  1. I think they advise against drinking with meals because it just washes the food through the band. I have noticed that once I have a drink an hour and a half after I eat, i am almost starving again. So now I am trying to hold out longer or to just take small sips so I don't wash my remaining pureed food through the band.

    Hunger After Band!

I was banded on the same day and I am in the same boat as you. My calorie target is 800 with 70+ grams of Protein. I'm coming in under calories and always above on protein. I have noticed that even though I am drinking a ton of water, I am holding it in too. My fingers are even puffy. I keep hoping that when my TOM shows up the water will leave with it. I'm not that hungry but when I am I need some real food. I am moving into more stick to my ribs pureed Soups made with chicken and Beans. It is definitely helping with staying full longer. In my first week towards the last two days I was feeling really hungry. Food was everywhere on TV and the internet. I wanted to eat a house, but I knew that I really didn't and I held on. I did add a little Peanut Butter to my chocolate unjury Protein shake and that really helped. It gets better. Hang in there!

    12 Hours Banded

Sounds like gas. Its the worst effect of the surgery. I chewed a lot of gas x the first week. I also found that putting a hot compress on my shoulders helped. Walking is the best way to speed up the recovery as it helps with your circulation and pumps all the gas out.

    Does This Sound Ok???

Plain greek yogurt is a great alternative to sour cream or mayo.
  6. Hi Concept 57. Just checking in on you again. I hope you are getting better.

    Naval Incision

I also have five (three tiny ones and two that are a bit bigger. One below my breastbone, two tiny ones on each side, one larger one near my belly button, and the largest one is for my port.
  8. Hi, Just checking in on you today. I hope you are feeling better.

    Boost Made Me Vomit!

I really like the UnJury whey protein powders. They have a strawberry one that I mix with vitamin water zero or sugar free lemonade. It takes like a strawberry margarita! I also like their chocolate splendor. Its delish. Sometimes I add a little peanut butter and it tastes just like Baskin Robbins Chocolate N Peanut Butter Ice Cream,
  10. I'm one week post op and I made it through one week of clear liquids and a 10 pound weight loss. Yippeee! Saw the doctor today for post op and she said all looked great and removed my steri strips (they were irritating my skin). She then said I could move on to pureed foods. I was so happy because I have been STARVING the past 3 days. The kicker - I get to be on them for three weeks!!! Isn't that a long time? She said the extra time is because I had a hernia repair and she doesn't want to push it. Anyone got any creative ideas for pureed foods that don't include baby food or blended meat? Thanks!!!
  11. I also just had surgery on June 25th. I battled some really bad gas pains this past week. I chewed a A LOT of Gas X and I loved my microwavable heating pad. Walking also really helps. I've been doing lots of walking (an hour around Wal Mart), a visit to Target, the grocery store. It all counts and helps to move the gas out. It will get better once the gas subsides.
  12. I've been taking medication for reflux for over 10 years. I was on too medications to control it because it was so bad. Part of my reason for banding was to be rid of the reflux. During my surgery they fixed a hiatal hernia that could be to blame for my reflux. My doctor told me to stop taking my reflux medication the day I was banded. I've been good for almost a week now. Yippee!!
  13. I had surgery on Monday and most of my "free floating" gas has subsided. I mostly felt it in in my shoulders. It felt like my shoulders were really tense and I couldn't relax them. I've been using a warm shoulder wrap that I put in the microwave for 1 minute. It looks like stuffed animal stole hehe! I also put it on my tummy for a bit. It really helped to relax the muscles.
  14. I'm on day 3 post op and I'm doing great. The gas in my shoulders is almost gone and I'm getting around pretty good. The funny thing is that my tummy sounds like a monster lives in it. It growls and gurgles constantly. I'm keeping up on my protein drinks (about 80 protein grams/ day) and lots of other fluids. Last night I was able to resume normal "movements" so I'm not holding anything in. I just find the constant gurgling and growling funny. Even my dog noticed it. LOL

    Gained On First 24 Hrs?

I also put on 6 pounds the day after surgery. It is all fluid. On day 4 it finally went away and I am back to the weight I was the morning of surgery.
  16. I live by myself with my 2 dogs and my Mom is coming to stay with me after the surgery. How long do you all think I will need her to stay with me? She is scheduled to be with me the night before and after surgery. Do you think I will need her to stay much longer? I'm mostly concerned about not being able to get out of bed or stand up on my own. I'm also concerned about having to bend down while placing my dogs' food bowls on the floor. Thanks!
  17. My surgery is on Monday too!!! Whoo Hoo!

    Stepping Stones Of Success

Congrats Benjamin! You are definitely a success story. Keep up the good work!
  19. Thanks for the info. I have a chihuahua and a boxer (they are the best of friends). I've got a doggy door for them so I don't have to worry about letting them out or walking them. Even though the chi doesn't bother using it except to bark at the neighbors ) She'll go potty outside if she "happens" to be outside when the mood strikes her.
  20. I'm wondering what you all ate/ drank the day or two after surgery? I understand that I'll be on clears, but I'm just trying to understand the quantities. Ex - whole popsicle or just a bite or two, cup of jello or just a bite? Also, did you start drinking your protein shakes right away?
  21. BreBre, Please hang in there. Someday you will be able to eat hamburgers again. You just won't want to eat as much. Give it some time and follow the band rules and you will be sooo very happy. Hugs!!!! BTW- I am sure I will be saying the same thing two weeks from now, once I am banded

Broken Out In Hives All Over Body!!!

Have you been taking antibiotics or any other kinds of medications?
  23. I am so excited! I finally have a surgery date! I am scheduled for Monday June 25th. I can't wait. Yippeeee!!!!
  24. It could be a spitting stitch. Sometimes the self dissolving stitches will push their way out. I had a ton of them for months after my breast reduction.
