take regular Vit. E. capsules and with clean hands and clean scar areas pop the vit E capsule and take the liquid in a small medicine cup and rub the vit. E. into your scars. The vit. e is kinda sticky but it helped to fade my scars considerably. My ugally purple scars are now almost faded and not so gristly looking. I did the vit. e. treatment for about six weeks daily after showering.

Is Your Diabetes Better Or Gone After Lbs
icestorm12132008 replied to genny's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
when i went for WLS(lapband) I was Morbidly obessee and i had PCOS(like diabetis but not insulin dependant). I was told by my R.endocrinologist that for some reason the WLS surgery of banding really helps the girls with the PCOS. I've lost seventy four pounds (around 1/2 of my excess weight) and my PCOS seems to be improving . But I still need the metformin to help keep my suggars in check. talk with your doctors about how WLS will effect and hopefuly change your diabetis fo the better ven with a lower bmi they might aprove you but that depends on the insurance company i think. -
For many if you are not properly hydrated prior to eating, it won't matter how much you chew you might get stuck on meat and protien. meat that is dry won't do well so make sure to cook in a method that won't dry the meat out. use a crock pot if you can. Or if you bake or roast let the meat stand for fifteen min or so before you carve it so all the jucies don't run out of it when you cut into it. take small bites and chew it till it's mush.

Job well done, congratulations I've got fifty more pounds to go before i see the 200 marker on the scale. I've heard that once you reach that 200lb mark the idea of "onderland" dances before you and can be elusive for some but we will all eventually get there. How are you doing besides the weight? are you nearing the end of the plus size department and venturing into the regular sized store? Can you see more of your bone structure and muscle? How loose are your clothes getting? again good work

Adding Protein Back In...but Think I May Be Doing It Wrong.
icestorm12132008 replied to smbonier's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you are only three days out from surgery. You are doing everything fine. I found if I had ice chips first or had 4oz of water first then 30 min. later if i did my protien i did beter with it but you are only 3 days out if you are only able to get in water popsicles and broths that's ok too -
if you can't get in atleast two healthy meals a day besides a protien shake in am, it suggests you are to tight and need some fluid taken out. if we don't feed our selves the right nugtrtion thru healthy foods we won't loose and we will gain. Also if we don't do some sort of working out we will also gain. This is just a tool not a magic wand.

Need Help With Protein Selection!
icestorm12132008 replied to destynee1's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
bariactric advantage it is designed for WLS patients it is a bit pricey at $60 for 3lb bag but it is worth it and the bags last you a long time . it keeps you full without all the extra sugar or other fillers you don't need. it is also good if you are lactose intolerant as it can be blended with soymilk if you chose -
Taking Meds
icestorm12132008 replied to Banana2363's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi, I use to work in a group home and we had several residents with crush orders. Get yourself a good pill crusher or if it is a capsule that you can take appart do that. pills can be quite bittter when crushed so we would often fold the crushed pills into a small teaspoon of chocolte pudding. . In another home I worked in the nurses would give crushed meds with hersey's syrup, that worked really well, but again it was a dementia unit. And for one assisted living facility i worked in they would crush meds and give it with some redi wip or some light youplait worked well -
nervous? that is a good sign for some. It's like beeing nervous on your wedding day this is a huge thing surgery it's a lifetime commitment just like a marriage. The liquid diet /pre op diet is very simmilar to how you will be eating for the first few weeks following your surgery. Trust me you can do it, we all did and can. Come in to chat for support and feel free to come and voice and concerns, or good and bad things we hear it all. or feel free to write a post. You are making a commitment to yoursel fand your health, these are the first days in a wonderful journey. I'm not gonna lie i had a mini freak out the day before my surgery, and i think it was healthy and i needed to get all of my what if's out of my head. For me so far the lapband has been the only thing that has worked. Welcome to the Lapband I hope you enjoy your jouney. --icestorm12132008

Pregnant And Searching For A Buddy!
icestorm12132008 commented on kissme's blog entry in Pregnant with the Band
hi, I'm not expecting yet, but can i give you some advice? Listen to what your obgyn recomends as far as your weight gain, and also talk to your lapband surgon about how to safely eat while pregnant and banded. The obgyn is looking for your baby to get the proper nutrtion via what you eat diet wise and maybe with the help of a nutrtionist and your lapband team you can give your baby the healthy nutrtion it needs for growth, and you can avoid the massive weight gain that for some comes with pregnancy via the old school of thought that momma should gain 50 for her baby. Congrats on your baby and keep me posted on how you are doing, as I'm hoping to get pregnant after i hit my goal with the lapband. -
girl I applaude you! Sometimes it is more then just "try to loose the weight and go to WW". There sometimes are other factors at play with obesity. I wish at 19 someone had said look you need lapband sugery. Maybe I would not have balloned up to over 300lbs. If you have other endocrine issues at play such as diabetis, thyroid issues and a high alc indicating PCOS. that should be adressed as if left untreated some of the problems such as thyroid dysfunction and problems with your blood glucose can impair weight loss even with the lapband. I wish you much luck on your jounrey and let me know how you are doing. hugs, icestorm

I think why bariactric surgery is still underutalized, is due to the insurance companies, not wanting to shell out for the surgeries, and making it very difficult for some patients who desperately need the surgery to obtain. I hope that more insurance companies ease up on their restrictions to help more of the obesse out there. I think the majority of those who look into Lapband have tried everything else and realize that lifestyle changes have to be made permenately for continued sucess.

yes a food scale is a good idea. you use it to put the cooked food on your plate to make sure it all totals 8oz. or a cup

you have done something awsome for your health, you took the bull by the horns and have done something about the current struggle with obesity. Question for you are alot of your collegues and aquantiances of a larger size? Are they maybe not noticing because they are jelous? Keep posting and I will keep on cheering you on. My little sister noticed at first, but then when I got thinner then her in looks and jean size, she stoped talking to me all together. I think she is wrestling with her own demons about the weight. I want her to talk to me about how she may or may not feel about surgery. I want to share the ups and downs with her. Keep on doing this for you and no one else.

3 Weeks Post Op- Aqua Zumba Queen...well Maybe...some Day
icestorm12132008 commented on Duhs9919's blog entry in Amanda's Rambles
Amanda drinking carbonated beverages is a huge no no, it can cause slippage, or possibly burst your pouch. Please no more fizzy drinks -
every surgon has a different protocol i guess. Some fill up fast and others go slow. I also think it depends on how much excess you have to sheed weight wise to be at the optimal bmi for your frame. Hope that helps.

get a hot pad for your shoulders and gas x strips for the gas and walk it off literally the walking helps move the gas used in the OR up and out of the shoulders, i know it's going to smart but you will feel better if you get up and walk every hour or so, not far just move to move the gas up and out.

Baby !
icestorm12132008 replied to jessicalynnestadler's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
first of congrats on your "unexpected" bundle of joy. THe weight loss initally probally kicked your body into gear for conception and you got your body healthy enough for conception, that is massive. Work with your MD and nutrtionist to get you back on track to loose the weight you need to, and to stay healthy for your new family. the snow has not flown yet so if yo u can bundle up your baby and go for a walk or do some aerobics or something when baby is napping. You can do it -

icestorm12132008 replied to Rita1576's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Lapband Or Gastric Bypass?
icestorm12132008 replied to chilet071's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The reason why I chose lap over the gastric bypas, was i did not like the idea of a huge verticl incision going over my thoracic cavity and the healing involved with that. Also you loose weight wickid fast on the bypas and as a result the skin does not get a chance to "snap" back due to a slower overall rate of loss of weight. but it also depends on how much you have to loose overall and how you will deal with aftercare and other issues. I encourage you to attend seminars on both options, and if you like one option over another, research several surgons that practice the method you chose. This is your body and ultimately your choice you have the right to decide who cuts on you. When you go for any informational meetings ask questions and write down your surgon's answers, and if he/she does not answer your questions then they are not the surgon for you. Some of the questions I asked where: -how long will I be under antestetic? -Are there any complications with this surgery? and how do you as the surgon plan to deal with any compications should they arise? -If you are female and considering having a baby in the near future ask about if the doctor recomends you be on birthcontrol prior to surgery and durring your Weightloss. Some doctors seriously recomend not getting pregnant for up to two years after surgery and weight loss. -what will recovery time be? out of hospital time ie: how many weeks off form work will i need -are you going to be same day surgery or kept overnight? these are just some questions but most importantly is how many of said procedures have you done? and most importantly have you had any serious complications such as death from surgery? Also if you are opting for a Lap band and you have a laytex allergy ask your surgon if the band they are using is latex free -
that is smaller then a dice, are you chewing it enough? 15-30 times before you swallow? or do you think your band might be to tight?
