Finally found the food tracker that works for me
DougNichols replied to Globetrotter's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
From using both, my perspective: FS (FatSecret) has more foods. I was setting up custom foods for everything (Chunky Soup, Isopure, Atkins shakes, fast food, dozens of other things). It even has grocery store custom items (Albertson's soups). It also has many things I buy from Whole Foods. These things I had to setup as custom foods in Fitday, and I hated it. FS lets you setup meals. In Fitday I had this huge spam of food (5 ingredients for my turkey sandwich, all kinda custom foods, etc). Fitday doesn't split it up into breakfast/lunch/dinner, but FS does. I like the organization of meals better, it's easier to understand. Fitday logs me out too often, I'm always online with FS. You can see other people's diets and results, and have buddies and such. Plus the FS site is faster (much) for me at least. -

Just finished my sleep study - ugh
DougNichols posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I got there on time, but some guy before me had ordered some equipment and was standing at the counter arguing with the lady for over an hour. He insisted that she shred his credit card information and form that he filled out, then hand him the shreddings. :confused1: After another 30 minutes of her calling the boss to cover her ass, I finally got into my "room" and hooked up. When they say "like a hotel room", it's just a bed, TV and fan. Their satellite didn't work, so when I tried changing the channel it said "updating from satellite" forever. So no TV for me. There was a shower down the hall, but it was really gross so I didn't bother. The hookup process took 30 minutes, and involved her putting some medical goo all over my face and hair, then attaching about 50 electrodes. They measure your head, and put little X's all over it like a treasure map. Some are stuck right next to your eye, so you can't sleep on that side or it pokes you in the eyeball when you lay on your side. Once done, I was laid in bed and couldn't do squat except sleep. It's like being in a full body cast... :scared0: She jacked the fan on HIGH and turned the light off before leaving. It was colder than a freezer in the room, which was awesome. I'm sure the 3 other fat guys taking the study next to me were happy too (it's hot outside). Of course, I can't sleep with all this sh*t on me. Especially the one covering my nose. This study is supposed to determine if I have trouble breathing, but then they have this huge device right under your nose. NOW I HAVE TROUBLE BREATHING, THANKS. My big wad of wires kept getting disconnected, so they came in several times to fix it. They poked me awake at 5am (on a Sunday, ugh) and removed all the electrodes, leaving this sticky medical goo all over my face and head. Plus my forehead now looks like a pirate's hidden treasure map. I had to fill out five forms asking if I snored (how am I supposed to know?) and such, then left. -

Ick, I can't watch more than 2 minutes of either video ... But I do see why the doctor wants to shrink your liver before surgery. -
Losing too much weight before surgery cause insurance to cancel?
DougNichols posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey guys! If I really apply myself, I can lose weight fairly quickly. So I'm concerned that once I go on this mandatory insurance-hoop 4-month diet plan that I'll drop quite a few pounds (which is a good thing, only problem is that I'll gain it back). So if I lose enough weight, will insurance say "just keep doing that, you don't need the surgery - DENIED" ?? I'm wondering if I need to regulate the weight loss, and not lose a ton during that time period. thanks -

That annoying vocal minority makes many of us not tell anyone we're planning weight loss surgery. Although they may be 10% of the population, they rattle their jaw 200x more than anyone else about it, even though it's just their opinion.

Poll: To tell or not to tell co-workers
DougNichols replied to Texanatheart's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My boss knows I'm planning this, because of the mass amount of doctor's appts. Other than that, I'm just saying "Atkins did it". -
Grats dude! Post some pics and keep us updated.

Have you guys been to Cheesecake Factory? I used to go there for Sunday brunch. Their omelet plate was the size of a small pizza, and it filled the entire thing. My "side of sausage" which had to be 1/4lbs was on another monstrous plate. Even when I was 380+ lbs, I couldn't finish all that. Oh, and Sonic started serving 1/2lb coneys. Because apparently a foot long chili dog isn't enough food... You can make it a combo and add a 1,400 calorie shake and 700 calorie onion rings to make a meal of ... 3,200 calories. :thumbup1: Good lord.

Awesome, I subscribed. :001_tt2: You should let your husband get on camera, so we can see his size loss as well. And the earrings were kinda cool. Edit: WOAH I just watched your "2 weeks after surgery" video. You look like a totally different person! -
What are you telling work?
DougNichols replied to TnT's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I originally was gonna tell my fellow employees, but now I'm saying "Atkins". Everybody has heard of Atkins, and knows it's a huge weight loss alternative. My boss already knows, but that's kinda necessary considering all these Dr appts. -

Lean Cuisine Anyone?

I like the chicken Caesar and shrimp alfredo ones. I started eating these on lunch for my own 'custom blend' insurance-hoop-jumping-diet. -
Aetna...who has it and what did you have to do for coverage?
DougNichols replied to TnT's topic in Insurance & Financing
My psych appointment is ONLY doing the large 500+ question test (and chatting with him). Their office said they are NOT doing the behavior mod program. I'd call your surgeon's office to figure out where you go. You definitely want to be 100% sure. Please let us know what they say, I'm confused too (since my surgeon's office said the nutritionist will "take care of behavior mod and exercise requirements"). And now you're saying that yours didn't. I'm taking my little happy handout to the nutritionist on my first visit, and asking her how I sign up for the behavior mod/exercise. Worst case, I'll do monthly visits with a certified trainer at my gym, and have her document EVERYTHING. -
Don't forget that sometimes you lose inches, but not weight (due to more muscle buildup, water retention, etc). So the scale is not always the most accurate way to judge total fat loss.

I know that the ghrelin removal is one of the bigger selling points to sleeving. I'm really curious to see, long term, what the difference is in hunger between plication and regular sleeves. -
Nervous about Mexico Surgery!!
DougNichols replied to davidblackmisty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If I did self-pay or Mexico, I'd definitely go for the behavior modification program OF SOME TYPE. Just to figure out why I have such issues with food, and develop a plan to resolve these. Otherwise the surgery is just a stop-gap measure for 2 years until you return to your bad habits.
