    Pre-Op Diet Blues

Every doctor has different "ok" to have on the liquid diet phase. you will be suprized at how you body can adapt if you keep hydrated with water/crystal light and make sure to eat 3 1/2 cup servings of low fat/fat free cottage chesse daily that really helped me from just loosing it you know. You can have all the suggar free pospicles, Jello, green tea, and broths you want. So I always had a warm mug of something in my hand. After day four you will adapt somehat and it won't seem so bad. When my family set down to eat supper I'd just quietly take a glass of icewater or beverage of choice and go up to my room and read for atleast 30 or so minuittes until I knew that supper was overwith. This is a very hard part of the journey but it's essential for surgery. Trust me hunger will dissapear durring this phase, just keep well hydrated.

Ttc With Pcos- Looking Into Lap Band.. Help :0(

Ok first of all and I don't mean this in a degrogatory way, I did do my research the lap band was recomended to me by my fertility specialist at boston IVFone of the top fertiltiy care centers in the United States. I currently have a band that has been in place since december 13, 2011. I've lost sixty seven pounds so far with the band and proper pcos friendly diet, exercise and the addtion of metformin therapy. I'm sorry the band has not worked for you sometimes these things just hapen. Every case with infertility and PCOS is different, they ran all the tests and concluded after seeing that my fallopian tubes and uterine structure was fine, that the reason for my part of the infertility was anovulation due to the obesity. Did your doctors try you on an insulin sensitizing agent after the diagnosis of PCOS? for many an insulin sensitizing ageint helps to loose the weight and to help to somewhat regulate the hormones. --icestorm12132008

Ttc With Pcos- Looking Into Lap Band.. Help :0(

First of all I take it you are currently obessee? the lap band system is designed for use with folks with 100 or more pounds to loose. If fifty is all you need to sheed I'd continue with your carb free diet and exercise along with your insulin sensitizing tablet. (glumetta?) If that tablet is not doing the trick I'd ask about metformin it is a stronger insulin sensitizing agent and many with pcos take it to lower their insulin and possibly give the body an easier time to ovulate. If you continue to gain weight as if often the case with pcos I'd deffinately look into surgery and you can get pregnant sometimes with pcos if your body dropps enough weight(they are called "band babies"). Look into the lap band and how the system works and ask questions about health durring pregnancy with the band with your surgon if this is the route you choose. I have pcos and i'm obesse I have about 80 or so more pounds to loose before I can even think about getting pregnant. But because i've lost over fifty so far, my doctor's office told me to be "careful". This pcos can be a real bear with the weight gain so keep an eye on your gain/loss and report any adverse effects to your doctor ASAP. Because it seems like with me overnight i'd put on fifty plus pounds, but also withn six months i've lost over fifty. **** luck let me know what you choose.--icestorm

    Pcos And The Lap.....

Hi, I too have PCOS and before banding I meet with a nutrtionist thru my fertility clinic and they diagnosed the pcos and put me on metformin 3x. daily. I do not eat carbs and I eat small meals and water and hydration is key. I also work out 3x week hard (cardio and weights) other days i do pilaties or just walking. The metformin was the missing pice for me along with the lapband the weight is finally shedding. The metformin also helped to regulate my periods and helped with the hormonal fluctuations as well. Talk to your MD/Endocrinologist about adding metformin also do you have insulin resistance that is marked by rashes along the body, that is indicitive of a bad case of insulin resistance. THe metformin totally helps along with the band. Ask to have you fasting alc tested. its a blood suggar test.

Any Ladies Out There With Pcos? Banded Or In The Process?

Many with PCOS are insulin resistant and therefore, have difficulty with carbs and suggars. I try to stay away from bread, rice, Pasta, suggars like swets. Thankfuly my band will not tolerate these items accept for the sweet items wich for many just slide right thru. I also hav e to be careful with salty Snacks as well. It is ok to have a carb free plate and if you find yourself shaky after working out maybe have a small carb item like a pice of fruit before a workout or a small baked potato but only eat 1/2. Some are put on Metformin and are quite sucessful with it. I would also recomend The PCOS Diet Plan by Hillary Wright The PCOS Workbook by Angella Grassi Both these guides give a good base for how someone with pcos should eat to mannage the disorder. This PCOS can make what we can put in our mouths either very good for us or down right toxic. PCOS is very closely related to diabetis. So if you are taking metformin monitor your suggars and be aware of any unusual symptoms to report to your doctor.

    Knee's Hurt Bad, Advice

as the weight comes off the pressure on the knee joint should be reduced. Until then I would suggest doing water aerobics if you can?
  11. icestorm12132008

    Minimum Calories...?

you have to work out to preserve muscle mass, you don't want to loose your muscle and be all fat, that would be bad. also you will feel better if you work out. shoot for the minimum calorie amount so you don't starve yourself, the body needs fuel to loose, and do some working out taht is light/moderate intesity.
  12. I would think that you should be on the look out for nausea and vommiting "morning sickness", wich doses not always just hit in the am. So your doctor can unfil your band if needed. I don't think any of the early signs and symptoms: (breast changes, no period or very light bleeding, nausea vommiting, and heacache). are any different then someone not banded. I hope your IUI went well and I wil keep my fingers crossed. I know waiting to test can be hell. Just follow your doctors instructions for testing esp. if you took any stimulation drugs as they can give faulse results sometimes.

Brand New To The Group - Lap Band Has Slipped

this is your body and your choice, don't ever let your dr. tell you otherwise. Congrats on your baby. I'd find a surgon who will be willing to either repostion your band or give you another type of WLS surgery. Many doctors completely empty the band durring pregnacy and some only partially deflate it. it depends on how well they understand what happens to your anatomy durring pregnancy. I'm so sorry your doctor is an idiot, find a new doctor asap.

    Stuck

ok "stuck" has for me two levels: 1. sorta suck: i get a tight feeling in my chest and if i take papya or pinaple juice and move around a bit or have a sip or two of water it moves along 2. really stuck: my chest hurts, i feel like i'm going to vomit and i actually get the urge to puke, and I foten do puke and when I do it hurts.

    Carbs - Yes Or No?

I choose not to eat carbs(pasta, bread suggars) on a regular basis because i have PCOS and my body reacts badly to them by piling on the pounds big time. I limmit my carbs to only when i know i'm going to be working out hard then i'll have like 1/2 cup of mashed plain potato or two slices of toast that is toasted well. I don't really miss the carbs and for me spagetti or pasta is a no no because it just sits in my pouch like a brick. Everyone is different I'd talk to your surgon about getting your suggar tested if you are worried about problems with diabetis or if diabetis runs in your family. I take metformin daily and eating low/no carb even before surgery helped me emensely. --icestorm12132008

Any Ladies Out There With Pcos? Banded Or In The Process?

i see there are alot of us with the PCOS that have decided to get the band. One thing I have noticved atleast with myself is if I eat any carbs the weight halts and if i don't take my metformin 3x day the weight also stalls. The PCOS does make it harder to loose and I wonder if smaller frequent fills might help us out more then getting them when we reach the yellow zone. I was in what i thought was the green zone for a few weeks then this month bamb the weight loss t stopped and i am deffinately eating more, dispite having a good amt. of fluid n my band and taking my metformin as prescribed and working out daily doing something. What scares me is what if I fill my band and i don't reach goal? then what?
  21. The rudest thing someone said to me in reguards to my decision to have a lap band was actually a conversation between my mom and my Aunt. About ten years prior my aunt's husband who must have easily been around 400 pounds when considering his surgery had a lap band placed. He lost almost 100 pounds on the band within around a years time. Over the last decade he stretched out his pouch, and now is heavier then he was before surgery. My aunt told my mom to talk me out of having surgery, and that the lap and is a waste of time that t did not work for my ucnle and that it would not work for me. I have not said anything to my Aunt on this conversation that she had with my mom, I figure I'll just waltz by her some day in a pervect size ten, and that will be the end of it. The lap band does not work for everyone, you have to really work at it to loose it and to keep it off, or so i've been told I've not yet hit matnience phase. What angers me is I went into surgery being ware of my uncle's failure and knowing full well that he was psychologically not ready, and yet he had it done anyway. that failure is on nhim and no one else. We have made a concious decision to have lapband surgery and their will be good days and bad just with any nutrtional diet plan their are peaks and valleys. I just don't understand how someone can ignore the warnings of fullness, and the more serious warning that you have eaten to much and resulted in vommiting. This surgery I did ultimately to give my body a chance to fight off the pcos that I ahve and also to give myself a better shot at living instead of the fat that was slowly killing me. The decision to have surgery is something between you, and your MD, if you have some that are in your corner that are friends and family that are suportive, grab on to that support, but if they are "band bashing" then ignore them, and do your best to work out eat right and in a year or so saunter past them as your new and improved self, that should speak volumes.

Lost One Pound In Two Months

Starvation mode, is a hard thing to know when you are at that point. usually the scale will be the only indicator that your body is fighting your efforts. Try to stay hydrated, and cotntinue to work out on a moderate pace. If you find that you are having hunger eat something small and thealthy. This journey with the band can sometimes be difficult as I'm finding out with my almost fifty pounds lost for weeeks my scale as not moved, and now this week finally some movement and i'm now down five more pounds, but i had an awful week and I was hungry and had a massive family event happen wicvh was not god. Who knows. Just stay within your calorie plan and eventually you will leve this plateau.

    Banded At 6Cc's

i have six cc in my band as well, for almost a month I was noticeably restricted due to period bloat, then after my ccyle resolved I'm now able to eat 3 meals a day without a problem. did you get a fill durring "that time" of the month? It can have an effect. My doctors office said that durring that time of the month some gals come in for slight unfils while other's focous more on liquids until things simmer down. Hope this helps.

    Getting pregnant with PCOS

In response to the question about the hair in relation to the PCOS. When the insulin resistance is high dark hair and abnormal growth(ie: male pattern) increases. They say that as you loose weight and get your suggars in control with diet, exercise and for many metformin. the hair growth in odd places does slow down. I have noticed after being on meformin for a while now that my hair in odd places is not as prevelant. It does not grow as fast either so i need to pluck less, but the hair still does grow in on the chin, just not other od places like the boobs. So hope this helps.
