I searched for MMSI when I was first researching WLS options. I wanted some information regarding their requirements and turnaround time, but I couldn't find anything. I've since been approved and want to share my experience. My particular plan covers 90% since my provider is in-network. There is no coverage for out-of-network. The requirements for coverage are to have a BMI over 40 or a BMI over 35 with one co morbidity, complete a psych evaluation, and attend behavior modification group. There was no supervised diet requirement. My paperwork was submitted by my doctor's office on July 31st, 2013. I received my approval on August 8th, 2013.

I'm with you. It's almost easier to stick to the liquids than to move to purée.

I'd drop the sugars and track sodium instead. I use MFP, too, but I actually write my food down on paper before I transfer it in anyway. It's all about what works for you!

Wow, that's so weird. So a person would be best suited to have one on Aug 30, Sep __, and Oct 1. That doesn't seem fair. My surgeon required a 12 week behavioral program that met once per week. My insurance required 6 months of a monitored diet. Monitored meant having a checkup at and then one 6 months later. WLS is a huge mess of different things for different people. Good luck!

PB2 is awesome. I was just reading about the nutrient difference between it and regular Peanut Butter. WOW! I'm gonna try it in a Protein shake this week. Your surgery date is tomorrow! Congrats!!

When I was in the hospital, the Burger King french fry burger was on so many times that I almost wanted one! I couldn't even drink Water, and my stomach felt like it blew up, but I actually thought I wanted a french fry burger. Crazy the power of commercials! I'm at ten days. I am particularly missing cheese and grapes. Hang in there!

How far are you out from surgery? What were your Surgeon/Nut guidelines? Your doctor may not be well-versed in WLS. I'd consult the Surgeon/Nut.

Tracking vs Not Tracking- Thoughts?
JP0P replied to swmassey126's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only a 10 days out, but I started tracking yesterday. It's really helping me to keep track of what I'm eating. If I waited for my tummy to tell me I was hungry, I wouldn't get anything in. If I were you, I'd give it a try. You can always stop if it's not beneficial. -
It's amazing, isn't it?! My clothing is fitting so much better. I didn't even realize that they were tight to begin with. Are you tracking your protein intake? I was surprised at how little protein there is in food. Anyway, congrats, and keep going!

I was on 64 oz Gatorade (not diet) and diluted fruit juice for 7 days. Then to purée for 3-4 weeks. I have my first check up at that point and I move to mechanical soft for 3-4 weeks. Check up. Then soft for 3-4 weeks. Check up. Then regular diet. I thought the lack of full liquids was odd, too, but I promised to follow doctor's orders. Thanks for the tip on meat based soups with milk powder. What is milk powder -- like protein powder, or just reg powdered milk? Do you have any meat based soup recommendations? I tried a cheeseburger soup last night. It was eh.

I was sleeved on 8/30 and left the hospital on 9/1. Dr ordered one week on clear fluids (no protein). I kind of started purées on Sunday, but it's not going well. I'm not getting my 64 oz fluids and I'm definitely not hitting 60 g protein. I found one protein shake (Click Espresso) I can tolerate in terms of taste and have realized that its responsible for my urgent diarrhea -- so it's back to the drawing board. Good news is I'm down to 280 lbs today (that's 21 lbs post-surgery). I'm going to try Nectar Unflavored with SF pudding later tonight. Anyone try that? Also, what's the word on baby food? Anyone use it? My Magic Bullet died on me, so I'm waiting for my replacements: a B&D food chopper and an Oster Beehive blender. They should be here tomorrow. Yayy!

I'm in pre-op awaiting my surgery. I'm third in line; the first is done, second has been started. Can't wait to be in recovery!

Beautiful! Great job! -
Interesting thread... Besides being a stay at home mom to my two kiddos (one is on the autism spectrum), I am in my final year of school -- a couple requirements shy of a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies.

The hoops are certainly a challenge -- glad you're finally through! Good luck with insurance! Mine went through in about a week. Hope yours is just as speedy...
