    Singing...} Boogie One-Derland!

Just made it to ONE-derland! (Does anyone remember that song, Boogie Wonderland by Earth, Wind, & Fire??) Well, I been singing it all day. Yesterday, I weighed in at 200.0 pounds, but this morning I weighed in at 199.6. To celebrate, I bought myself a cute blouse in a medium (and I must say I look super cute in it); it's off the shoulders with a mixture of blue colors and I'm gonna wear it with my skinny jeans when I cook this Wednesday for my family. I must add, I didn't get here easily. It's been the gym 5 days a week (sometimes there at 4:00am), watching and logging what I eat, along with a mixture of stalls and even a few weight gain weeks, and of course I work full-time and I am pursuing a master's degree. When I don't hit the gym, the scale does NOT move (even with the sleeve). So I'm gonna celebrate my new super cuteness then hit the gym again to get the next 64.6 pounds off! ...dancing in boogie ONE-derland...

Will We Have To Sip Forever?

I thought I'd happy to nickname myself "Sippy," but I'm glad to say that in time, I was able to drink normally again and so will you.
  5. I'm cold, too. I have 2 electric heaters at work and I keep a blanket over me at night, lol!
  6. Congratulations! You are doing an amazing job, thanks for posting.

    Water while working out

I'm 4 weeks out and more than 6-8 ounces during my workouts makes me nauesated and crampy. Before surgery I drank 8-20 ounces easy. Do what feels right for now and maybe try to pre-hydrate for your workouts.

    Too Good To Be True?

This was very encouraging. I'm glad your surgery and postoperative phases have gone so well. Thanks for the post.
  9. About a week without a bowel movement post op is normal and the first one will probably small anyway. I did 2 weeks of pre op liquids, nothing by mouth for the day of surgery and one day after surgery; when I did start "eating" I could only drink about 30 cc of liquid at 15-30 minute intervals, so I was not worried about not having a BM. What was your pre op diet and what is your current intake, consider these before you think you really "constipated." And Milk of Magnesis is great, too. Good luck!

    Gastric Sleeve Swelling

That seems super early to be on those types of foods. I don't start those kinds of foods until I'm at 5-6 weeks post op. Currently I'm 2 1/2 weeks out and I'm taking clear to full liquids and creamy soups that have been strained. I would suggest you discuss how you feel with your doctor and if you still feel like that, I would probably scale back on the types of foods you are eating. You will be swollen for a while and those foods have to go down a swollen little funnel (and you don't want to be streching that new pouch out so soon). Best regards!

    The right choice for me

    Thanks everyone!

    The right choice for me

The sleeve is the right choice for me. I am currently 224 pounds, down from my highest weight of 265. I no longer have to take high blood pressure pills or the diuretic that went with it, I'm off Lipitor, I no longer need my cumbersome CPAP machine to sleep at night, my plantar fasciitis is resolving (no pain), and I don't believe I will be diagnosed with diabetes. Im staying focused on the right diet and I'm exercising on a regular basis. When I first thought about surgery to lose weight I thought it was a bit of a cop out, but I don't believe that anymore. The choice to have the sleeve is an irreversible lifetime commitment and I'm learning how to live on this new journey everyday. I have no regrets and I'm looking forward to a healthier me. Godspeed to all of you.

    Gas & More Gas.....

LOL! I hoping it will slow down, too, but it hasn't yet for me and I'm 2 weeks out. Good luck! :Banane57:

    Question

Warm liquids seem to go down better for me. And I double or triple up my Protein. For example, 8 ounces of 1% milk = 8 grams of protein, 1 packet of carnation instant breakfast mix - 5 grams of protein, and 1 scoop of Jay Robb's whey protein = 25 grams of protein. I mix all this together and wham, a totally of 38 grams of protein in my 8 ounce morning shake. You can add more milk to it as I sometimes do, up to 12 ounces of milk and that makes the shake not too thick and ups the protein content again. Two shakes twice a day is 76 grams of protein. Hope this helps. Try powering up your protein, but always make sure your sleeve is comfortable, best to you!
  19. I'm about 2 weeks post op and I remember those 1st 4-7 days post op vividly. What I would do is use a 30 cc medicine cup and literally follow the clock and drink those 30 cc's every 15 minutes. I had ticker sheets from my doctor and the hospital, I made several copies and used them at home as well. I like to start early (at 4am or 6am) in the morning because I did not want to go back to the hospital for dehedration either. When I was uncomfortable, I would stop drinking for an hour or two, until I was able to drink comfortably again. Another thing I did (and am still doing right now) is using those baby sippy cups with the3 little holes in the top of the cup to drink from. It reminds me to take very small sips and I usually only put about 3-4 ounces in it which is the amount you should finish drinking in about an hour. Also, you still have swelling right now and your sleeve may not be all that agreeable with milk and Protein shakes. At the very post op stages, I drank very warm liquid broth and counted that as "liquids" as well. My doctor and his staff told me that at the very early stages hydration is the most important thing, not protein. Protein will become more important in the next few weeks. I really felt like geting in 60 ounces was a job because I worked on it from like 6am to 10pm at night. I would also keep 4 ounces of liquid at my bedside at night just to try to get a little in whenever I woke up. Hope you are feeling better!

    Working my sleeve

I've been walking 3 times today: 8am, 12noon, and 6pm. It really helps to dispell some of the gas and my goal is to be a vertical sleeve gym rat (trying to avoid plastic surgery if at all possible).

    Repositioned

For my brief transitional period, I've nicknamed my sleeve "Eve" and I am learning that she is in control, lol! I tried to eat a cold popsicle, but Eve said no, I'm not ready yet and stomach cramps ensued. I was gonna skip one of my walks for the day, but Eve the sleeve said, No ma'am. I want to want 1 1/2 miles right now. So I got up off the couch (with stomach cramps) and the more I walked, the happier Eve became. I always used to hear that your gut is your second mind, but currently, my gut (aka "Eve the Sleeve") is my first mind and I am doing as she says because the consequences are relentless cramps. I wonder if she'd like flowers or a poem. Oh, Eve...how I love thee, let me count the waves (of cramps!) LOL! Oh, I'm repositioned alright, albeit...dethroned!

I had my vertical sleeve done with Dr. Kim this past Monday; just got home today because my white blood cell count and temperature were elevated. But now all is well and I am feeling much better. I did a lot of walking in the hospital which I know helped me feel much better. I have 6 sites on my stomach which are closed with staples. The hospital I stayed at was very nice and the nurses and support staff were great. Had to get up and walk every 2 hours on the day of my surgery. This was a bit uncomfortable, but still manageable. Not too much pain or nausea. My advice to anyone having this procedure is to do what they tell you to do. The walking may hurt a bit, but you will be better off for doing it in the long run (and increase your walking a little bit each time). I'm glad to be home.
