  1. I had the band and when I went for my first fill he couldn't find the port. It had come off. So, I had to endure another surgery to put it back on. (My insurance does not cover any of this so you can imagine how I was feeling). After that I did great. Lost 100 lbs then my band slipped. Like someone mentioned earlier I couldn't even swallow my own saliva. I was so sick. They went in and fixed my band and after that it was never the same. I could never get it tight enough without it making me sick all the time. I finally had my doctor take all the Fluid out and I gained most of my 100 lbs back. Even with no fluid I was constantly getting things stuck, had horrible heart burn and reflux. None of these things started until after my band slipped and was fixed. Before that time it was great. When I had my doctor take the fluid out completely he talked to me about the sleeve. My first thought was absolutely not. I was sooo scared because it is permanent and I hated feeling bad all the time with the heart burn and reflux. I was worried if that happened with the sleeve then I was stuck for life where with the band I could take it out. I'd rather be over weight and happy than skinny and miserable. I made the decision finally and had the sleeve done. It's been over a year and I have had absolutely no problems at all. I feel great and feel "normal" I didn't realize I never felt normal with the band but with the sleeve I feel just like I did before I ever had any type of stomach surgery. I definately tell people not to do the band and to go for the sleeve.
  2. To be honest I did drink before 3 months and had no problem with it. I would say stay away from it as long as you can though because it will hinder your weight loss. I lost 80 lbs really quick and have stayed at this weight for 6 months. The stoppin of my weight loss is all alcohol. I drink a few drinks every weekend and then I have to lose those lbs during the week. I have not gained any weight but I am not losing it and I attribute it all to alcohol. so, my advice would be to stay away from alcohol until you are at goal weight. (That's also what my doctor keeps pounding in my head.) .

    Surgery today!

I did the same thing before my surgery. ACtually almost called it off 2 days before. Then I prayed about it , didn't call it off and walked into the hospital before surgery never feeling nervous or anxious. It's been a little over a year since my surgery and it's the best thing I ever did. I had the lap band before I moved to the sleeve and it has been awesome. I have had no problems and have felt great. It's the best thing I've ever done. Hang in there it will all go great and it's very normal to be scared. This is life changing.
  4. Thanks for he info. I can handle the iron chewables that I got from my doctor but the calcium and multivitamin I get sick of taking. I find myself skipping days just because I don't want to eat them again.

    Wine

Mine said not until I hit my goal weight but I started having a drink here and there at about 3 to 4 weeks out. I love margaritas and can't drink them anymore because they make me nauseous as well as any sweet drinks. I can drink wine with diet 7 up and I drink bud chiladas or bloody mary's a lot. I've always had a high tolerance for alcohol and find that I still do just not as high as before. It probably wasn't smart to drink that close to surgery but I am 3 months out and am fine.

    Waiting to Drink after Meals

I drank with my band and I've been drinking with this. I tend to sip though so I feel like I'm drinking but really very little is gone out of the glass. As long as I'm continuing to lose weight I figure I will continue with what I'm doing. Some times I do drink more than sips. The point of not drinking is to keep you full and not wash the foot out of your stomach. I just make sure that I don't snack or eat if I get hungry because I drank after I ate or while I was eating.
  7. I am 3 months out and felt the same way as far as feeling like I could eat too much. I still think I can eat too much and my weight loss was slow at first. I lost 10 lbs the first 2 weeks then lost nothing for like 3 weeks. I eat sweets and other things I just eat such small amounts that my calorie intake stays less than 1000 calories a day. I have now lost 46 lbs in 3 months. That's really a lot if you think about it so though I was feeling the same way when I stop and think about it then I realize I am losing a lot. Some things made me really nauseous at first but they don't now so just keep trying things. I loved diet coke before and now it makes me nauseous but diet pepsi doesn't. I don't know what the difference is but that's how it is. I look at things that make me nauseous as a good thing because it helps me stay away from things that I shouldn't eat. Like Chocolate shakes make me sick. That's a good thing because that used to be my weakness. hang in there it gets better and you'll start to lose I bet soon.
  8. I would say definatley. I felt back to normal in less than a week and was eating regulary by week 4. I was tired but once I started my vitamins i have been great with lots of energy. YOu should be fine, plus you will probably feel good because by then you will have lost probably a good amount of weight helping you to feel better.

    what does it feel like?

Everyone must be different. I was band to sleeve. I had surgery on Tuesday and was driving myself around shopping on Friday. I didn't think it was worse than the band. I was back to normal and back at work in less than a week. It's been totally different for me. With the band I felt bad a lot. I had horrible heart burn, reflux at night when I layed down making it hard to sleep. I had a horrible time eating and often had to hold my bra out while I ate so that the food would go down. With the sleeve it's been great. I have had no heart burn, no reflux and no trouble eating anything. I get full really fast but I have found nothing that I could not eat. With the band there were lots of things that I could not eat. I feel back to normal (the way I felt before the band surgery). I am loving the sleeve and can't believe I didn't know about this before I had my band done. I"m self pay so this is the 2nd surgery I've had to pay for.

    Getting so scared

I had the band and went from the band to the sleeve at the end of July this year. I had my surgery on a Tuesday. The week before I was soooo scared. By Thursday of the week before I was going to call and cancel my surgery. Then I decided not to be hasty and talked myself into waiting and knew I could cancel right up to the last minute. I prayed constantly about it and by Friday I was calm and sure about my decision. I wasn't even nervous the morning of surgery. The prayer time about it really helped. Now I'm 2 1/2 months out and it's the best thing I've done. I feel great. It's totally different that the band. With the band food got stuck all the time and I had heart burn and felt bad and then gained 60 of the 100 lbs that I lost back. With the sleeve I don't feel any different than the normal I felt before my band. It's been wonderful to feel good again. I"m 2 1/2 months out and I've lost 40 lbs. I've stalled for 2 week intervals too so though I get frustrated feeling I'm losing slow when I stop and think about it 40 lbs in 2 1/2 months is a lot. Good luck and don't worry it will be great!!
  11. I went from band to sleeve and it's been wonderful. With the band I had reflux and felt horrible a lot and had to be very choosy about what I ate. I would a lot of times have to hold my bra out when I ate because everything seemed to get stuck right there. Since being sleeved, I have had no heart burn, no reflux and no problems eating anything. I feel completely normal like I did before the band. I wish I had known about this before. I was so scared before the surgery I almost cancelled 2 days before. I'm so glad now that I didn't.

    Diet Coke

I drank diet coke up to the day of surgery. I asked my doctor before I left the hospital about drinking diet coke and he said it was fine but I may not like it anymore. guess what, I was a diet cokeaholic also and I don't like it anymore. It makes me nauseaus.

    Sweet things taste wrong!

I don't care for sweet things. Some make me feel horrible but some I just don't care for. I cant stand crystal light anymore and the biggest thing for me is diet coke. I don't like it anymore. I have a hard time because Im drinking nothing but water and sometimes I really want something with taste but since I can't stand crystal light anymore and don't care for diet coke I can't find anything else that I can drink without a bunch of calories.

    Infected scar?

Yes I had that happen about 1 1/2 weeks ago. It scared me because 1 week post op I ended up with staff infection. But I just popped the scab off and squeezed the pus out and put peroxide on it. I repeated that the next morning and put some antibiotic cream on it. I could tell that it was only right under the scab. It cleared up in only a day or two. I was at the doctor yesterday and he said it looked fine and nothing to worry about, just got a little puss under it from the scab not falling off.
