Getting pregnant with PCOS
icestorm12132008 replied to TN_girl21's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I'd get banded first because weight is a huge factor, and as I've read from the enteries above, when you loose a large amount of weight sometimes ovulation picks up on it's won. So i'd get banded first and take some of the weight off, and see what happens. Due to your "advanced" age I'd tak to a fertility specialist or well knowlegeable obgyn. Who knows maybe some low tech procedures and the weight loss is all it would take? I'm 30, and never been pregnant got diagnosed at 28 with PCOS, and I'm hoping that with more weight loss my body will ovulate and I might get pregnant with just a night alone with hubby, or some low tech IUI. Best of luck to you. -

What Should I Do Please Tell Me

for many bandster's carbs spell bad news because they don't slide thru the band like pastas or rice or dense breads cuz they absorb fluids and get spongy. Or they liquify cuz they are mostly suggar like cakes and chcolates and just slide right thru meaning lots of calories can get in and the band is ineffective. As my nutritionist put it to me bread is like a sponge and they use to stuff bread in a cup then put water on it then show the client how nothing else would get thru, but that got expensivve. Also if you have insulin resistance or have pcos, carbs are a bad idea because they cause your insulin to spike to much and can cause the bad hungry cycle wich puts the weight on big time. Trust me once you get yourself off of the simmple carbs and suggars you will be fine, but the first few weeks might stink. hang in there i know you can do this. -
Portion Sizes (Knowing When To Stop)
icestorm12132008 replied to stac7975's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
all good advice, but i got a question onthe different signals our body would send indicating that you where getting full, anyone get like a hot flash? I've had that happen after eating and it's the wierdest thing, and I'm not anywhere near menopause. Sometimes my nose runns as well or i'll burp a little and that is my signal for ok, stop. I have found that a mid sized corelle plate works well (you know the salad plate that is larger then the saucer, in the newer corelle patterns done after 1990). -

wommen can be nasty to eachother, you should never put your heath before the cattiness of wommen. Heck thse gals are probally jelous that you got up the guff to have surgery. take care of you first the world can wait. -
fifty pounds is a big deal. I'd go shopping and maybe buy yourself something that you won't "shrink out of" like a nice pice of jewlery or a nice scarf or handbag, to remind yourself of how far you have come. congrats. you are doing awsome .

this does not sound right. I'd go talk to your doctor, possiblity you are to tight? (to much fluid in the band to fast?) hope you feel better soon.

Taking Time Off Work
icestorm12132008 replied to newme2012's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would give yourself atleast two weeks. it took me ten days not to need any signifigant rest or pain medicine. This surgery as you know as a nurse is a major thing and should be treated as such. If i moved the wrong way my staples hurt so I'd wait until your staples come out to go back to your work as a nurse. Hope you have a good surgery and that you have a good reovery. -
what about suggar free popsicles, and crystal light and plain ice Water? Protien shakes to "kill " the hunger? And just trying to focus on getting back on track.
-
i was told no penut butter cuz it sticks to the walls of the band?
-
i know the not drinking with meals can be tough, but it's done to keep the pouch from flushing out and emptying to soon. Wait till two hours have passed between your meal and when you drink and drink atleast two cups of fluids before your next meal. That helps me I also would suck on sugarfree popsicles an hour after if i was wickid thirsty.

do you think the bread had anything to do with getting stuck? I was told bread is a no go with the band? -
TTC- PCOS?
icestorm12132008 replied to Tuckersmommy2010's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Before you walk away from the idea of treatment for infertility, I'd atleast do an infertility work up with your primary or gyn just to rule out any problems that might prevent you from getting pregnant. Hormonal levels need to be checked, the uterus needs to be looked at and and HSG should be done to check out your fallopian tubes. Hopefuly it will show no polyps or fibroids and a clear set of tubes. Any hormonal abnormalites can be adressed, then maybe you can take things from there. Are you edging twards 30? if you are I'd go sooner rather then later. -
stay hydrated and remember to drink your water protein shakes are key to killing the hunger and rember two weeks out you are still healing go easy on yourself still

Sex And The Lapband

I think that if a guy loves you he will not even be freaking out about any scars. maybe you should talk to him about it if you think things might be getting serious before you do any matress dancing. If you've been out for a meal I'm sure he's noted your choices for food and the "little" quanity you may consume. If he's not turned off by it then he's a keeper but if he is all "turned off " by the idea of scars or skin then maybe he's not the guy for you. -
January 19th very early in the am. So I finally got my doc's ok to start exercise again, and I willfuly worked out very lightly for about an hour today. I kept in mind that I had not done any vigorous activity in a while and I kept the treadmill on a low speed for a while (under 3mph) until things really warmed up and I knew I'd be allright. I had a good workout and I think I logged in a calorie burn of about 400 calories or so according to my calculations. I did some jillian michel's power walking level 1 i-fit card(way to dull but wht the heck), iand some introductions of some of the harder workouts programmed into my nordic track. (I have the t 5.3 and I hate it). It does not have nice cusioning for the knee joint and the belt is very narrow. but it was the smallest model that we saw that we knew would make it down into our basement ok. I feel really good I worked up a mild sweat and I ened up the evening doing some pilaties work to loosen up my legs, I hope this will be the start of a good thing. I'm not a "road warrior" I don't run but I will occasionally jog for about 5 min. or so to get things huffing and puffing. I did end the treadmill workout with some mild jogging and when I could take no more I slowed it down to a slow walk. I hope that as the weight comes off the treadmill will get easier and I won't detest it to much. any of you novice exercise people out there give me a shout.

Pre Op Surgery Causing Stress With Spouse?
icestorm12132008 replied to bandedgirl2012's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
has he gained weight? is he scared that maybe you will not find him attractive after you get to your goal? talk to him about it -
some groups are not for everyone and it's sad when cliques happen and sorta run the show. If the group does not suit your needs don't go. you can always come in here and i'm sure everyone would be happy to help you out.

I go in for my one month post op tomarow. as soon as I went on mushies about 3 days after that I just got hungery. I was fine up until then. I can't wait untill I get a fill this hunger sucks sometimes. I've lost about 40 so far since pre surgery and i'm happy and can't wait to see what 1/2 of my body mass index willl look like. I'm also kinda tired of mushies and it has me wanting real foods, but every doc. has their own rules on when you can start. -

90 pounds, is no small feat, go and give yourself a congrats, you deserve it. You look amazing. I've lost almost 40 since i started the pre op diet, and i'm glad that i'm loosing weight and my girl parts are comming back into my body, hopefuly i won't go flat as a board though. you look amazing and your post was a good read. -
bring suplies with you if you will have it most hospitals don't hand out tampons, and some floors don't even have feminine suplies unless their is a L&D unit in hospital. They will test for pregnancy anyway just as a precaution. I had mine the day of surgery and all i had to do was use a tampax, my cycle did lighten due to the preop die thought
