Shouldn't I have more energy?
crzytchr replied to als74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to remember to do that! Mostly they are really great kids, but I fear they feel a little abandoned. I had a hysterectomy and they are 4th graders, so I didn't tell them before the holidays. I thought I was going back after three weeks, so I would've only missed one week of school. Unfortunately, I was re-hospitalized 4 days post op due to an infection and was on IV antibiotics for 3 days. That kinda kicked me in the butt. Going back to a job at school so soon is probably why you are exhausted. Your body didn't have time to recover and it is kind of mad at you! It should forgive you in the next week or so. -
Shouldn't I have more energy?
crzytchr replied to als74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc doesn't like caffeine, I drink it anyway. I would not drink it, however, just to get more energy. I too suffered from the lack of energy, even though I was drinking coffee. It is just natural to be zapped after having surgery. I just had surgery again 5 weeks ago and I am exhausted after being up for 6 hours, I mean completely drained. I also hate feeling like this, and I have to return to my job teaching next week. Those kids are going to eat me alive! -
Why did they schedule my first fill 6 weeks after, the day I start full solids?
crzytchr replied to als74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would definitely call and see if you can start the solids the week before, or I hate to suggest it, but push the fill back another week. Once you start solids you may find, like I did, that already have some restriction and don't need the fill. And you definitely don't want a fill if you already have restriction. I am 6 months out and have only had 2 fills, each one only 1cc. -
You may not want to push a big fill, but if you do, please don't leave the office if you feel too tight.
-
I wasn't numbed before either one of my fills, and they were painless. The only suggestion I have is look at the ceiling. DO NOT look at the needle. I made that mistake before my second fill and it made me kind of anxious. It still didn't hurt, but I thought it was going to.

Banded tomorrow. Who else?
crzytchr replied to Makulafamy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had post-it note boobs after my surgery too!!! I am glad to hear you are doing well. Definitely hit that button before you get settled. Don't scrimp on the pain meds the first two days. You will need them. Don't forget about sending your drivers license with your boyfriend to the pharmacy when you get your pain meds filled. I think all pharmacies are required to have that now with all controlled drugs. Congratulations!! -

I have failed my band - SUPPORT GROUP
crzytchr replied to Tabithan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am sorry to hear about the problems you are having. Teenagers are hard to deal with. Hopefully she will wake up before she does herself more harm. -
I had surgery too, and the scale won't move any more. It has been 5 weeks and the scale stopped moving over 3 weeks ago. It is probably because I haven't been very mobile. I hope to get to the gym soon.

I didn't get hungry either and had problems getting enough in me also. That is why I would use the hot chocolate over the sf apple cider for now. Later, add the apple cider once you aren't struggling to get calories in. I also added skim milk to my creamy soups. Adding a little sage, garlic powder, and pepper to a cream of chicken soup is really tasty. It was so good, my teenage daughter took some to work for her lunch.
-
I have the sugar free apple cider. I bought it from WalMart. It is good to warm you up, but won't give you the protein or calcium that homemade hot chocolate will. It DOES, however, have 100% daily intake of vitamin C.
-
Once you are off of clear liquids you can have it. If they allow you skim milk, you can make this.
-
I make homemade hot chocolate with skim milk, Hershey's cocoa powder and splenda. It is yummy and my whole family drinks it. I also drink Starbucks Venti non-fat, caramel mochas, made with 2 pumps of mocha and 4 pumps sugar free caramel. 220 calories and 17 g Protein

Psych Eval tomorrow - what to expect?
crzytchr replied to dl2418's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think that they are going to re-weigh and send the new weight to the insurance company once everything is already submitted. If you are unsure, contact the surgeon's office to ask them. Approval shouldn't take THAT long once the psych eval is received. Your surgeon's office staff probably knows about how long each insurance company takes. They do this all the time. You should contact your surgeon's office and see what kind of preop diet is required. Many require 1-2 weeks of liquids sometimes with one low carb meal per day. I wouldn't start THAT yet, but reducing your carbs would help start the liver shrinking process and help you get adjusted to a new way of eating. Good Luck! -
Not at restriction, not losing and Having pain
crzytchr replied to MollyAnne's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It is frustrating to feel like this. I am 6 months out and have hit a plateau in the last 3 weeks. Prior to this, though, I lost about 2-3 lbs per week. I use fitday.com to journal my food. You may find that you aren't eating enough, or that you are eating more calories than you thought you were. Both can hurt your weight loss efforts. I don't know what your dr recommends, but I eat 1200-1500 calories per day. It has worked for me up until now. NOW, I need to exercise to jump start my weight loss again. As far as the pain goes, you need to see your dr about that. It may be gall bladder. -
Did anyone have restriction after 1st fill?
crzytchr replied to klutzyazhel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please trust your doc. When you move to regular food, you may find you aren't hungry any more. If you are, then yeah, get the fill. I have an aggressive doc, but I don't get the fills he normally gives (4ccs). I ask for half and even had half of that removed at my first fill. My friend was too tight and it was VERY unpleasant and painful for her. -
Help i need coffee!!
crzytchr replied to MrNewLife55's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Supposedly the caffeine can stimulate insulin production and increase hunger. My surgeon also has a strict no caffeine rule. I have a "it is my only vice so I'm gonna drink it" rule. I have had coffee from day 4 on. I even have a venti non-fat caramel mocha (2 pumps mocha, sf caramel) almost every day. Still, you should ask your doctor what he/she thinks, and ask why. -
Too Tight after two months???
crzytchr replied to destynee990's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It does sound like the stomach flu caused inflammation. Talk to your doctor, because it sounds like you should get an unfill until the swelling goes down. He/she will make sure to keep your best interests at heart. You are a success story and everyone loves that! Congratulations on the great work and I hope you feel better soon. Please update after you see the doctor. -
It just sounds like you need another fill. I read about people getting just small fills that make them too tight and others getting big fills that do almost nothing, then a week later BAM restriction. Our bands are a little fickle.

why only one pound a week?
crzytchr replied to marmar's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The weight should come off really fast at first. PLEASE don't restrict yourself to 800 calories, or if you do, make sure you eat at least 1200 every 3 days or so to keep your metabolism confused. You don't want your metabolism to shut down on you! Good Luck! When is your band date? -
It looks good now, but if you look it is just over 2 lbs per week average. So...if your weight doesn't fall off real rapidly, don't get discouraged. I see so many people complaining when they lose 2 lbs per week, but it adds up really fast. You are off to a good start, and just wait, you will be eating mushies before you know it!

I am back after having a baby - no restriction - cannot lost baby weight!
crzytchr replied to Connorsmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Looking at the positives...you have a baby, AND you still are below your starting weight. That is something to be celebrated. Also, I have heard your band can hold a little more than what it says for capacity, so MAYBE you can have a tiny fill. Also, have you tried doing the 5 day pouch test? It may help to get you started back. Surgical Weight Loss 5 Day Pouch Test -
Did anyone have restriction after 1st fill?
crzytchr replied to klutzyazhel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are doing a great job! You are losing a little more than 2 lbs per week, which is what is expected. You may not think it is a lot now, but if it continues, it adds up. I am 6 1/2 months out and have lost 67 lbs. That is about 10 lbs per month....exactly what you are doing now (you were banded 2 months and 1 week ago). So it may not seem like it, but it adds up to a great deal if you keep up the good work. Also, as you continue to get fills and finally reach restriction you won't feel like you are starving yourself. It may seem like I "diet" to people because I eat between 1200-1500 per day, but I don't think of it as a diet, because I don't feel hungry all of the time. It gets better, really it does. -
