconds, and if I just remember to get up slowly I can prevent it. My last BP measurement was 116/68. But I do get white coat syndrome so it's always higher immediately when I get to the docs office. If they wait 10 minutes and check it again it will be lower. My resting pulse is anywhere from 42-46. Several docs and nurses have seem quite amazed over that. I'm told it's normal for highly conditioned athletes but I guess I still don't look like one of those...lol. One thing that troubles me is the off the cuff suggestions you get from different physicians about what might resolve the problem. The cardiologist told me (without the benefit of any blood tests) that with the amount of exercise I do and all the Water I drink it could be an electrolyte imbalance. His suggestion....drink a sprite every day. Seriously? Of all the ways I could think of to increase sodium intake, a sprite is not the first thing that pops to mind. Not to mention, he failed to take into account my former sugar and carb addicted lifestyle and how I refuse to go back to that. Then he suggested a pacemaker...again...wow. Now he wants to treat the symptom (low heart rate) before he's even sure it's the cause of the problem (dizziness). Tomorrow I go to get my eyes examined and get a brain MRI. Perhaps one of those will shed some light. At this point, my wife is suggesting I do like you and just ignore it....but I feel too invested to quit now...especially after they have scared me into thinking it's my ticker.

Repeating a day or even a week is absolutely the right thing to do, anytime you feel the need. That's the beauty of this program. Proud of all of y'all who give it a go. Since being sleeved, C25K is the best thing I've done. I no longer care about the scale moving, only how far I can run. It's a much more fulfilling focus.

Not at all. You think bodybuilders don't run? The reason worldclass runners are so skinny is it makes it easier to run. But if you ever go to a local run, it's kind of amazing the wide array of sizes of people.

Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?

I did the C25K last year. Started it in mid september. After that first night I didn't go back for 2 weeks. But finally, I grudgingly went back...I couldn't jog 30 seconds. But after 5 or 6 nights I started to see an improvement and I started liking it. Every week I would look ahead at the next week and think there is no way I can do that. But then I'd surprise myself. I have never ran before in my life. But now I'm totally addicted and all I can do is anticipate the next run. I've got a 10K coming up weekend after next and a half marathon in April. I'm pumped and really think it's the best thing I've done since getting sleeved. We've got a thread called "for distance runners" that a few of us sleeved runners hang out on. Come on over there and read up....there are some pretty advanced sleeved runners lurking around here. But seriously, as to the C25K...keep at it. Listen to your body and that inner voice in your head. If it tells you you're not ready to move ahead, you don't have too. Feel free to repeat any nights you need to. By the time you get to the end you will be loving it....or your money back.

Dehydration long term & dizziness anyone?

I am 9 months post op and just in the last month I have been dealing with dizzy spells quite a bit. Mine mimic the symptoms of orthostatic hypotension...I get light headed when I stand up too quickly. However, several bp tests have shown no drop in bp while standing. I had all my blood work done and I showed no signs of dehydration nor any deficiencies..including B12. The only thing they did find was my resting heart rate was very low (mid 40's). I run and workout daily, and that could explain the low heart rate for some people. It's generally not a problem unless you're also having dizzy spells, as I am. As of now, I have seen 3 different docs, had several EKG's, a carotid ultrasound, an echocardiogram, had my hearing checked, worn a holter monitor, and nothing has been found. Still looking into it. I did up my water intake hoping that was the problem, and I started religiously logging my liquid intake again, as well as my dizzy spells. It seems to have helped, but hasn't eliminated the problem. About the only thing that helps for me is standing up slowly....like I always did when I was 400 lbs because it hurt too much to stand up quickly.

    For Distance Runners

For those of y'all running on treadmills....I hope the weather clears up enough soon so you can get outside and run some trails. I've gotten where I don't even like to run on the street anymore. Running trails is just too much fun. And I live in the Houston area, not exactly the outdoor trail running mecca, but still there are enough trails around with enough scenery to keep me happy. It's harder than running on the street, a little slower...but the miles fly by and the scenery just makes you forget you're exercising.
