Vanity, Mental, Health -- Percentages Of Each Regarding My Decision
BenisaMartim4 replied to HondaCivicDude's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Mine was 100% health, but I was extremely excited about the sexiness factor that was going to come along with that new health. I was on 21 meds, a nervous wreck, in excruciating pain and very often confined to the bed or a wheel chair. Now I am off 19 of the meds, much more calm and my fibromyalgia is in "remission?". I have not had to take to the bed in over two months and I no longer walk with a cane. But to go along with that, I must say, I have gone from Shot Mama to Hot Mama. I may not have had my surgery based on vanity, but I am enjoying the vanity of improved looks just as much as the next gal...maybe even more Sent from my iPhone using VST -

On Way To Surgery... Please Pray For Me!
BenisaMartim4 replied to Felicity549's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my sleeve on 2/14, but I had knee surgery on Friday and this happened to me. It is aweful! I have it in my neck, chest, shoulders & upper arms and groins. This might be what you have too: "postoperative myalgia - is a fairly common, quite distressing, but rather interesting condition. It usually appears on the first day after surgery, is often described as feeling similar to the pain one might suffer after unaccustomed physical exercise, and is usually located in the neck, shoulder and upper abdominal muscles. There are a few theories about the cause of postoperative myalgia, but it is usually attributed to the use of a muscle relaxant drug called succinylcholine. Hence this is sometimes referred to as "scoline pain". Although the problem of postoperative myalgia has been recognized for many years, the exact way in which succinylcholine causes this muscle pain is not fully understood. Most believe that it is due to uncoordinated contraction of muscles that occurs a few seconds before the muscle relaxation that is the desired effect of the drug. It is also not clear how best to prevent scoline pain, short of avoiding the use of this drug altogether. It is natural to ask then why we continue to use this medication, and the reason is that succinylcholine, despite a few significant side-effects, is a very reliable and quick-acting muscle relaxant that helps the anesthesiologist "secure" the airway (place a breathing tube). Myalgia from succinylcholine is most common in young female patients, especially those undergoing ambulatory surgery (going home the same day as the surgery). The incidence of myalgia with succinylcholine ranges widely - in some reports it's as low as 1.5% but can be as high as 80 - 90%. To add to the mystery, some patients experience myalgia even when they are not given succinylcholine at all! Naturally you would like to avoid this very unpleasant experience at your forthcoming surgery. The good news is that there are other muscle relaxant drugs than can almost always be used instead of succinylcholine. This will not guarantee that you do not have the myalgia again but probably makes it much less likely. If the use of succinylcholine cannot be avoided, (this is rare), there are methods for decreasing the incidence and severity of the muscle pain, such as giving a very small dose of another muscle relaxant before the succinylcholine, or by giving a local anesthetic medication called lidocaine. Typically the pain lasts 2 or 3 days and it can be quite severe, as you've described. Fortunately it does go away without specific treatment. Standard pain medicines, such as acetaminophen can be prescribed." Hope you feel better soon Sent from my iPad using VST -

I bought some of this from a little Mexican lady at our local trade-day last month. Mine was pineapple and it was astounding! She told me it was "water" so I was surprised when it was so sweet. It is not something that I would drink all the time, but they only have trade-day once a month and we don't even go every time; so, I believe I have found myself a special treat It was even better when I bought the bag of fresh, hot pork rinds to go with it..lol. Spouses During The Hospital Stay
BenisaMartim4 replied to feszyk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My mother took me to the hospital and my hubby came as soon as he got off work. He spent the night with me and when he went to work the next morning my mother came back. He came back after work and spent the night again. My mother came back again for awhile after he went to work. He came and picked me up to go home when he got off. I spent very little time alone. I would have been angry if he had of left me up there alone to go home! Sent from my iPad using VST -

Gain Weight Before Loss?
BenisaMartim4 replied to MrKraid's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Go get a chocolate cake, pizza and a 2 liter and have fun. That should fix you up. All those carbs should easily swell you up 5-10# for a few days. I wouldn't wait the six months either if it were that easy. But do be warned, no matter how much you have read here, you are never completely prepared for it when it happens. So if you need some time to get your emotional house in order, do the diet. It took me 9 months and it was still a shock. Sent from my iPad using VST -

Another Gas Question!
BenisaMartim4 replied to Joni's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I believe the gas that most people are talking about in the beginning is the kind trapped in the chest and shoulders. Moving around helps to dislodge it. I can't speak about the "tootie" kind of gas, I never had that. And as far as room mates, I don't think they do that any more. HIPPA and all you know. I know they don't here anyway. They won't even allow two children from the same family to room together because of privacy laws. Crazy but true. Sent from my iPhone using VST -
Riding In A Car..
BenisaMartim4 replied to MirandaK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I could have done it easily, but I don't know your tolorance. I didnt have post op pain. Just make sure to move your legs around and stop to stretch and walk every so often. If they pump you as full of blood thinners as they did me, you won't have much to worry about though. With mega doses of heparin and lovinox, I was more likely to bleed to death if we had a accident on the way home then to get a blood clot. Sent from my iPhone using VST -

Movie Snack Suggestions
BenisaMartim4 replied to HopeThruFaith's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm voting for the pork rinds. They come in several flavors. You can even get the microwave kind. My daddy loves those. It's just like a bag of popcorn. You put it in the micro and it puffs up hot and fresh. He likes the hot ones, but I would have to go for the regular. I can't do hot anymore. Good luck and have fun Sent from my iPhone using VST -

I am two months out and I still have a VERY hard time taking in anything. On most days I only get liquid calories...from sugar. The NUT told me to do what I had to right now, just so I would not starve. I throw up a lot! I cannot do Protein shakes or milk. It is very discouraging. I would really like to have some friends on MyFitnessPal to help encourage and keep me going. My name is the same as here: BenisaMartim4 Thanks in advance everyone Sent from my iPhone using VST -
My poor hubby is slap wore out. Not only does he work a full time with two hours overtime a day, he also would have to be one quick cooter to out run me when he gets home (and I have a bum knee). My drive is just over the top. He accuses me of trying to collect on his life insurance..HA! Sent from my iPhone using VST
