female sleever from connecticut !!!!!
Festabird replied to shannoninct's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think you are absolutely doing the right thing. My parents were both very morbidly obese and I was overweight for most of my life too. Unfortunately there was not the opportunity for this kind of thing when I was young, so had to wait till I was 54 to have, but I am very happy now. How much weight do you have to lose? They told me I would lose around 70 lbs., but I have lost almost 90 lbs. I am eight months out from my surgery and my weight loss has slowed way down. I think I am about where I am going to be now. I went from a size 20 to a size 10. -

Hi Krissy - wow you are really young to be going through this already, but it was the best thing I ever did! Where are you having your surgery? I had mine at St. Rapael's in New Haven. I have lost almost 90 lbs.!! It has been an amazing journey. -

11 Days Post Op And Regretting Decision.
Festabird replied to Chrissy Rios's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Chrissy, I am almost 12 weeks out from my gastric sleeve surgery and have just started going out to eat with my husband. I feel absolutely wonderful and do not regret my decision at all. I am down 51 lbs. and feel 20 years younger (I'm 54 yrs. old). You will learn to think totally differently about food. I was a comfort eater too and was so terrified about "after" the surgery as well. You learn to eat just what you need. It is a process and sometimes you screw up and don't feel to great, but it's all part of learning. When you slowly introduce new foods you do it at home in very small quantities. Hopefully your doctor's office has given you good guidelines. Please stick to them and call your doctor's office if you need help. The only problem I had was learning to recognize the feeling of my new little stomach being full. You really have to pay attention to that. But things get easier and life gets great when that scale starts dropping. I am off two medications already and down four clothes sizes. Great payoffs. Hang in there and we are here to help you as well. Robin -
8 days Post-Op Clear Liquids
Festabird replied to tlong's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you doing any protein shakes? The protein is what really helps keep you from being hungry. I was only on clear liquids like two days then into Low Fat Full Liquids which include the protein shakes. They are the staple of my survival. My doctor wants me to have 8-12 ounces of just liquid protein which is about 20 grams of protein or so depending on what kind of shake you are doing. I would call and see if you can have a shake. They help a great deal. -

Hi Shannon, I'm also from CT, am 54 yrs. old and was just sleeved on Nov. 7th so this is all new to me. I would love to be friends and share our experiences. Let me know what you think. Thanks. -
I had my sleeve on Nov. 7th at St. Raphael's hospital with Dr. Geoffrey Nadzam. He is an awesome surgeon and I am doing really well. St. Raphael's is a Bariatric Center of Excellence and Dr. Nadzam's staff is phenomenal. I cannot say enough wonderful things about them. I feel terrific for only 5 days out and hopefully each day will just get better.

Got sleeved november 8th
Festabird replied to Klove404's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had my sleeve on Nov. 7th and came home on the 9th and I must be extremely lucky because I feel really terrific!! The first day in the hospital I had some pain, but only took pain medication twice and have had none since. I am making my own protein shakes and having one (16 oz apprx.) per day and about 20 oz of water per day. I'm sleeping fully through the night and just have a bit of soreness. I consider myself very lucky. Must have had a terrific surgeon!!
