well at least this time it took only two tries. I'm at 5.5 now. Hopfully this will do the trick. I just have to remember to go over the dietician's head and go straight to the surgery/fill coordinator when I need a fill.

Mac and cheese. It's the ultimate comfort food for me. I just read about an eatery in NY that specializes in mac and cheese. It's called S'MAC. You can have your mac and cheese 10 different ways. Yum.:hungry:

Rafael. You're most like the ArchAngel of Healing. You want people to shape up, and you nag. But you mean well, and you're well loved despite it. Or because of it. You bring the donuts even as you tell people to eat more veggies. Take this quiz! Quizilla | Join | Make a Quiz | More Quizzes | Grab Code

I want to be able to go river rafting, fall out of the boat, and not have my fellow rafters second guess about pulling me back in.

Being banded IS the easy way out!
aronoel619 replied to WASaBubbleButt's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I try to explain it like this to people who think I've taken the easy way out. "If you see someone drowning you throw the person a life preserver...you don't tell them that if they just learned how to swim right, they wouldn't be drowning right now. So just just leave me with my water wings while I learn how to swim." That usually puts them in their place. -
What's the worst thing someone said to you?
aronoel619 replied to annieM's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh that's such a knife through the heart. I've had that said to me all through the years. While not the meanest thing said to me it's definitely often asked of me..."Are you Hawaiian?" I just simply respond, "Sorry, I'm just a fat Filipino." I was telling a friend that I'm usually mistaken for being a Hawaiian, Guamanian, Samoan...and she stops me and says to me "Samoan? You're not that fat." So apparently I'm too fat to be Filipino, too skinny to be Samoan, but big enough to be Hawaiian. WTF?!!! Talk about being offensive three times over. -
So I'm back from my first fill. Oh what an experince. It took them five tries and three syringes to finally hit the port. It seems that my port seems to have moved a bit. so i'm at 3.5 cc.

"Fat" doesn't offend me, but "fatso" does. Oh the other "O" word. Yeah obese is depressing. I make fun of myself too. The first week post-op I was trying to explain the lap-band to some friends and I explained that the band divides the the stomach into two stomachs, one small, and one large. Then without thinking I said, "Ya I'm basically two stomachs away from being a cow."

Carlene: You forgot the Ass-roids (race of asses). They come in every color, shape, size, and creed. You can't recognize them until they open their mouth or cut you off on the freeway.

Wow!!! I knew I shouldn't have outed myself.Answer to question 1: no. It's regional. In the U.S. if you're talking about Asians, people will probably assume you're referring to people of East Asian, and South East Asian descent. In Europe they may add in a few more groups. As a British Indian friend once said to me, "I'm Asian, but you're Asian squared." She was trying to illustrate how she's considered Asian in England but not in the U.S., whereas anywhere I go outside of Asia I'll always be Asian. Answer to question 2: It's only insulting if it's intended to be insulting. Other than that I just chalk it up to being outdated. In college I tried to reclaim "Oriental" by using it to refer to Asian stereotypes and cliches. That experiment didn't last very long. My fellow Asian classmates weren't buying into it, and my non-Asian classmates and TA's were always trying to correct me. Asians who are offended by the term Oriental, are offended because of it's connotations. When I hear Oriental used to describe a people, the immediate images that pop up are dragon ladies, concubines, Suzie Wong and Charlie Chan, even if the speaker doesn't have those connotations attached to the term Oriental. I had a Korean roommate who identified herself as an Oriental, as she explained you're only Asian outside of Asia, but you can still be Oriental in or outside of Asia. She felt this was one way of keeping her identity as Korean from Korea. Outside of Asia and the Philippines I'm considered Asian and/or Filipino, but in the Philippines I'm "the American" or to be precise "the fat American who's charged double for a ride on a jeepney." I now hire a driver when I visit.

BubbleButt: It was taken as intended, because I'm smart like that...not because I'm Asian or Filipino, but because I'm a woman. :whoo:

Back to the topic of cruel kids. A couple of years ago I was subbing in a high school PE class for a month. Ya I know, what am I doing teaching a PE class? The PE teachers like me and I don't let the kids get away with anything. Well anyways one day (a mile day) one of the "mean" girls decided to make a fat crack about me very loudly to the whole class. As soon as the class quieted down I said to her, "Oh honey you're just looking at your future if you continue to not run the miles or play in the games, 'cause when I was your age...I was thinner than you." Needless to say she never made a crack like that to me, or to any of the kids she bullied in the school. I know I shouldn't have participated in public humiliation, but it was my last straw with her since parent phone calls and detention didn't seem to work.

As an Asian-American I'm only slightly offended by the word "oriental". For the most part people aren't using "oriental" as a pejorative, but I will correct people when "oriental" is used to describe Asian people. It's an archaic term like "negro" that isn't needed, besides I'd rather be reffered to as that "hot Asian chick". (I would've added smart too, but Asian just implies that. Ha ha ha...just being satirical.)

What did you feel when you awoke from surgery?
aronoel619 replied to luv2bingo07's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I remember the nurses helping me out of the wheelchair and onto a recliner. I could feel my legs and arms shaking violently. I heard one of the nurses say that I was cold, and they started layering warm sheets over my body and covering my head with warm sheets too. I also vomited from the nausea. I had the worst taste in my mouth, and my throat hurt. The first day of recovery was the worst, but I was up and walking about after three hours of sleeping, with 15 minute intervals of sipping 30 cc of water. -
Does your doctor's scale weigh you heavier than at home???
aronoel619 replied to Sunta's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My doctors scale weighs me 3-4 pounds less than my home scale. On the day of the surgery I was weighed twice. First on the hospital scale, and then on the surgeon's official scale. The hospital scale was 2 pounds over the "official" scale. -
Today is the first day of full liquids. Soup is so good. Yesterday was the only day I really felt how weak I was. I went to Target with my sister and I basically shuffled along, leaning on the cart. For the first few days I just didn't feel hungry, and I just couldn't take the broth (yuck). The only thing I was doing was keeping myself hydrated with water and sf popsicles. I feel revived today. Luckily I haven't had any use of the painkillers, and sleeping has been fine. My nausea was limited to the first few hours after surgery, and the gas has seemed to pass, and my incisions don't seem to be tender anymore. Weds. I have my checkup with Dr. Horgan.

I'm 4 days post-op and I'm doing well. I was a bit feeble for the first few days, and somehow I sprained my left thumb. Pain is not an issue, and the gas has subsided. Today has been my best day so far.:clap2:

So yesterday I was banded. Except for my immediate family there were only two other friends who knew that I was getting this done. So yesterday I'm placed in my bed and the curtain is pulled, and then I hear a familiar voice, "Hello Nora!" It's my aunt. I thought she had retired. She's a nurse in the surgery area. Since my sisters had to stay in the waiting room, it was nice to have family with me throughout the surgery. I had to start laughing when my aunt was going through the whole formality of asking if had any body piercings. If it was stranger asking I probably wouldn't have laughed, but just hearing that from aunt was funny.

I've been having little burps all day.
