Since I can remember I have always been over weight. I remember be being 130 lbs in the 5th grade. Boy do I wish I was 130 lbs now. It seems to me that my life has revolved around food. I eat when I am happy, sad, celebrating or mourning. Food is my comfort blanket. As a child/teenager I played soccer so even though I was overweight I was still pretty solid. As I grew into adulthood that "solid" wasn't so solid anymore. As I got ready to marry I lost a few pounds but I was somewhere around 180 or so. Standing on the beach on my Honeymoon in Mexico I was greater by a local with "hola gordita Bonita" which loosely translated by this white girl that speaks Spanish means "pretty fat girl"! I was devastated....really...really people can be so mean! Of course I didn't care that he had called me pretty I only cared about the fat part. A year or so later I was in urgent care for a nasty cold and had to be weighed. I stepped up and the nurse moved the metal thingy over to the 200 mark I stepped off the scale at 201. Feeling ashamed the nurse said "wow, I never would have guessed you weighed that much. You really hide it well." Really where is it hiding because I can see it! Well that marriage came and went and the weight continued to gain slowly. Fast forward a few years and the love of my life and I are engaged to be married in June of 2002 when we find out I am pregnant with our first little girl. By the time Tay was born I was up to 245. Two years later our second little girl was born and I went into the hospital at 253. The day I was to leave the hospital I forced the nurse to bring a scale in. When I stepped off the scale I was 248. What? Erin was 7 pds. I just didn't think that was fare! Fast forward a few more years and I was at 230 or so when my husband gets a new job in Iraq. I ate my way through the first 10 months or so when he was gone. Finally at 247 I walked into Jenny Craig and lost about 20 lbs before he came home. I know I could have been successful on that program but I just couldn't afford it :(. Since he was in Iraq I have been looking into the lap band procedure. I have finally decided that it is time and I am going to start jumping through whatever hoops I have to have this procedure! Wish me luck!
