I couldn't say for you, but after I got my resting metabolic rate and VO2 max test I found out exactly how many calories I was burning on my runs. I realized I was in a calorie deficit of over 2500 calories on certain days. That's just too many. The furnace won't burn without fuel so I upped my calories to 2000/day from 1500. We will see how that goes. My resting metabolic rate was 2200. That's what I'd burn everyday if I just sat on the couch all day. But I work an outdoor physical job, plus work out every day. An hour long run at my aerobic threshold was over 1100 calories burned. You see where this is going. After a while, not only will the limited calories hold me back, but the weight loss will slow way down with too much of a deficit for too long.

Fiddleman...with all your hard exercise, when was the last time you upped your caloric intake? You're getting so close to goal, I know you have a plan for maintenance. Perhaps your body is telling you it's almost time to implement that plan. We cannot keep our calories extremely low forever...especially being super active as you are.

Very enlightening post PDXman. I've been drinking my green shakes for a while now...regularly. I stopped for a few days and I noticed I was constantly hungry and no amount of food would satisfy me. I needed some good carbs obviously.

I was talking about all you b*****s.

Nice to finally put a (pretty) face to the name. The only thing I knew for sure was you had at least 2 fingers.

That's a huge difference. You are transforming and you will continue to do so. Keep it up. Plus you've lost 96 pounds. Go find something that weighs that much and pick it up and carry it around for a while...that will drive home your accomplishment.

Just curious why it has to be low fat? Low fat usually means high in something else like sugar.

How are you doing on the "emotional" side of being skinny?

This....I can't count how many times in the last few months I've wanted to just start talking to some overweight person and tell them I know how much pain they're in, that I know where they've been because I was there....and offer them the solution that helped me. I want to but I don't dare. -

Well, where I was running, they don't have what you'd call a beach...it's more like a bulkhead that has been built up to prevent errosion, but there is a great trail that runs along it for several miles. We do have real beaches. Galveston is the big beach attraction here near Houston...but they are nothing like west coast beaches. Now quit beating yourself up and give yourself some credit. You rode your bike. Tomorrow you can get outside and walk or run. I like to run with my wife because we keep each other company, but I will also put on my ear buds and run with my music which is great. And my dogs make much better running companions than anyone I know. Because no matter how tired I get, I look down and they are smiling and wagging their tails and having a great time. It's great to have a running partner, but you have to be willing to go it alone when you're schedules don't work out. After doing it for a few weeks, you will come to appreciate the serenity and peace of just running along by yourself enjoying the fresh air and sunshine. -

2 weeks sounds a bit soon. I would definitely keep going until your surgery because the better shape you're in when you have your surgery the easier your recovery is likely to be. I started walking immediately after surgery and was cycling and doing the elliptical at 2 weeks, but jogging I think would have been too much. More like 6 weeks to make sure everything was healed and my energy was back. -
Deer Park is my old stomping grounds. I went to high school at Rayburn, but had many friends in Deer Park, and got many traffic tickets going up and down Center Street. Now I live up on the other side of Dayton but still work in Pasadena so I'm all around that area all the time.

Hey those sheep are fast.

A good shepherd always looks out for his flock....except in the South....where the men are men and the sheep are nervous.

I think you would be surprised at how long you could run if you mixed in a few LSD (long slow distance) runs, 1 per week is ideal I think. My plan has me adding a mile to my longest run every week. If I start to get fatigued I just walk 100 yards and slow down my heart rate, then continue running. The next time I will likely not have to walk.

There...fixed it for ya.

Sometimes...yes! You just have to figure out how to seperate the good info from the "internet knowledge." If you figure it out, let me know. -

I ran 4.5 miles today outside...along the bay while watching these huge pelicans dive bomb the water. The sun was shining and the breeze was blowing, it was so boring. How I wish I had a treadmill in my closet at home. <kidding> -
If you google Hal Higdon, he has some great training plans for every distance, including half marathon. I think the half marathon plans are all 12 weeks but that's assuming you can run 3 miles fairly easily. You might be ahead of week 1 and 2 already, so you could easily do it in 10. But it's a good website with lots of training plans.

I have yet to go to sleep. I've been up almost 24 hours looking for my ....yep, there it is.... my Sunday gravy boat. Wait. Is today Sunday? ****, now I have to look for the other one. Screw it I'll just drink the gravy right out of the keg.

I was laughing at this post and the stick went flying out of my ass and broke a lamp.

Yep...10 months since surgery. I've been posting for over a year...but it feels like decades sometimes.

Great progress.
