How Long B/f Going Back To Work?
Afro_Cyster replied to ampage1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on Monday and was back to work the following Monday. 7 days. My job is somewhat sedentary, but my co-workers knew what I was doing so any heavylifting was done by them. -

Facial Hair & Hair Loss Question
Afro_Cyster replied to MyVSG2012's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in week two. I have noticed that the hair on my face is growing at a slower pace. I don't have any crazy ideas that it'll simply stop, so I'll begin laser hair removal when my hormones level out. -
I have been told by other posters that the protein shots Char mentioned should not be taken because they contain collagen. I have only been able to find one company that sells protein shots made for bariatric patients with 42gm per serving. I think it only comes in a few choices, but I figured I could put the Lemon-Lime or Watermelon in a Crystal Light Lemonade. Protein Bullet Shot http://bulletnutrition.com/medical/ Can be found at: http://www.supplemen...xc=4&sh=1&ing=1 but may also be found at other supplement stores Hope that helps. I'm going to order some soon.

Your hormones are out of wack from the trauma of the surgery, subsequent weightloss, and lack of calories. It may do that for a while. Nothing to worry about. -

You look beautiful no matter what you weigh. Congratulations! -
Try to find out what's happening to you. If you have insurance, make it work to your benefit. I wouldn't just sit on the problem because one doctor couldn't diagnose it.

My Family Freeked Out When I Told Them I'm Getting Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Afro_Cyster replied to Candyman's topic in The Guys’ Room
Someone on this board said something interesting a while back.......they compared this surgery to another lifesaving surgery. For example: Say if there was an automatic cure for diabetes. The cure required a 2-hour surgery. Would yor family be upset if you decided to undergo this surgery to save your life? Possible answer is NO. Now, say again, there is a surgery that could possible cure/ease the effects of an enlarged heart, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure. The surgery was 1-hour in length. Would your family be upset if yu decided to undergo this surgery to save your life? Possible answer is NO. So now ask, what is the difference between those surgeries and this one? NOTHING! This surgery isn't about vanity.....it's about living! -
My Family Freeked Out When I Told Them I'm Getting Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Afro_Cyster replied to Candyman's topic in The Guys’ Room
I totally understand where you are coming from. It may seem as though your wife and daughter's response is harsh, but I think it comes from a place of fear rather than that of disappointment. Also, because you just popped up with the news, they may also think that you haven't thought long and hard enough about this decision. As a gastric bypass patient, my dad understood the struggle I was going through. However, my dad also failed his surgery with his unchecked eating habits. He gained 100 of the 200 he'd lost. My mom used the excuse that I didn't need the surgery, that I just needed to make healthy food choices. She also didn't like the fact that the surgery would leave scars on my body. I am an athlete. I play softball year-round and am always outside with my dog. I suffer from PCOS which decreases my metabolism. That means that along with healthy eating and an active lifestyle, I only lost 2lbs in one month......very discouraging. I too pounced the idea of surgery on my family all of a sudden. I didn't give them a chance to work through the process of choosing a doctor with me. THEN, I told them that I was having surgery in Mexico and all three of them (third person being my brother) went NUTS!!!! So, I gave them all of the information I'd gathered so they could do their own research. And believe me they did. Each member spoke to my doctor individually. The main reason I chose Mexico was that my insurance wouldn't pay for the surgery, I wanted to get it done before the end of the year so I could get the tax deduction, and I wasn't able to find comparable care from doctors with lower rates in my area. I chose Dr. Kelly. He has a wonderful background, speaks fluent English, and was american trained. Also, the hospital he practices at is an actual hospital and has an ICU. I paid about $6,000 for the entire thing (includes airfare). Local physicians (up to 700 miles) with a max fee of $10,000 were negligent in certain factors. They hadn't completed many VSG surgeries, they literally considered the surgery outpatient because they sent you home the next day, and the fee wasn't all-inclusive. I could go on and on, but the main thing I think you should take away from this is to give your family time to accept the news and to include them in on any new decisions you must make. BTW.......both of my parents came with me to MX and even though my mom still nags me about getting cut, she's starting to understand that this was not the easy way out and I still have to work to drop the pounds. -

This product was made specifically for us. It does not include collagen. I may try it. Since my breasts seem like they've volunteered to be the first body part to loose all of it's weight during the first month, I've had to search for additional options to keep "my girls" floating above my navel . Push-up bras aren't cutting it as it seems as though my breasts seem flat across rather than plump and inviting. I don't know if they is an untapped market for bariatric bras that assist in keeping the breast skin from sagging, but if there is no such type of bra, I may have to resort to getting out the good ole cloth bandage and wrap my breasts to my chest. Anyone have a suggestion?

Walmart has Protein shots that give you around 26 grams per serving. I went to the store itself and purchased one with 42 grams. However, I haven't tried it. I'm going to blend them into a smoothie as I understand they can be tart. Try the link to check out what Walmart has to offer online. http://www.walmart.com/search/search-ng.do?search_constraint=0&ic=48_0&Find.x=0&Find.y=0&Find=Find&_ta=1&search_query=protein%20shot&_tt=protein%20shot

I'm so glad that they caught your stomach issue BEFORE it became a major problem. You seemed to come through like a trouper. I STILL have gas problems.....not all the time so it's more so annoying.

Feeling Lonely, Shaky, Hungry And Scared
Afro_Cyster replied to doglover's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
In the short......you've come to the right place. You are definitely not alone. As far as the housechores, leave it be, you shouldn't be lifting on anything. As far as the doctor, you MUST stand your ground to get the respect you deserve and any questions you have answered. Otherwise, there are always other doctors. As far as the hunger, early on I mistook gas for hunger pains (silly huh) but you'll come into your own. Be positive, your weightloss alone should prove that you are on the right track.
