My story of weight gain started at 19 with my first pregnancy. We were military and was herded through the pregnancy never seeing the same doctor twice, and a doctor didn't care about spousal well being. My husband was in training and then given night shifts, so needless to say I spent my time in a tiny flat eating gravy and anything sweet I could muster up gaining a whopping 110 pounds on my 105 then pound frame. I never lost all the weight. I had two more children and with my last child I weighed in at 220 on delivery day. I dropped to 170 a few years later and was feeling very healthy and happy, then tragedy took over my life when my 17 year old daughter died unexpectedly. From there only years of sadness and bless their hearts my other two children were cheated out of a "normal" happy life they deserved. I guess I ate my self into seclusion, that was all I could face. It became more and more difficult to work, to keep house and just to exist. Once the children were grown and on their own, my weight became worse and my health was poor, arthritis, copd, depression, lethargy. I just wanted an ending. To lie down and sleep forever. I came so close to that and then something terrified me even more, the thought of my family, especially my children, to find me like this. At last, I want to live and I wanted to learn to live alone and find out about myself and have a life again. My mom and sisters found a way to pay for the surgery as a starting point and it did change my life. It has been very slow at the weight coming off and right now nearing the end of my second year, I have barely lost anything in the past 6 months. Playing with the same 5 pounds up and down. I am writing this because I need to get serious again and get these last 50-60 pounds off. My attitude has changed 100 percent and I am doing things now with friends and finding some happiness in my life. The lapband save my life! Thank you Dr. Stowers and my family!
