    First Fill......I am freaked

People do have a hard time sometimes, but I don't think it is the norm. My fill was completely painless and no numbing agent was used at all. The only thing that hurt from my fill was pulling the bandaid off!!!!
  3. crzytchr

    Rejected again!

Other options pursued....did you ask what they meant by that? They may expect you to follow a dr followed diet program, or an exercise program that is documented. Call the insurance company and ask. It may not be the surgeon's office.

    Eating Frenzy!

During the 3 weeks from my first call to my surgeon's office until the day before my surgery, I ate anything and everything that didn't eat me first. I didn't eat too much of anything, but I didn't deny myself any food that I wanted. My last meal was the buffet at the Beau Rivage Casino in Biloxi!

    calorie intake

I think my first week of surgery I was lucky to hit 600 calories. From day 8 until day 21 I was at around 900 calories. I am almost 11 weeks post op now and I keep my calories in a range of 1000-1400 per day. I try to hit 1400 around 2 days a week to keep my metabolism up. I am still losing 2 lbs a week with only 1 fill of 1cc in my 11cc band. I will probably go for another fill in 3 or 4 weeks. I eat around a cup of food 3-4 times per day. I log my food each day on fitday.com to make sure I am staying in range.
  6. Bread, rice, Pasta, and lettuce are problematic for many people and tend to stick. You don't want that. I can eat whole wheat pasta, and whole wheat toast. I have not tried lettuce or rice at all. My friend gets sick any time she eats rice or bread. Another reason to not eat them is since we take in less amounts of food, we should eat more nutritious foods. That gets rid of the starches, and lettuce takes up space, but doesn't have enough calories to help. I would contact the doctor and explain that you need more nutrition. If he insists on you staying on liquids, definitely try to increase your liquid Protein drinks. I HATE them, but you may try the chocolate banana vivannos from starbucks. They are pretty good. Also, drinking skim milk can get your calorie count up and help you get more nutrition in. If you decide to move on to foods anyway, then be careful. I was fine, but I did follow the eating guidelines established during my first 4 weeks regarding the soft foods (used the processor for all meats). Also, I didn't make it clear in my earlier post. From day 8 on, I ate mushies like I listed in the post. Mostly the refried Beans and chicken and tuna salad.

    snacking

Geez, I am sorry. One thing that also helps me when I am low on calories for a day is drinking skim milk. I even like to have nonfat caramel mochas from Starbucks. I get them with sf caramel and 1/2 the pumps of mocha and no whip. They give me an extra 220 calories and and 17 g of protein. My daughter loves the banana chocolate vivannos from there. Tasty also and about 250 calories and 22g protein. Try something like that. They taste better than regular protein drinks:smile2: Good Luck!
  8. I agree with Fanny. Don't be pushed into a fill you don't need. My PA normally does a first fill of 3-4cc in an 11cc band. I asked for half of that and then only wound up with 1cc, because that is all I needed. I am eating a cup of food 3-4 times per day. I am satisfied, haven't been sick and losing around 2 lbs per week. Until I am hungry again, or not losing I am not going for another fill.
  9. Each doctor is different, but I should say do what your doctor said to avoid problems. That being said. . . my doctor allowed a test meal (scrambled egg) on day 8. If you can eat it and keep it down, you move on to mushies. I did it, and I am doing just fine. Around day 21 I began eating whatever I could chew to mush. I stay very careful and haven't been sick yet. When you do move on to foods, stay away from problematic foods like bread, rice, Pasta and lettuce. Once I started mushie foods, I ate scrambled eggs, refried Beans with cheddar and fat free sour cream, and I made tuna and chicken salad by putting the meat through the food processor.

Froggy, are you measuring and logging your food to make sure of your calorie intake? If not, please try doing that. I use fitday.com and many other people use dailyplate.com. I don't think being that low on calories is good. I eat 4 times a day about a cup of food each time. I try to keep my calories between 1000-1200 per day. I don't think it is healthy to have only 600 calories per day. Please check on that. I was banded a month before you, but I am still losing, just slowly: 1-2 lbs per week now. BUT, I am eating, not getting sick and I am enjoying eating. I will probably go for another fill in a month.
  11. I am sorry you went through that. I was fortunate. They gave me nausea medicine before and after surgery. My surgeon also sent me home with a prescription for anti-nausea medicine. I also hear everyone having a barium swallow test. I didn't have to do that before leaving the hospital and I am lucky for that also. THAT stuff make me heave BIG TIME! I almost didn't make it through my pre op test.:smile2:

Tell Me If This Makes Sense

I guess I kind of skipped that stage. I went to soft scrambled eggs, and chicken salad and tuna salad that I made by running the meat through the food processor. The carbs I ate during that stage were refried beans with cheddar and fat free sour cream.

New Whey Protein Bullets - INFO

If you have a GNC gold card they are $30 for a case of 12 during the bonus week.
  17. My friend was banded two weeks before me and she pbs about 3-4 times per week. She says she really doesn't have much of a warning. I've witnessed her running out the back door of her classroom. I eat a little slower than she does, and luckily it still hasn't happened to me. I hope it never does.

    UGI Series/How Long?

It took me longer than most, because I kept trying to throw the barium back up. I kept gagging. The staff were so wonderful and patient. Fortunately, I made it through it. It probably takes around 30-45 min. It was also a lot of rolling around. I found that a little awkward. Roll on your left side, lie on your stomach, roll back to your left side, roll onto your back... repeat this a bazillion times! Well, it actually was probably only about 4 times.
  19. I burp ALL THE TIME!!!! I sound like a man drinking beer. Geez!. As far as pbing, it is like vomiting without the stomach acid. Instead of acid there is extra saliva. My friend makes a loud noise like a duck when it happen. I am 10 weeks out and I haven't pbed yet (thankfully). Take small bites, chew well, and avoid food that are considered problematic and you can probably avoid it happening.

Lap Band Fills / Adjustment Info

NM, you really sound like you need a slight unfill. I don't think it is really the solids that gave you a problem, but that maybe you are too tight. My PA doesn't have restrictions after a fill and I had solids the morning after my fill and I haven't had a problem yet. That being said, I only got 1cc when she normally does 3-4 in an 11cc band. She put 2ccs in and I told her the water she gave me seemed to be taking too long to go down, so she took 1cc out. She wouldn't let me leave until she was certain I wasn't too tight. Please reconsider having some taken out. I don't like to think about you feeling like that.

    Manatee's turn for plastics

I am glad to hear you made it through relatively fine. I hope you take your pain meds to keep your pain in check. I can't wait until I get all my weight off so I can start planning my ps. But geez, I CAN wait for that pain. I hope you do well.

    Hey hey Hey!

I too, was very afraid of dying during surgery. I had never had surgery before. I really was terrified. It was almost morbid the preoccupation I had with dying the week prior to my surgery. Well, surgery was 10 weeks ago and I am happy to announce that, I AM ALIVE! It was a breeze. It doesn't last long, so you aren't even under the anesthesia that long. You will do fine.

    Hello

The one thing most people seem to have a lot of problems with is not drinking with their meals. Try to eat your food slowly and chew it thoroughly so you can start eating your meals without any liquids. This will help you with the transition.

If you eat too fast and food gets stuck, our bodies, in its infinite wisdom, makes extra saliva to try to "unstick" the food. If it can't unstick it, normally the extra saliva comes back up, sometimes with the food (pbing). It doesn't happen to everyone. I am 10 weeks out, and it hasn't happened yet, thankfully. My friend who was banded 2 weeks before me, has it 3-4 times per week. She also eats bigger bites and faster than me, though. Eat slowly, take small bites, and chew your food carefully and it may not happen. GOOD LUCK!

    newly banded need encouragement

Jillian, are you logging your food intake at fitday or dailyplate? At this point, you probably aren't consuming enough calories. If possible you may want to try to get it up a little. You have probably been under, maybe WAY under, 1000 calories for a couple of weeks. Sometimes making the adjustment to get between 1000-1200 calories per day is enough to start weight loss.
