I have failed my band - SUPPORT GROUP
crzytchr replied to Tabithan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Welcome to the group. I applaud you for realizing that you are too tight and knowing what needs to be done. Please find a doctor who will unfill you so you can heal, then GRADUALLY put your fills back in. You know what to do, but it seems the doctor you have isnt willing to listen to you. Have you thoroughly explained to him the food choices you are making because of the band being too tight? Please try. I hate to see people suffering because the tool they paid so much for is hurting them. You shouldnt have to feel like this. -

Thanks for asking. I get a little better everyday. I drove too much today, though. My hubby is working out of town and my daughter has a Mardi Gras ball tonight. So, this morning we had a hair appt, then she had to work, we had to go to the other house 30 miles east get the long gowns from our other house and then 40 miles back west to go downtown to the ball. I am exhausted! My secret is I can't eat as much right now. I was below 1000 calories for about a week, and I freaked. It is because the swelling from surgery had me a little more restricted than I like to be. It is loosening up now, though, and I am eating around 1100 calories. In a week I should be back up closer to 1500 and the weight loss will slow down, but I will feel better. -
Good luck with the fill. I probably should have only gotten .5 when I got my last fill.:grouphug:
-
My last fill, coupled with swelling from my hysterectomy, has me unable to eat as much food as before, so I supplement my food with drinks. I don't like protein drinks, but I do like skim milk. I either drink skim milk or get a Starbucks non-fat venti caramel mocha. I only have them put 2 pumps of mocha and 4 pumps of sugar free caramel. It has 220 calories and 17g of protein. Adding these, I can get up to around 1100 calories for now. It is not where I want to be, but it is close.

It probably is water weight. Was there extra salt in the foods you ate? Please don't stress over it. You can not physically gain almost a half a lb of fat if you only consumed 1200 calories. You burn more than that just breathing and walking around each day. Is it close to that TOM? -
Kinda Lost and Confused
crzytchr replied to MollyAnne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pbing isn't quite a unpleasant as throwing up, but it's not a barrel of fun either. You pb normally if you have food stuck (like in my case) or if you have overeaten. First your mouth begins to produce extra saliva to try to help the food go down, then if it doesn't go down, it comes back up. It isn't as bad as vomiting, because it doesn't contain stomach acid. It is just the food and normallly a bunch of saliva. -

I would go slowly so you don't get way too tight. Slider foods are foods that go through the band easily: chips, candy, Cookies, ice cream, etc. I understand you want restriction, but are you still hungry, or just not full? Personally, I am more restricted now than I have ever been, and I would rather not be. I am having to eat my meats much slower than I used to and I find it to be a big pain in the butt. If I don't eat slow enough, I pb. I NEVER did that prior to my last fill. -
I have always heard 1 -1 1/2 cups. I eat about that and am satisfied. Your doctor is correct, though, as long as you are losing weight, you are doing fine. Are you upset because you aren't actually FULL, or are you still hungry? I am not always what I would call full, but I am satisfied. I do not want to get to the point where I can only eat a few bites. My calorie count would be too low.

Does post surgery surgery always=unfill?
crzytchr replied to jack&kota's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just had my hysterectomy on December 22nd. I was told I didn't need an unfill by my band surgeon and my gynecologist. I wish I wouldn't have listened. I was too tight after surgery and just now, am almost back to normal. If your abdomen is sensitive to fills and if you had some restriction just from having the lap band placed (like me), then you should probably unfill. If you aren't that sensitive to getting fills anyway, then you may be fine. Go with your gut instict. -

Please take that with a grain of salt. That looks like a fitday graph. I use it too and love it. Problem is, it isn't always accurate with the breakdown. The other day I had kidney Beans. We cooked them here and I think home-cooked dry kidney beans showed up when i logged it as having 14g of fat (see below)! Ummmm, no, try 0g of fat. Also, the calories were too high. If anything looks a little off, look at the label of the item you are eating and enter it as a custom food. I have about 20 custom foods I entered that I eat on a regular basis. Kinda Lost and Confused
crzytchr replied to MollyAnne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First, big congratulations on reducing your meds! Your body is responding well to your weight loss. Please do not try to get to the point where you can only eat 1/4 cup of food at a time. I think 1 cup is more where they want us to to be once the post op diet is finished. What I hear many people say is they are told if you can eat a "whole" anything, then you don't have enough restriction. Journal your food and drink intake each day. You need to make sure the amount of calories you are consuming each day. Please do not go under 1000. I try to keep mine between 1200-1500 per day. Be conscious of what you are putting on your plate. Only put about half of what you think you are going to eat. Eat that slowly. If when you are finished you still aren't satisfied, then go back and get the other half. I find that most times I will eat what is on my plate. Old childhood habits die hard. Knowing that, I put what I think I should be eating on my plate. Since banding, I think I have returned for my extra "half" maybe 4 times. I really am satisfied with less. I may WANT more, but I am not really hungry for more. Head hunger is the hardest thing to overcome. It is a pain in the behind! If you aren't having to pay for each fill, I would SLOWLY have them to begin to add more. I am talking about no more than 1cc at a time. I have seen people who get too tight and it is really bad. My friend couldn't even swallow her own saliva. Being too tight is worse than being too loose. You begin to eat slider foods and actually may gain weight. Take it slow. Good Luck -
Please journal your calorie intake. If you are below 1000, you probably aren't eating enough. I know it is hard during mushies to get enough "good calories" in. At this stage I would try to make some homemade chicken salad. Make it in the food processor and it becomes "mushy". If you go too long with your calorie intake too low, your metabolism will slow down.

Thanks! I have more restriction because of swelling from my hysterectomy. I am SLOWLY beginning to eat a little more.

I can eat 3/4-1 cup of food per meal. The problem is I am now having problems eating chicken and turkey. I am now getting most of my Protein from skim milk (starbucks nonfat modified mochas) and Beans. It is slowly loosening a little bit. I just finished almost a whole egg and cheese sandwich, which I know I couldn't have eaten a week ago. I am just having problems getting my calories above 1000 and I don't like that. I will start adding some home-made skim milk, hot chocolate to bump up my calories until I can eat more. I like to stay between 1200-1500 per day. I don't want my metabolism to shut down on me. -
Donna, that is what it is all about. You enjoyed foods you normally had (just less of them) and DIDN'T GAIN ANY WEIGHT!!! Have you ever been able to say that for any holiday season before this? CONGRATULATIONS!

Good job G-Ma. There is soooo much I can't eat right now. I wish it were just at certain places. I think I may be at what ppl call the "sweet spot", but I don't like it. I would rather be able to eat a little more and a better variety. -
Fellow Butterflies, At the end of last week I hit a weight that would no longer qualify me for the surgery! My BMI is finally under 40!!!I am NO LONGER MORBIDLY OBESE!!! Just obese. Jeez, who would think someone could be THIS excited about being obese?!
