  1. Last "official" appointment with surgeon today!! So close!! 17 days and counting!

  2. I'm so excited! Today at 1PM I will have my last "official" appointment with my bariatric surgeon before surgery! I'm hoping today I get a lot of questions answered. I've heard a lot of people talking about getting a endoscopy but my doctor hasn't even mentioned it once. It's a little annoying because my surgery is only 17 days away and I know I may have to take off work for this. I feel like there are a lot of things I still don't know. My surgery is on a Monday, so I'm wondering if they will be doing the endoscopy and blood tests the day before, which is a Sunday. Oh well. I should get answers today. I'm also wondering if I should maybe start the pre op diet early...or at least, part of it. I haven't really lost (or gained) any weight since I started this journey 6 months ago so I figure the more weight I lose now, the better. I probably won't do the extreme, just two protein shakes and a normal meal. These are all the random thoughts running through my head! I still have the worry that I'll get all this done, and they come back and tell me the insurance won't cover it. The office I go to seems so unconcerned with this, that it has made me unconcerned as well. But I've heard horror stories on here and now I'm starting to worry a bit. I don't understand why they would schedule the surgery if they were uncertain about me getting approved. Another worry of mine. The doctor I usually go to has left the practice so the last couple of times I've gone, I've went to someone new. I don't like him, and he doesn't really know me. I doubt he even knows I'm getting this surgery done. I'm slightly worried he won't approve me for this surgery. But considering his old partner is the one who referred me, he probably can't. Has anyone not been given their primary doctors approval? Just curious! Alright...well that's enough of my ranting for today! I may blog again once I get back from the appointment.

    Birth control

I'm not on any type of birth control, but my sister had bypass and now takes birth control in the form of a shot every few months (at home). Might want to talk to your doctor about that option. However, she gained about 75% of her weight back partly because of it. The thought of IUD's freak me out too for some reason. :/ Good luck!

    Personal Trainer

I have been seriously considering getting a personal trainer for after surgery. For those of you that have one, I have a few questions: 1. Has it been beneficial to you and why? 2. Do you HAVE to be a member of a gym or is there a way around that? 3. How much is average cost? 4. Should I try to find someone familiar with training after bariatric surgery or will anyone due? Thanks in advance!!!

Anyone heard of a WLS "card"

I've heard of it. I think I also heard that you can make one up yourself. It's just a discreet way of letting the waitress know about your situation.
  6. 19 days away..and the nerves are kicking in!!

    19 Days (reminding myself)

Only 19 days until surgery! I feel like today is the first day that every time I think about the surgery, I get a weird feeling in the pit of my stomach. Not that I'm second guessing myself, I guess it's just anxious energy. I do have to remind myself occasionally why I am going this route. All my tests came back good, I have no sleep apnea, no heart problems, nothing wrong with me that people would usually relate to being obese. I'm sure those problems would probably come later though. However, I have noticed a lot lately that when I start to walk after sitting for a while, my legs hurt. I feel like I'm limping a little until my legs get used to it. It's a very odd feeling and I've only noticed it for the past few months or so. Has anyone else experienced this? Also, I helped out with a childrens Halloween party on Sunday, and that night, I felt like EVERYTHING hurt (thanks to a lively game of Simon Says) and I was extremely tired the next day. One of the main reasons I am doing this, is because I desperately want to have children one day. Sorry for the TMI, but there was a time when about 3 months went by and I didn't have my period. I am usually pretty regular and got really spooked. Hence the reason I started to research WLS. I am a bit anxious for reactions I may receive after surgery but I'll jump that hurdle when I get to it. Well I guess that's it for now.

    Nothing to Report

Nothing too exciting going on right now. I've ate like a pig the last couple of days thanks to the bank I work at having customer appreciation week. Cupcakes, candy, pretzels, doughnuts, pizza and muffins all around! Thankfully, I haven't gained (or lost) a single pound. I'm sure it will catch up to me though Next week will be a fresh start. I should be glad that preparing for this surgery has made me more aware of what I eat. Before, I would never even feel guilty about eating like I have the past two days. At least I can recognize the bad habits and learn from them! I'm contemplating starting my pre op diet early. I believe I'm only required to be on it for 10 days, but I may start a week earlier than that. Surgery is only 23 days away!! Sooo excited!!!
  10. It's weird, but the seminar is one of the last things I did! I didn't learn anything new that I hadn't already researched myself. I originally was only supposed to be in this process for 3 months, but thanks to an insurance mix up, it stretched to 6 months. Because of that, I had all tests and evals completed early on. Good luck!

    How long off work?

Hello! Because I am young and reasonably healthy, I only took a week. I am having my surgery on a Monday and I go back to work the following Monday. I have a mostly desk job as well. I have warned everyone that I may be extremely tired and not up to par when I come back and they are okay with that. Worse comes to worse, I'll leave early, but I don't anticipate that. You may want to do something similar. Start with a week, but warn them that if complications arise, you may need to stay out longer. Also let them know that if you are at work, you will not be at 100 percent. Just an idea! Good luck!!

    How do I tell people?

I never told my boss, I just requested the time off. If you have the time available to you, do not feel pressure to tell her. Unless, of course, you want to. I think we instinctively know who we can talk to about this decision...and the ones who we know would just be negative about it. I have told everyone I work with (except my boss because he's new and I don't know him that well), my immediate family, and most of my friends. There are two friends that I haven't told. I'm not sure why, but something inside of me just knows they would not be supportive. If they ask after surgery, I will tell them. Oh and by the way, everyone I HAVE told, is super excited and supportive. Just listen to your gut. If you feel like you shouldn't tell you boss, then don't. Good luck!

    endoscopy tomorrow!

What exactly does an endoscopy do? Is this something that gets done right before surgery? I'm guessing it's not something everyone has to do? Just curious!

    Hair Loss Finish Line?

Wow! I have to say these are the scariest posts I have read yet! lol. My doctors have only mentioned hair loss once but said that as long as we take our vitamins and make sure we get enough protein, it wouldn't be a big deal. Now I'm starting to think other wise. My hair has always been on the thin side, and it is quite long. I guess I wouldn't freak out if I lose some hair, I just dont want it to be obvious to other people or to cause bald spots! Scary!!

    No No Food

I was just asked by a coworker if there is any type of food I absolutely won't be able to have. I'm told by the doctors that there isn't but I've also heard everyone is different. I'm just wondering what the consensus is on this? What are you unable to tolerate after the surgery? I've been told some people can't eat spaghetti, milk based products and non toasted bread...oh and alcohol is usually a no no for a while. Anything else? Thanks!

    I'm not crazy!!

So my psych eval went like this-I sat down, he asked where I worked and what I did, signed a paper, and out I went. 80 bucks for that??? Actually, I don't mind because I know a lot of people pay more and often have to go to more than one session. I'm thankful that it was painless. I guess I looked and spoke like a normal, logical person. Now I only need to get my primary doctors approval and I'm finished with all the insurance requirements. Yay!! Only 26 days left until surgery!! Tonight I have my second to last Nutritional class. Getting so excited now that I'm nearing the end.

    I'm not crazy!!

Wow! Yeah this psychiatrist didn't even except my insurance. When I first started 6 months ago, I called one that DID except my insurance and she said that I would need to front the money (which was about 350) and they would give it back to me once the insurance gave them the money. I didn't want to do that. It stinks you had to pay so much!

    Psych Eval today!

It was a rough weekend and has been a rough morning. Thankfully, I finish up work in about an hour, then I head off to my psych eval! I have no idea what to expect, but I'll make sure to blog about my experience tomorrow. Only 27 days until surgery!!

    Only One Month Away!!!

In exactly one month from today, I will be having the surgery that will change my life forever! I CAN'T wait!!! So excited! And in other good news, I am down 2.2 pounds from yesterday. Not sure how it happened (did have a lighter breakfast this morning) but I hope I can keep it going! Only 7.8 pounds to go to meet my November 11th goal of 10 pounds.

    Bypass to Sleeve?

My sister had a gastric bypass a couple of years ago, and unfortunately, has gained about 75% of her weight back. I've told her a lot about the sleeve and she asked me if it's possible to get a revision from Bypass to Sleeve. I had no idea. Anyone know? Thanks!

Medicare Coverage For Gastric Sleeve Surgery?

My doctor said a couple of weeks ago that medicare was going to start approving the sleeve procedure REALLY soon. Good luck!!
  24. When I go on my pre diet, I'm only allowed to choose from 3 or 4 different Protein Shakes. I know one of them was Undry which you can only get online, but I believe EAS is the other one. I'm not sure how it tastes, but it's doctor recommended! Do you have a GNC local? I know they are more expensive, but there is more to choose from plus, the people there know what they are talking about. I actually really like going in there! Good luck!
