Nsv - You Don't Look Like You Need A Band

yep folks can be as dumb as a box of rocks sometimes. I think what people don't understand when you tell them you have a lap band and you have reached goal, is that before the band you where obessee. And without the band you would go back to being as yo where before. Some folks just don't get why diet and regular exercise for some just don't work.

    Let's Start At The Beginning

this is the start of an amazing journey. Congratulations on your decision for surgery. As you progress with your liq. diet it will get easier. Just keep on drinking the crystal light and water it does help. After you are healed from surgery the real work begins. Start with light walking and head what your surgon says about the progressive diet from liquids to, mush, to soft, to solid Take your pain meds and sleep it off for the first few days if you need too, pain can be ricky esp. if they have you on a morphine shot pump that sucker will ware off in a few days and depending on your pain tolerance pain will become noticeable. Take your meds and sleep thru it. Also ice for your incision and a hot pack for your shoulders and gas x for the gas(strips). Walking will help with the gas . Congrats on the start of an amazing journey.

    Pcos

The cause of the excess hair in a male pattern, is from to much testosterone and also caused by insulin resistance. Have you been put on metformin therapy? I have found that with the combination of the weight loss from following a low carb, lower meat diet and with the additon of metformin and regular exercise alot of my PCOS symptoms tamed down. But what really helped was the additon of the lapband. I've now lost 68lbs and with keeping up with the metformin and working out i've noticed the male patterned growth of hair is less. I know some wommen have tried the olay hair kit thing, but it is pricey. I wonder if it's worked though. You can also ask your MD for a scrip for vaniqua it gets rid of the hair but the tubes are expensive they are like $100/tube not ins. covered. For me i've not found anything that i can afford pharmacutacally for me the old shave gel and razor works for the legs and underarms. For the face I pluck with twezzers. If you consider some of the other pharmacutical drugs for hair removal be very aware of what if any effects it could have on your intentions for pregnancy. I know some gals have gotten huge suprises after loosing say 70 pounds or so ovulation restores for some and suprises happen. I wish that was the case for me, but that looks not to be the case.

    Weight Loss, Periods, Mirena

deffinately go to see your obgyn having your period within a week of eachother is clarly dysfunctional uterine bleeding and needs to be asessed by your obgyn. Sometimes after not having a period for a very long time the lining just hangs on in the utuerus, then "sloughs off" due to the weight of the lining. I know being a womman is disucsting at times. Sometimes Provera can help to keep you regular or if you are not considering kids the uterine cauterization would deffinately help. but again talk to your obgyn

    I Cant Start Working Out!!

you are still healing up. Take it easy go for a spin around the mall and you can't start eral working out until your stitches are out anyway. Start light by doing walking then when you are ready start with light weights If you can't afford a gym membership there are plenty of workout vhs/dvds on the market. Leslie Samone 's walk away the pounds series is good for those going from no working out to something. then work up from there.

    Weight Loss, Periods, Mirena

Rose: If your cycle changes even with the IUD, if it becomes unusally heavy(clotting), painful cramps, longer in durration. Or scant almost non present. See your obgyn, that warrants an evaluation. And yes weightloss of fifty pounds or more can change our cycles. It can in some cases restore ovulation and make our periods more regular in time frame. So just keep that in mind.

How Big Is Too Big Of A Sip

you should not be "chugging" as the band when properly adjusted will act like a funel. The extra fluid that the stoma can not quicky accomodate will back up into the pouch and esophogus. Sip slowly. you can puke up water/other liquids.

    Walk

it does not matter what you do for cardio, as long as you do it. gardening is a wonderful activity for cardio, as is walking outside with your dog or doing a challenging pace at the treadmill on the gym. What matters is you start off slowly and work your way up to your "best" and work on improving from there. I know it's not easy esp. if working out was not a thing on your list before surgery, but exercise is a part of banded life. Also walking is easy anyone can do it and it's easier then some of those workout videos/dvds.

    Wedding Dress????

i know most brides are thin when they marry or their "best fighting weight", but for me I went in the opposite. I was my heaviest or pretty close to it when I married and my dress was the largest size i could get. After loosing 50 or so pounds I put the dress back on. it's "huge" on me now. I still think it is the prettiest thing I own and I'll probally never get rid of it. Of course my gown was not taken in or what have you I was lucky that i was able to find something "off the rack" for the big day.

    Clothes

I'd ask your doctor if they do clothing swaps or if they can put you in touch with someone who might be "around" your size. You can also try salvation army or saver's thrift. You might be suprized at what you might find. Just keep in mind that you are transitioning to the new you, so these clothes won't be permanant. Try to get pants that you know can be belted or tailored as you loose. If you are good at sewing sometimes picking a pattern or two and some fabric you like will yield good results. I can't sew but my husband does. It was worth it for us to invest in a good singer machine and some dress/top patterns at the fabric store(go when they have sales). The hardest part is finding fabric that you like. If you are good at it a dress or top might take a weekend or two, or in my husbands case a month. It saved us considerable money when you consider that if you are still "plus size" and are shrinking out of the spicialty shop you are still going to have to spend fifty bucks or more ona top only to shrink out of it? It might be cheaper to sew yourown, and fill in with thrift store jeans and such until goal size /weight is mett. --icestorm

    Weight Loss, Periods, Mirena

weight loss can effect your hormones and therefore your menstral cycle, I'd talk to the doctor that gave u the IUD.

    New With A Dilema!

Wow you are so lucky to have frozen embryos at your disposal. that means no stimulation meds for a stim cycle and you just have to do the second 1/2 of the IVF protocol wich is basically just like the embryo transfer that you did to have your other babies. As you are probally aware the higher the bmi the harder it is to properly dose meds at a safe level and for the treatment to be sucessful. what does your reproductive RE say? are they comfortable with yor bmi where it is now? or would only a slight reduction in weight be benifitial? the band is for folks that have 100 pounds or more to loose. I know what it must feel like when your biological clock is ticking (mine is screaming and i don't have kids yet and I need IVF to get pregnant (pcos+male factor). I would talk with your endocrinologist who helped you get pregnant last time and see what they have to say. Often with Lapband surgery they really encourage you NOT to get pregnant for up to three years after band placement due to nutrtional defficiency tha tmight arise. But sometimes "band babies" just happen. I've lost seventy two pounds since my banding and still no "accident". So who knows.(not preventing pregnancy at all...thank you pcos). looks like we will be trying to look into embryo donation/adoption as I get closer to my goal weight.

    Body Fat Calculation

I think that it is a heck of a lot more then the number on the scale and the "body fat calculator". Neither method account for skeletal size(small, med, or large frame) or how the fat is distributed wthin the body. I'd go by the number on the scale, how your clothes are fitting, and by how toned your muscles are getting by monitoring how much weight you can lift and repts. ect. Sometimes the eyes and how our clothes fit can tell more about health then the scale or the body fat ratio method.
  23. icestorm12132008

    Stuck Not Loosing Weight

Over fifty pounds is a huge amount of weight to loose so fast(that's the size of a todler or a young kid i believe). Give your body a chance to catch up(skin snaping back tissue shifting inside of body ect). keep working out and eating per your MD instructions and geting fills as needed. This is not a sprint but a marathon. Most loose all their weight in two years of banding.

    Acne?

it could be hormonal . sometimes after a good chunk of weight is lost, esp. if you are a female, the hormones change in balance due to fat loss and it can cause hormonal shift and cause acne.

104Lbs? You Should Be Losing That In Like 4 Months.

Sounds like we all got some insecure hubbys. My husband wanted me to have the surgery even though he said "whatever you want honey". he had alot of aprehension and fear. I know he was scared the day i went into the OR and he was so relieved when i came out asking for him after the surgery was over. I think we spend alot of time caring for everyone else and very little time caring for ourselves. We are going to have toask more of our spouses and sometimes I don't think they like that very much. I have some concerns about my husband and his expanding gut, and i think it is falling on deaf ears. I did this for my health now what will he do for his? is what i feel like saying. But you can't make them change if they don't want to. Go to a counselor and if that don't help things, some folks do divorce and it's sad because a marraige should be strong enough to survive something as simmple as a partner taking care of their health.
