Surgery friday....freaking out
thebandedman replied to Kellysue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on Tues the 25th and all went fine. I'm home recovering now. Once they got my IV placed I felt at ease and ready to go. After the PA gave me the happy juice in the pre-op room I remember nothing until I woke up after surgery. My wife said I was happy and pretty entertaining as they wheeled me off to surgery. TBM -
Had my surgery this morning so now I'm a Bandster too. I was up at 3AM for my pre-surgery shower with the special soap they gave me. Got dressed, checked my bag for needed documents and post-op items then my wife and I were on the way to the hospital at 3:45. We arrived in plenty of time for my 4:30 check-in. The process went smoothly and by 5:15 I was taken back to be prepared for surgery. The nursing staff were professional and friendly, that made me feel very comfortable. I had my IV started, blood thinner give, and a shot of antigas medicine in my tummy. My doctor, and some of the surgical team came guy to check on me and to ask questions. Finally the anesthesia tech came in with my "cocktail". I started feeling warm all over and that is the last I remember. I woke to a nurse saying are you awake, do you have any pain? I was very sleepy but happy to have no pain. As I was in recovery the nurse did give me some pain medicine a short time before I was too leave. I did some breathing with the Airlife device they gave to. I have to use it often each day while I'm healing. I then was taken to do my barium swallow and then they had me drink some Water 30 minutes afterwards. They had me walk around a bit and I was free to go home. I got home, walked a bit, napped a bit, and sipped my liquid Protein drink. I don't feel pain so took just 1/2 a dose of my medicine to keep me pain free. I did feel a little something in my left shoulder but a Gas-X strip took care of that. So now just resting, walking, breathing treatment, sip liquid, repeat. My incisions look tiny compared to others I've seen on this site and others. I am very very pleased with Dr. Kim and the staff at Forest Park Medicial Center. The facility is first rate and I felt treated with professional care and compassion. I'm glad my journey has started with such a positive step. Best wishes to the other Oct 25th Bandsters, have an easy and quick recovery. TBM

Oh once you can drink something thicker than Water the Jay Robb Whey Protein powder chocolate is very good mixed with 1% milk. 25g protein per serving from the powder plus good amino acids. It's an all natural product sweetned with Stevia. Whole Foods and a regional chain called Sprouts sell it or you can order online. TBM

Hi and sorry you are having a rough start. GNC sells Isopure drink 40g of Protein in a 20oz bottle. You need to dilute it with Water and it has a taste similar to the Now and Later candies. Grape and Green Tea seem to be the most popular flavors they sell. Whole Foods sells Proasis drink 25g protein in a 3oz test tube looking container. Again dilute it with water. Fruit Punch and Grape are recommended flavors. My doctors office suggested IDS New whey liquid Protein in fruit punch flavor. It's another test tube like container and dilute it with water. I hope you can find one of these and tolerate drinking it. TBM

I got my surgery appointment confirmed this afternoon. I check in at 4:30 AM for 6:30 AM surgery on the 25th. Think I'm the first surgery of the day . It's starting to feel real now, just a few days away. TBM -
